This information was EXCELLENT. I spent a few hours trying to get my Sienna programmed before seeing this and nothing worked. I am an engineer and computer analyst and became very frustrated finding various bits of info in the owners manual, on the HOMELINK website and nothing worked. Thanks to this video showing how to hold the remote BEHIND the HomeLink array I was able to program it in 5 minutes.

I bought my Chevy Avalanche new in October 2004 and never got my HomeLink to work. I could never get past syncronizing the remote to the HomeLink as indicated in all the instructions, other UA-cam videos and working with HomeLink technical service. This worked perfectly! The code is tweaked just enought that after teaching homelink you need to re-learn the code on the door opener itself. Genius! Thanks a million!

Great info here. I too have found that the Homelink can be picky when it comes to training. The reason it doesn't work right away is you have a rolling code opener. This means that every time you push the button, the remote sends a brand new security code. By doing step 1, you tell the Homelink what code type and frequency to transmit, and creates it's own code similar to your remote by seeing what type of signal your remote sends. It then sends it's own signal on the frequency used by your remote, and Step 2 trains your opener to recognize the Homelink signal.
Awesome ! I've had my truck since 03, and never had it programmed. I did have to do the "learn function" on the door motor itself. Working great! THANKS !

Yes, the newer "Genie" Garage-Door-Opener-Units have rolling-code-remotes and require programming the Homelink in the car first, then setting the opener to learn mode and pressing the Homelink buttons in the car again, as you showed. My problem was finding the right place to hold the remote transmitter for the Homelink in the car to learn it. After that... it was a snap! Thanks again!

The instructions worked perfectly on my 2002 Camry and a Chamberlain garage door opener. On the Camry positioning the remote inside the open sun-glass compartment achieved the same effect as in the video. It is worthwhile noting that the instruction manual for my Chrysler has the same instructions (I don't have the Toyota manual!). But the Chrysler instructions lacked, of course, the important part regarding positioning of the remote during the training period. The training of the garage door opener in the last step has something to do with how the rolling codes are implemented in the garage door opener.
Well presented video, all the potential problems covered with video illustration too - excellent. And the icing on the cake: Jeep GC in the garage! I had a 5.9 ZJ for 15 years that was the bee's knees...miss it terribly, but life moves on 😩

Thank you! That first step for me wasn't working on the grand caravan, but worked fine with the bmw and subaru. Guess the remote needs to be a lot closer to the receiver. Once the homelink is paired with the remote, you need to press the "learn" button on your opener motor, then press & hold the homelink button for two seconds & release, three times. then the opener itself will accept the homelink signal
TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!! I WILL TRY THE LEARN BOTTON AS SOON AS I GET BACK HOME, BECAUSE MY SIENNA DID'T WANT TO PROGRAM BY PUSHING THE HOMELINK BOTTON AND REMOTE AT THE SAME TIME. THANKS FOR THE INFO.

By putting it as close as possible to the button it worked (I opened up the little container for sunglasses and put it right next to it). I'd been beating my head against the dash for some time.

Works like a dream. Watch all the way through. It's the last part that worked for me. If you already have a code programmed try the last part first.
