10:35 "If I freeze take and then duck" This is a phrase I never thought I would ever hear on a chess stream.
If duck chess can have duckmate and spell chess can have freeze mate, winning normal chess must surely be called chessmate.
That's just when you play with Australians

That logic would only work if spell chess had spell mate. Since it's "freeze mate", it's clear that the term has to do with the method of mate, not the name of the game. In normal chess, mate is delivered through check, hence "checkmate".
That's actually how it is in German. Chess and Check are both "Schach" following that Checkmate is Schachmatt is Chessmate

Something I always hope to see with variants like this is longer time controls, feels like the time scrambles always start when things are just getting interesting.

I like the duck making it more defensive while the spells make it more offensive.
When I was younger, we played a variant that was normal chess, but you can take your own pieces. It sounds dumb, but there are surprise tricky situations and sacs that you don't see in other games. 😅
Something kind of funny about this is that Spell Chess kind of devalues the Knight since it can't benefit from the Jump spell but Duck Chess kind of overvalues the Knight since it can't be blocked by the Duck (except on the space where it would land). I'm not sure how valuable the Knight is in this mode but it's interesting to think about.
Knights are better in the endgame I guess, xD since you run out of jumps, but not out of ducks

I like how this has nearly 2500 possible moves per turn now which is even higher than the most complex of board games

at 14:37 you could've played Qh4 and duck g3. Opponent has no spells and is forced to move the duck and his king so you jump and win the queen.
What about responding with duck f4 or g4 to prevent the Queen from jumping?
Cant play G4 because of the Checkmate threat. They could play Kd1 and duck G4 though, which seems to work.

I think after Qh4 duck g3, white can play Kf1 and duck c6. Then if you take with the queen with the pawn or the jump you lose to bishop takes king because the jump recharged.

15:03 Eric Rosen almost hanged his queen if his opponent’s jump spell is ready because this really would be the accidental Botez Gambit Accepted, is his opponent’s jump spell is ready and if they know to jump take the queen and block with the duck.
Opponent was too unlucky for being 1 away from almost getting a free queen.
I saw the four player duck spell chess pop up at the end. I'd love to see that.

At 18:57 I think the opponent could have played freeze d7 Qd7 duck f1 and if I'm not mistaken you can't counter-freeze the queen because she is in the middle of the freeze box! You can only counter-freeze centred on squares that aren't frozen.

U could’ve maybe jumped the rook over your knight to next to your king to save it in the first game. This is so complex tho, super fun games!
This looks like a really nice variant. I feel like in duck chess the sliding pieces are too weak because the duck can very effectively neutralize them, but the jump spell makes them powerful again.
Now this with atomic there will be so many different mates LOL.
This is all way too complex for me, but at 6:26 I was curious about Bb5. You're threatening to either jump over the pawn with your bishop to take the king, or to jump over your own pawn with your rook to take the queen. So basically you're winning their queen. Maybe there's a way to stop it, I wouldn't be surprised with all the different spells.

On your timestamp it's Blacks turn, so it doesn't make sense, and if you are talking about the previous turn, you would lose immediately because you hang the king

you should do a duck spell chess series where you challenge other streamers in duck chess, then spell chess then duck spell chess and see if they can keep up😂
Curious if bishop-knight balance is restored by the jump spell, compared with ordinary duck chess.
14:49, Qh4 and Duck g3 I think it was winning, because you guarantee nothing will be blocking the diagonal on the king on your turn, and you are simultaneosly threatning to take the queen on D4. Forking both King and queen by jump spells and White is forced to move the king and lose the queen.
What you can learn by that is that the duck is a interesting thing to use in combination with the jump spell If the opponent jump spells is in cool down, by forking 2 jumpable pieces and blocking one of them toa void they blocking with the duck on your turn, although this only works if there is only 1 blockable square, in this case it was G3. I think Eric accidentally made a smart knight sacrifice trap, but didn't manage to correctly follow up. This is an incredibly specific tatical theme.

At 11:00, I think he could have frozen the queen, Be3 (threatening to jump the pawn to take the queen), and d@c7.
At 17min, I think Queen takes Knight on g2, duck f1 would have been strong. It'd force white to freeze to stop the queen, but then Eric has his queen in close and move it point blank and freeze the king from escaping, while opponent has no way to use the duck or jump to take Eric's queen. I think forcing your opponent to freeze when you don't have to counter freeze is really strong. Unfortunately, Eric quickly discarded any idea of the knight capture early on.
This variant feels like atomic chess where you can just lose immediately if you don't know theory.

This is surely a variations that are more fun and very good for the future of chess for non competetive players and people that only want to enjoy chess loving this
Trouble is with this, I can just about calculate enough to have a decent sense of what’s going on in one of the variants, but combine them together and I’m so clueless!

So many tricky moves. On move 6 I think the black queen could jump over the pawn to take the rook and block the white queen with the duck for example…
And on move 7 I think Eric could have taken the queen with his queen, freezing the knight and blocking the rook with a duck!

Now just add Pocket Knight to this, then you basically have a game where... You can place a single Knight anywhere on board on an empty square once per game, you can jump or freeze, once every few turns, and are forced to move the Duck every turn, all while playing your standard game of Chess!
Would have been OP if you could freeze the duck for a move.
