  • Reviewed- DeLonghi HMP1500 Micathermic Flat Panel Space Heater.
    Pricing & availability - amzn.to/1cz5asE
    Another similar heater in case the Delonghi is not in stock: amzn.to/47LCU6C
    Use with this thermostat and you can even program it: amzn.to/38uDlqr
    This is the best space heater I have owned to date.
    Positives:
    -It's nearly silent and I slept much better with it in the bedroom than with my prior space heater, which used a fan to blow the hot air around. Each time that would kick in, it would wake me up. This one is very relaxing and nearly silent. It does hum a bit, but only when you are very close to it. From 4 feet away, I can hear nothing.
    -It does not dry the air out like my old ceramic based heater did. My eyes are noticeably not as dry now.
    -It is quite light in weight so it's easy to move from room to room if need be (oil-filled radiator heaters are very heavy in comparison).
    -It looks better than a radiator type heater.
    Negatives:
    -It does not have a remote control to turn it on/off. This can be alleviated by installing a separate AC remote control. Just make sure it's a heavy duty one.
    -The form factor seems a bit strange at first, but you get used to it quickly and it can easily be stowed away against a closet wall or under your bed after winter is over.
    The heater works well and once set, is able to maintain the temperature in my room quite nicely. I don't find that I need to fiddle with the controls once it's set to my liking, I only need to turn it on and off. Note too that when it is not actually heating and in standby, it draws less than 1 watt of power, which is nice. There's also a 'anti-freezing- mode that you can set where it will not kick in unless the temperature drops below 41 degrees F. This is useful for basements or rooms where there is piping that you don't want to freeze, yet don't need to keep as warm as room temperature.
    DeLonghi seems to have a good product here.

    I've had this heater in use every winter since 2014, still works well. I've since added in inline programmable thermostat which I really like: amzn.to/2H5rilU I can keep the room at different temperatures throughout the day and night. Still really liking this space heater! It heats up nearly instantly so you can often just turn it on for a few minutes to heat up a room quickly, without any waiting for the heat.

    I agree with this review completely, it is quite (almost silent) very safe, no smell (after the first burn off, but they warn you about that, and you just do a 2 hour run at first at full power, then it is fine), It is recommended that you plug it directly into the wall rather than an extension cord, but it will work with a heavy duty cord if you must. No remote control is a minor inconvenience, but it is so quiet and non-hot to the touch that you can have it almost by your bedside and just reach out from under the covers and adjust it during the night :-)

    Hey, no idea if you'll see this, but one thing I realized after getting this heater was that it was no "fan" or moving of air. So, I was thinking it might work even better if you put a small, battery powered fan next to it to circulate the air in the room and heat it up even faster. Any thoughts on this?

    • @phototristan
      @phototristan  2 роки тому +1

      That could certainly help move the hot air around the room faster but this heater is more radiant heating so it works fine without having to use a fan.

Appreciate any help.

    radiator is cheaper............... because the oil stays warmer. and longer warm inside.

    • @phototristan
      @phototristan  2 роки тому +3

      Nope. Physics tells us it takes the exact same amount of energy to produce a given amount of heat, no matter how that heat is produced. This is why there is no space heater that is any more efficient than other. An oil radiator heater may appear to be nicer in that it seems to retain the heat longer and may be quieter, etc.,, but it also takes much longer to get up to desired temperature whereas this mica panel heater puts out the full heat right away.

      The oil filled radiator type heater is what I use because of reliability and reduced power consumption. The manual dial controls seem to last forever unlike the digital parts that fail due to power spikes. I can't say if this new design is better, but I also had a bad experience with an advanced design baseboard heater that burns up components and is unreliable.

    • @phototristan
      @phototristan  7 років тому

      Those do not use less energy. Physics dictates that for a given amount of heat, it takes the same amount of electricity no matter the delivery mechanism. You might prefer that type of heater since it retains heat longer, but it also takes longer to deliver that heat and more energy initially to load the heat. If you heat the same room with an instant heater to the same temperature for the same amount of time, the energy usage will be the same.

      If you are looking at a "save money heater" that heats about 400 square feet like it is nothing and can heat with some time even 600 sq.ft. (some people claim even 800 sq ft or more) very efficiently then the ONLY one under $330, it being under $200 (on sale even as low as $140), is Lifesmart Large Room Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Burnished Oak Finish w/Remote (on amazon). I mentioned the above one specificly because some look the same, but they are different mechanically.. I know that one is the same model I own. The Edenpure coppersmart is good too, but hey (don't get the non copper smart. When you spend above $220, make sure it will last a few years before it dies). That is about $350. I own this. 2 of them. Just got an edenpure too, because it is smaller in footprint. I have this Mica too. It is not even close.. Hell not even 30% of the heating capabilities, but even a bit more on electric cost. The Lifesmart and edenpure would save you more money with a lot more desired heat. This is good for maybe an extra small to small room. It would be perfect for that. Medium sized room only if you are having it on all the time. Large room... Only if it is next to you. Or if you run it 100% 20/7 and have bulletproof insulation that is generally only present in million dollar houses or very old sturdy built houses and/or Apts...
