I’m originally from Hawaii and yes the garlic shrimp 🦐 truck is awesome, the best ones to go to are on the north shore of Oahu in Kahuku near the old Kahuku sugar mill. 👀🤙🏽
Cooking tip: One of the chefs on America's Test Kitchen, when frying small items like shrimp, always places them in a spiral pattern starting at the pan handle. That way, when it is time to flip them, she can do it in the same order as when she placed them, so they all cook about the same amount of time.
You and Dude are the sweetest couple in the world! If we were neighbors I'd be over in no time with a cold six pack of Kona Longboard! That garlic shrimp, Wow!
I am also a lazy eater and choose to peel my shrimp first. I prefer the 16-20 count so less shrimp to peel and you get a great bite. I will have to try this. I usually prefer to use corn starch although I just found potato starch at the Asian market that I will try next time and I make a sweet Thai chili sauce to dip them in or pour over rice to eat with the shrimp much like what you just made. Welcome back.
I can totally relate to missing Hawaii, I was blessed with a trip to Kauai in 2018, I look forward to the day I get to go back. I am so excited to try this, I am getting up right now to pull my shrimp out of the freezer. Thank you sharing

I made this for dinner yesterday and it brought back memory of the same truck that offered this Hawaiian shrimp in Maui several years ago. I cooked the shrimp for 2 minutes and turned over. My family begged to have this dish again SOON! Thank you!! 😋😋
Looks very delicious , gave me the idea for dinner , thanks will missed seeing the pic of the trip , not on FB or instagram , glad you all enjoyed the trip , Happy Sunday ! And continued blessings 🙏
Awesome recipe! I see your point about about the shells- peeling garlic shrimp is quite messy- but the shells have so much flavor. I love peeling the shrimp and then sucking on the shell to get the wonderful flavors- then going in and eating the shrimp! 🍤 thanks for the recipe! 🌈 🏝 ☀️
I use the shells in seafood stock. Lazy eating is a first world problem. I work with young folks who won't eat wings, because there's bones. They only eat boneless skinless chicken breast. And boneless skinless fish
Oh my gosh what a blessing to have found your channel. This recipe is amazing. The spicy paprika touch is mouthwatering and so perfect. Thank you so much ❤
wow awesome thanks yall for posting this I especially dug the tip to remove the garlic butter so it will push home the intent without being burnt. Fabo award! -I am pawpaw
Hey Flo, I always end up coming to your recipes because they are the best! Thank you so much for sharing all of your wisdom and finesse on cooking for all of us to see. Also Dude is adorable. 😊
Hi Flo and Dude….glad to hear you had a fantastic Hawaiian vacation. I’ve never been but definitely on my bucket list. Thank you for bringing this dish and recipe to us. I’m going to try this….shrimp, butter & garlic…omg! 😊🇨🇦
Thank You Flo, I made it for dinner. It was a hit. Family said it was like the food trucks. I should have served it on a paper plate to make it authentic lol…
I really enjoyed seeing the content from your Hawaiian adventure! As far as peeling and deveing shrimp, since there are companies that do it for you, we are promoting those companies that had the vision to do so!!! I also buy the peeled garlic in the bag! Ain't no shame in my game! (Lol) I'm so thankful for those companies that do it for me! I will be making this recipe. Thank you Flo and Dude for taking the energy and effort to make these wonderful videos. Sincerely, Carla
Oh my gosh my mouth is watering! I love garlic shrimp and will make this dish probably this week! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. Aloha from Jeri in Battle Ground, Washington ❤️
Hello Flo Lum and your husband the food looks so delicious. I love shrimps , but I would call the prawns 🦐 yummy 😋💖🦋🌺🌈😘😊💖❤️from Edith in cairns Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
I would take uncooked shrimp shells and simmer them with butter to infuse more of the flavor into the butter. Restaurant technique I learned as a waiter when young.
Hi Flo, thanks so much for sharing this yummy shrimp recipe. Simple yet delicious. We are going to the North Shore, would you mind sharing places for food that you and your family enjoyed?
I tried it with the sweet rice flour. Meh. Is this what's used in Hawaii? I'll try it again with corn starch instead. Hoping for more crunch. Or maybe my technique needs work. I welcome suggestions. It's a great simple recipe that I want to try again. Love the channel and the teaching! Thank you for all I've learned.
Wow making this over the weekend thank you! I always make grilled garlic lime shrimp and air fried Lemon pepper shrimp and of course my Cuban shrimp Creole… BUT this looks amazing! Thx for the new recipe :)
Looks yummy! We are going to Oahu in October, can’t wait to finally try Giovanni’s Shrimp truck to see what all the hype is about! But for now, this will do. Gonna make this recipe today. Did you use unsalted butter or salted butter? Thanks for sharing your recipe love!❤️🙏🏽😋👩🏻🍳
@@FloLum thanks for answering back. Only missing the garlic, so tomorrow I may just go get some to make this yummy dish. Oh, I almost forgot, did Dude get his fill of Spam on vacation?
Ok, it’s NOT lazy eaters, it’s lazy cooks! No, really, they would have to charge more for peeled shrimps. I refuse to order unpeeled shrimps in a restaurant because I get so dirty getting them out. I do it at home, no problem! I cook my garlic shrimp in a pan on the grill, but haven’t seen addition of rice flour and paprika before. I can’t wait to try this - it looks so good! TFS.
Mahalo for highlighting the salt! You hear so much about Himalayan sea salt but the alaea clay that gives the Hawaiian salt it's red color is not talked about. Did you bring back any other Hawaii ingredients for your pantry?
I used to make this when my husband was alive...OMG...we could not get it in our mouths fast enough! Sure miss my eating buddy....My recipe called for miron (sp)...
Despite the spelling it's pronounced, Alaea = Ah Lye salt 🧂. It's actually sun dried ocean water mixed with red mineral soil, hence the pink tinge. It's not used as often as some other salts because it can be expensive.
Now I need to know if you have a great recipe for Hawaiian mac salad. I had one years ago but I cannot find it! Hubby lived in Hawaii as a kid and I like making him the occasional "plate lunch" for dinner. This shrimp recipe is perfect.
Looks amazing. One part that confuses me is when you removed the garlic to keep it from burning which totally makes sense, but I thought you’d clean out the pan after that. It looks like the pan still had some garlic bits left over. Wouldn’t that garlic burn?
Thank you Flo ! Looks great! I can not wait to try this ; also, additionally, I want to add pineapple , red pepper & possibly onion to the garlic ,Maybe .I have a sweet sour tooth .lol.
I personally prefer to leave the shells on because the meat gets steamed and thus remains tender. I also suck the juice in between the shell and meat before peeling them. Finally, dipping the meat into the gravy at the bottom of the plate is a must.
Clarifying that shrimp should be cooked for 1-2 minutes per side. They should NEVER be cooked for 22 minutes!
😆 thanks for clarifying I cooked it for 15mins per side but it still turned out delicious 😋 thank you so much for sharing the recipe
Dont burn garlic just burn shrimp 😂 thanks for clarifying
I caught that as well. I’m sure Flo meant 1-2 minutes. 😜
Lol thanks, I’m like wait 22 or 1-2 😆
Thank you for clarifying. I rewinded 3x but was certain what I heard was wrong.😂

Glad to be home but already missing Hawaii… Especially the food, like garlic shrimp at the food trucks! Happy Sunday! 💕
Hello my dear friend happy Sunday 💐🤲💞💞 plz my channel subscribe 🙏
You are my old gold friend ❤️
did you say 22 min. each side? That seems excessive. Please confirm on the garlic shrimp
@@debbino4249 She actually said, "1 to 2 minutes on each side"
I said 1-2 mins! 22 mins would be beyond disastrous!

I lived on Oahu for 5 1/2 years. One of my favorite things to eat was garlic French Fries. I’m sure you would love those too.
Hello guys. Garlic shrimp and steam rice makes a good combo. I can just taste it. Thanks again and stay safe.
Really LOVE you guys!!! I do all of your recipes!!!! Blessings to you & yours!!
This recipe looks WONDERFUL!! I will definitely be making this garlic shrimp in my household.
Nice tan, Flo! Glad you got to taste some local grinds. "Sucking" on the shells may be messy, but it's the best part! and adds to the ambience!

That shrimp looked amazing!! I was actually trying to help Dude bite into it! Sounds like you had a fantastic trip…YAY!! Happy Sunday! Sharon🤗
