    What is some place near where you live that you have always wanted to go but never have?

    Great experience. I grew up in MA (unfortunately) but myself and 2 other friends ended up unemployed in the early 90's, one of us lived on the water in buzzards bay and had a boat so we bought 20 traps and lobstered all season. Let me tell you we got really sick of lobster, we ended up walking into places near Wareham Ma that were locally owned with 5 gallon buckets full of lobster and asking the owner if he wanted to trade the bucket for beers and steaks or whatever else they served and we were never turned away, we did OK on minimal unemployment checks, fishing and hunting. Have you ever heard of the New Bridge Cafe in Chelsea MA? Best marinade for steak tips ever, equal parts cranberry juice, Heinz Chili Sauce, Italian dressing and Coke A Cola. In other parts of the country Tri-Tip is the cut you want to make steak tips. Now to figure out with these fuel prices if we can make it from AZ to Maine this year. I think I saw you guys for a minute at the Grand Design National this year in Elkhart.

      Sounds like some amazing memories were made in those years lobstering! And we haven't heard of New Bridge Cafe. Sounds delicious! Hope you guys are able to make it to Maine! And we were at the National Rally last summer! Wish we could have said hi! Thank you for watching!

    Hi guys, it’s me again! Lol we have so many parallels, here’s another based off this episode: back in 2006 I bought a 43’ Beneteau sailboat and I sailed from San Francisco Bay through the Panama Canal and docked it in Saint Augustine.
    My son is a chef and he went to the Atlantic Culinary Institute in Dover, New Hampshire. He went out and worked on Lobster boats often.
    Jess, I’ve never had lobster, so I don’t know if I like them, but I do love a good steak!
    Now to put some perspective to this, my kids (yes, I still call them kids) are y’all’s ages, my son is 41, my daughter is 37.

    My most memorable Maine trip included a trip on a workboat with "Bill" the marine scientist and cold water diver. Our destination was Machias Seal Island*, home of the Puffins when they' re not at sea. You sit in blinds like duck hunters, except with cameras. The Puffins forget you're there and walk right up to the blind.
    When we returned to Eastport, the dock we left was now 20' over our heads! Bay of Fundy, baby!!! Priceless!
    * Right on the Canadian/US border eight miles offshore.

      Sounds like one incredible adventure! We would love to go check out the puffins!

    Nice fun episode , hope Lily has gotten her license , by the weather I'm guessing this was last summer . It doesn't seem like that long ago I was teaching my daughter how to drive my jeep that was a manual shift , now I have two granddaughters and the youngest is 7 . One thing I learned when teaching the clutch is to use low range , much easier on all the parts involved including my neck . LOL ease out the clutch don't pop it , pops clutch . haha
    Funny it took that long for you to do that Corey , I grew up in San Diego so never had that particular option but I have done deep sea fishing in San Diego in my early teens and then later south into Mexico plus I've been out on a dive boat a few times at the Cortez Banks scuba diving for lobster over 80 miles off shore (my roommates and I had a lobster fest those weekends) , those were all great times I will always remember . I love that you guys get to make those kinds of memories with your girls , I always tried to make a point of doing something unique anytime I was on vacation with my kids , even though I was in aerospace work I did get out every year for at least a week or two .

      Thanks for watching! Lil was actually getting her permit. The state of Maine has very strict driving laws. $700 course with 30 hours in class and 10 hours of instructor driving just to get your permit. Then she has to have 70 hours of driving with us before she can apply to take her license test. This was end of August, beginning of September last year. Just a few more episodes and we will be in Season 7 down here in Florida! Glad you were able to have some great fishing with you buddies! Being on the water is always a good time!

    It's pretty much the expectation when you say you're from Maine that people expect you to love lobster. They always seem so disappointed when I have to say I'm allergic to shellfish!! I do like the looks of that steak though!! :) Looks like the boat was fun! My hubby has missed Maine not having a shrimp season for the last several years terribly!

    Being a fellow Mainer now transplanted to Texas, it's always great to see you both back 'home'. No matter how far we travel, we always feel like we're coming 'home' when we cross the bridge in Portsmouth back into Maine. Being from South Portland the scenes of Commercial St and Portland made me homesick - but we are fortunate in that we spend every summer at Higgins Beach in Scarborough. We travel across country in our Montana fifth wheel in June and don't head back to Texas until after Labor Day. The scenes of Portland Head Light, Casco Bay etc fantastic can't wait until June! Love you both!

      So awesome! Higgins is one of our favorite spots! My parents rented a house there every summer for vacation and Jess and I went there all through high school and walked the beach in our dress and tux the night of our wedding. It is a very special place for us. Glad you know it so well! 😃 The world gets smaller and smaller the more we travel! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment!

    Went their when I was about 12 on a trip w family from NYC to Maine. it was really cool once we left NYC 🤣😂 I don't eat lobster still 30+ years later 🤮 ...I forgot the name of the famous restaurant on the shore but my father had to pay for a full lobster meal so I could bring McDonald's in for me to eat 😂🤣😅...my sister cracked a lobster 🦞 and it sprayed all over my French Fries cheese burger and ruined a very expensive happy meal 😂🤣😅 everyone was laughing and joking about it but I knew they all wanted my Fries 🍟 seemed so terrible but always fun to tell... think it was probably summer of 1984 or 85... I remember the statue of Liberty 🗽 was being repaired that year and closed 😪...my favorite part of the trip was staying in the bed and breakfast on the point and walking the shore and seeing all the tide pools...hope to make it back someday without the lobster juice this time though 😀 😉...always enjoy your videos 📹 thanks for all the effort and time ⏲.

      What a great memory! You were probably at my other buddies restaurant, The Lobster Shack at Two Lights(if you ever see us stay at a lakehouse while in Maine, it’s his) You might have been at the Black Point Inn in Scarborough. I am truly sorry for the loss of the fries 😔

I've seen all but about 6 of your videos and always waiting for what's next...I struggled alot with my memories and it is really amazing to have memories come back because someone like you takes people back to a place they enjoyed...the inspiration to see them again and all the other places is truly a blessing...I don't like typing much but I want people to know when they make a unimaginable difference for many people who don't or can't comment or travel...I actually give people advice and tips for rvs now because of your videos and I don't even own one lol... always wishing you and family and friends the best of luck ❤and thanks...

    Love Lobster, although I've never had it in Maine. Lots of butter needed. I've been on Shrimp boats down here which is probably not as smelly since we don't need bait to catch the shrimp, but you do have to be wary of the Crab that might sneak up on you and take a bite of you.

We had friends that had a fish market and they sold live crab and lobster. I used to go help deliver the cooked ones to people up there where they lived. Not sure where they got the crabs or lobster. The fish cane from Michigan I think and other states. You all looked like you had fun in the boat.

    There's the newly married couple! Sweet, both sets of parents together with y'all for an awesome get together, and meal. Curious....did your parents know one another before you started to date?
    Fresh seafood from the ocean is the only way to go! I die when I go to a grocery store here in Oklahoma, and you smell the fish as you walk into the store, and the fresh fish is in the back of the store. OMG....old fish!!!! I'm afraid to be sick from fish that's ready to turn. Just can't eat it!! Now if you go fishing in a lake here in Oklahoma the fish are just fine. What can I say....spent many years in Florida, and time in Boston, San Francisco, and Japan. Where we would eat the best fresh seafood all the time.
    How long will y'all be home?

    THAT was interesting to this old Texas boy. I wish you had the time to go slower and explain the process a little better. Why different colored claw thingy's? What were you measuring with that little tool? I didn't quite understand the "clipping" of the lobster and how you identify the "breeders". I'm not a big lobster fan, either, but the trip and process would be something I could do. Great episode, guys. Congratulations to Miss Lilly for getting her license. Thanks for a good time.

    • @FindingOurSomeday
      @FindingOurSomeday  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching! It is always a tough balance sharing the process but keeping a video moving so it doesn't get boring for people! The different colors were just the bands that they had on the boat. No distinction at all between them. The lobsters that had the hundreds of black eggs on them are called breeders and a lobsterman has to put a notch in the tail fin to label them so they aren't caught by other lobsterman. So if they catch a lobster that is big enough but is notched, they have to throw it back. The tool they were using was to measure the body part of the shell. If it is smaller than the length of the tool, they have to throw it back, but if it is bigger, than they can keep it. Hope that helps! Thanks for being here with us!

    • @FindingOurSomeday
      @FindingOurSomeday  2 роки тому

      No, I still fly over the water all the time. The west coast dip was totally my fault since I turned off all of the sensors to fly faster and took my eyes off it for just a second! 😂

    For awhile there when you were saying "Mainers," I couldn't for the life of me figure out what you were saying - LOL! I never thought about it before what people from Maine call themselves! I thought you were saying "Maynard" and couldn't figure out why you kept calling each other that! Haha!

    Ya why is New England the only place to get steak tips? My favorite. I use to do the Lobsters at home (New Hampshire) and it was so messy and then I discovered Market Basket will do them for you, that is winning. In 2019 we did a "Lobster Roll Patrol" and we had lobster rolls all over to see whose was best and then I did them at home and mine were the best actually. LOL I would rather have shrimp or haddock but will eat lobster.
