after playing through Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 64 on Switch recently, i have a new found respect for classic Doom. it holds up and is so fun. no friggin wonder people keep modding the crap out of it after all these years.
How is this not its own game? I love Doom mods, but this one is on a whole new level. I could've easily been okay buying it as its own release on the Build Engine or something. This is amazing. And as usual, great video. Never be sorry for talking about Blood too much.
While I've never played Doom, I'm always fascinated and amazed by the creativity and ingenuity of its community who continue to this day to turn out such interesting ideas and mods... or WADS to use the local dialect
A game that combines early 90's shooters, mods, and LucasArts adventure games...the Venn Diagram for amazing Scarfulhu content on this one is just a perfect circle! Fantastic video, dude. Definitely a great one to slip in between the big Monkey Island retrospectives.
"And then the point and click nation attacked" The Scarfulhu Story Spoiler warning aside I have a soft spot for pirate themed media and this looks like a blast already
Can you review Montezuma's Return at some point in the future? I grew up playing this game but I never managed to beat it. Seeing how good you are in Doom, you might have more luck than me ^^ Aside from that: great video!
... the Dynamite Launcher just make me swell with Swedish Pride. For you who did not know, dynamite was invented by a Swedish man named Alfred Nobel. They also have a science prize named after him. The more you know!
I thought he made the Nobel peace metal because he was horrified how Dynamite was using so he wanted to make something to better humanity not destroy it
What a wonderful concept for a mod! A wonderful collection of Retro FPS design like Blood with the fun, campy pirate flare of Monkey Island. Seeing the Rayman 2 assets in this made me very happy and the weapons and level design were a joy to see how far and creative Doom WADs can be. Late 90's PC games certainly fill me with a whimsical sense of nostalgia so this was certainly a fantastic, joyous watch. Delightful video, will certainly share with friends who are a fan of Doom ^W^
Im really happy to see you back. It felt like forever since the last one! Edit: i know its only been a month but jeez covid has fucked my sense of time
Ah Doom mods. A friend of mine played the Golden Souls 2 mod, and it was a rockin' good time! I personally never play mods b/c I like vanilla titles, but I might give these things a try.
The bottles probably are so sturdy because Grog is so acidic it can melt tin cups and iron prison bars, anything less sturdy would've already evaporated before you reached the bottles.
I wonder if this man will ever cover HDoom... YES SCARFHULU, THIS IS A CHALLENGE! BET YOU WON'T! I am kidding, love your videos, man. Keep up the great work.
Beat this total conversion before the review, and I had no idea that it took so much from Monkey’s Island! Guess that’s more of a reason for me to try out Monkey Island.
It pleases me how Doom fans have kept the game timeless through modding :) Nice in-depth review on a cool crossover mod! Admittedly, I've only beat Doom 1 and my knowledge of Monkey Island is that sweet main menu theme and "You fight like a cow!" but one day I'll get around to the special editions that have been sat in my Point'n'Click section for many a moon!
I just released a modified version of Pirate Doom to make it work on less powerful computers, to have less slowdowns in the more intensive areas. In this modification, I also added the Barrel Explosions visual effects from Brutal Doom to the barrels and to the dynamites, to spice things up a bit, know what I'm saying? I hope I didn't cross the line. But anyway, in the process of testing this modified version before uploading it to ModDB, I got so immersed in the gameplay of the levels in this mod that I ended up playing the entire game 3 times in a row back to back in the process of testing it. That's how good the levels in this freaking mod are. Amazing.
Pirate doom remains my favorite doom mod. I am tempted to make a recreation of monkey island itself and use pirate doom as the base so that it will become a kind of addon for pirate doom. I already have the scumm bar kitchen recreated with custom graphics.. some borrowed directly, some modified from original sources and some I recreated myself using screenshots as a reference. I would want to add much more rpg than what pirate doom has though.. like a kind of hybrid between rpg puzzles and fps action.
Man I love the doom wads I'm playing through hedon Castlevania doom mod the 8-Bit battle megaman do mod and I'm hoping the guy finishes that zombie ate my neighbours doom mod
Dude I played the ghost ship level, I have some type of aquaphobia, cuz I hated the feeling being in that level, i just wanted to finish and never play it again lmao 🤣 I seriously don't like the dark deep ocean. It's just a game but the audio really makes it immersive. 😵💫😵🥴 Edit, the wad is fun I love it.
I love, but kinda hate, super ambitious projects like this. Like, at some point, you've put in so much work, you might as well just make it an original IP that uses the GZDoom engine so you can release your own game, y'know? Ion Fury is a new game using the BUILD Engine, Wrath is a new game using the Quake engine - where are the modern indie games running on the Doom engine? On the one hand, you'd lose all the music and assets sourced from other titles, but on the other hand, you'd be throwing another _fantastic_ retro-style First Person Shooter out there in the marketplace, and that's never bad thing! Y'know, a legit pirate-themed FPS would be absolutely fantastic up there with titles like Amid Evil, Project Warlock, Ion Fury, DUSK or WRATH: Aeon of Ruin. There are NO pirate themed FPS' out there (afaik), so it's kind of a bummer that this awesome one is not an official production, I dunno. Still it really looks fantastic! Also, you're doing UA-cam full time now, Scarfy? Oh man, that's worth supporting! Gonna be adding you to my Patreon subs soon then, as I quite enjoy seeing you get out more than 2-4 vids a year and wanna make sure I do my part to keep this trend going :D
some of these Doom mods could be released as their own separate games using the Unity engine or such, and would sell in droves on Steam... I'm not sure if gzDoom allows for selling games, but one of the quirks of the GPL license is that you gotta release the source code if you ever sell the game... this entire concept of "open source" just makes me so sad, it's just a way of exploiting people... I mean, I love playing all these mods for free, but these people should have some financial compensation for all their effort they put in... I can't help but feeling a bit wary about open source in general
I appreciate that you mentioned that it's questionable to have enemies that are supposed to be natives, especially ones as stereotypical as these are. Many people wouldn't have even done that. However, I would have liked you to have more explicitly criticized it, and called for it to be removed. 13:21 "but, that's just how it is, I guess" is, to me, a sort of tacit acceptance which I don't think is something you (or I, for that matter), as a non-native, can give. I would have also liked it to be factored into the conclusion and final assessment of the mod, perhaps recommending skipping that level if possible. I'm not trying to say you're the same as the developer, and you did do good, but I think you could have done better.
"Cap'n, the gentleman's way of playing Pirate Doom."
OH this looks like it's using textures from Rayman 2 so it gets a 10/10 from Me
YES, I saw the Robo-Pirate skull in the stronghold and just beemed!
"You can't just blow a hole on the surface of Mars!"

Great video, I love your channel, one of my favourites!!
after playing through Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 64 on Switch recently, i have a new found respect for classic Doom. it holds up and is so fun. no friggin wonder people keep modding the crap out of it after all these years.
Oh I loved this. This is the WAD young me wanted to make, made half a level and then got distracted.
How is this not its own game? I love Doom mods, but this one is on a whole new level. I could've easily been okay buying it as its own release on the Build Engine or something. This is amazing. And as usual, great video. Never be sorry for talking about Blood too much.
Too many copyrighted assets.
It is its own game,
He may not upload consistently, but when Scarfhulu does upload I always love the videos. Even if I'm not that into Bionicle. 😂
Huh, the mask wearing native enemies are wearing the mask of Mudman from the World Heroes fighting game..how random.
While I've never played Doom, I'm always fascinated and amazed by the creativity and ingenuity of its community who continue to this day to turn out such interesting ideas and mods... or WADS to use the local dialect

7:24 That sign at the entrance says:
No Admittance
- Except Gun Owners
LMAO this mod is pure magic

I remember a Monkey Island 2 Crysis mod that looked pretty impressive, there was also Melee Island 3D map for Half Life
7:50 This mod gets bonus points for using a Grim Fandango song
I always love your videos about mods like this. Small, obscure things are really fun to learn about.
I love that your intro is the Gabriel knight score sound
At about 7:50, the song playing is a demake of the song “Domino’s Office” from Grim Fandango! Just thought that was neat
1:12 Robopirates logo from Rayman!
wonderful review. but goddang this made me thirsty for your second video about the monkey island saga xD
It's getting there! Hoping to have it out later this month.
That two-eyed Cacodemon made me very uncomfortable. It was the biggest freak in the freak show, that's for sure, lol.
Really cool video Scarfulu! The witch doctors looked like Dhalsim from Street Fighter
so happy to hear you can do this full time!!
The stuff people are able to do in Doom is astounding!
I can't play Doom so that's not for me to play, but it was still great to hear about and watch your vid. Such an amazing mod!
Funny, all I needed to see was "Doom×Monkey island" and somehow my brain processed it was you who would make this video, lmao
Love it :y
Ah Doom mods. A friend of mine played the Golden Souls 2 mod, and it was a rockin' good time! I personally never play mods b/c I like vanilla titles, but I might give these things a try.
It really is a testament to the quality of the Monkey Island series that people are still talking about it 😊
Really cool video about an awesome passion project I didn't even know existed
The bottles probably are so sturdy because Grog is so acidic it can melt tin cups and iron prison bars, anything less sturdy would've already evaporated before you reached the bottles.
the Doom mod vids are my faves. dang good stuff
I wonder if this man will ever cover HDoom... YES SCARFHULU, THIS IS A CHALLENGE! BET YOU WON'T! I am kidding, love your videos, man. Keep up the great work.
Scarfulhu! Talk about that Point & Click, Paradigm!
"I'd feel bad, but... I really don't! *smirk*"
This episode was just delightful! I even spotted a few Robot Pirate signs from Rayman 2 in Trezer Cove.
Incidentally, Pirate Doom is compatible with High Noon Drifter if you want to be a cowboy occultist pirate.
Thank you for this, I wasn’t aware of this doom mod so yeah definitely playing this on my channel soon. Love your work by the way !
This was really interesting. Wonderful video man :)
Beat this total conversion before the review, and I had no idea that it took so much from Monkey’s Island! Guess that’s more of a reason for me to try out Monkey Island.
When the worst levels of a game can still be considered decent by general video game standards - clearly, it is a monumentally good game.
Today's games fn suck
You could totally alter this game slightly to replace the copyright stuff and sell it, looks great!
It pleases me how Doom fans have kept the game timeless through modding :) Nice in-depth review on a cool crossover mod!

I didn’t miss this one, I’m just watching it again.
I love your stuff! I can't afford to pay anything, but I'm always here to support you with likes and watch times!! :3
Outstanding. I hope it runs in LZDoom
Oooooioh we are back to doom, wonderful, since i started follow you after the doom christmas special lmao

Great video Scarfulhu, keep up the great content.
The art for the circus level is the art of Rakdos Carnarium from Magic, the Gathering pixelated.
Very interesting video. I never thought Doom would have a pirate mod.
Honestly I'd love to see your thoughts on other Total Conversions like Golden Souls or the upcoming Treasure Tech Land!
Man I love the doom wads I'm playing through hedon Castlevania doom mod the 8-Bit battle megaman do mod and I'm hoping the guy finishes that zombie ate my neighbours doom mod
Defo want to give this one a try
And it's using Outlaws sprites too. Sweet
Look at this good boy making videos on a consistent basis!
Great video. Excellent pacing. I'd love if the narration audio was able to be more consistent between game shots and shots of the narrator.
That's something I'd like to improve at some point for sure.
Oh man, that tiny Highway to Hell inclusion put a smile on my damn face. c:
Epic content
So happy to see you back!
Had never heard of this one, cheers
Another wonderful video!
I so need to play this game.
UA-cam full time? Hmmmm, now THAT I can get behind. *Goes to Patreon* 😏
You were talking about alcohol then it immediately cut an Applebee's ad
13:17 I feel like that's definitely based on Dhalsim's sprite from Street Fighter 2.
Avast there landlubbers! There be aliens here.
The Shaman looks like a Street Fighter Character
15:29 I swear I heard a psychosomatic rimshot after you said that
I always enjoy your videos
Best scarfboi covers best Doom mod. Today is a good day.
Thank you for saying "the core combat itself feels immensely FLUID", and not "FLUENT". I don't know why, but it bugs me when people use the latter.
Love this mod
Welcome back!
We love you Scarfulhu
What are you, gay?
Two eyed Cacodemon really looks wrong.
Lots of Outlaws 1:35
just tell yourself they're cannibals
Dude I played the ghost ship level, I have some type of aquaphobia, cuz I hated the feeling being in that level, i just wanted to finish and never play it again lmao 🤣 I seriously don't like the dark deep ocean. It's just a game but the audio really makes it immersive. 😵💫😵🥴
Edit, the wad is fun I love it.
Going to clarify for all non-believers, the Tim Allen WAD is the greatest mod in human history and justifies all other fan mods.
Go scarfy!! Go scarfy!!
"they're good orbs"
Cavalcade Of Devilry
Love it!
*Clown music intensifies*
10:28 is that a bionicpig reference?
Pirate Doom was da shit!
Doom is life.
big like and a new subscriber! 🏆🏆🏆
7:25 The bionicle bar?
When I clicked this, I was literally expecting Gmanlives to start talking. I didn't even saw the uploader.
You can never have too many content creators talking about Doom WADs. Gmanlives, Gaming Pastime, Scarfulhu.
10:27 look for Typhon mod
Wait the WHAT?
PIRATES

Shrine 2 and Vomitoreum.
Let's be honest, High Noon Drifter makes it better
people who talk this kind of crap clearly did not play the maps in Pirate Doom... it's all about the maps and how intrincate they play
gotta leave to the anime-profile-pic people to be "friendly" and judgemental as hell... every time LOL

Never played monkey island. Seems like it's got alot of character though.
