Between Behringer and Arturia, in the last year I purchased the Beatstep Pro, Keystep, Neutron and Model D. These two companies are apparently listening to their customers. I am in my late 60's but always wanted a Modular system. When researching modules the prices were way above my means. I was experimenting with VCV(great for learning) but it wasn't the same as having a real system.Enter Behringer and Arturia. Semi is better then none. Now I'm waiting for the Eurorack Go and Behringers Modules.

Good job giving us a little rundown of some possibilities with this combo. I've been messing around with some semi-generative stuff in modular lately and this video is really making me wonder about how the Keystep could fit into that, either as an element of stability to the overall patch or feeding its random arp into the patch flow, maybe making a whole randomized arp sequence of chords to get a little of both worlds. Super exciting to consider!

This is a fantastic exploration of both devices. The Neutron has caught my eye in the past, and seeing/hearing it used along with the Keystep has put the nail in the coffin! Speaking of Coffins - your sequencing during the last quarter of the video sounds like something straight out of a horror film. Very menacing! Also, I LOVE the bucket brigade delay in the Neutron - this will sound fantastic paired up with some reverb alongside the Behringer Model D (another great piece by Behringer, who have been hitting it out of the park!). Thanks so much for this video! Alamo all the way!!

I love learning about the key features in this video & the way the patch sequencing is showcased- nice frequencies! Behringer creates yet another neat, logical music device with a beautiful design that matches the sound, vividly capturing wave patterns. :)
Arturia's Keystep fits right in & blends nicely. This pair clearly goes hand in hand.
Simply Lovely. Thank You for sharing this video with us. Shoutout to San Antonio!

Thank you thank you thank you thank you! My gratitude for this video, much like the possibilities on this rig, is endless. I have been enjoying my Neutron for a couple of weeks now, but have to save up to get the Keystep. There's a reason why it was ubiquitous at the synth expo I attended recently! This vid confirmed that I'm making the right choice to wait till I can afford it. As a newbie to synths and sound design, I really appreciated the way you walked us through the flow on the neutron and really displayed its power as you changed the settings. I can't thank you enough for also explaining the basics so well - how the Neutron and Keystep talk to each other, how to set up a sequence, and that patch to work with the mod strip! I can't wait to be able to use all of these techniques in my music making. (Would be over the moon to have a second Neutron so I could have a slower drone on that one and mess around with sequences on the other one!)

The Neutron is already so versatile and able to generate a huge variety of sounds just on its own as a semi-modular eurorack addition, but adding the key step really gives the Neutron a powerful performance quality. With this performance quality one could bring the neutron into any environment and find a way to enhance the sound of any kind of ensemble (except something like a string quartet of course). Behringer really blew it out of the park with this little synth, even without the patch bay it has so much sound-shaping potential and with the patch bay it becomes completely customizable to any individual performer's needs especially with the arpeggiator and sequencer. Absolutely love it!

I wasn't sure why I kept seeing Neutrons and Keysteps together in videos but now I get it. The Keystep is ridiculous, especially at that price point. I'm particularly interested in seeing what the possibilities are with the CV outs. My personal inclination is to patch it so that the mod strip controls the oscillator shapes.

I think the Neutron might be one of the best value synths ever made.
When you combine it with the Keystep - the closest thing to a perfect midi controller on the market, it’s a match made in heaven. I think that the Neutron is a great way to learn synthesis, dive in to semi modular, and along with the Keystep you’ll be sequencing and arpeggiating your way to music in no time. Naturally, I think they’re a perfect pair!

The top two loves of my life are food and music. I am relatively new to music production, however, I’ve been playing music for over 15 years of my life, and I’ve worked food and beverage as a chef for over 7 years. When I started learning music production, one thing that stood out to me are the similarities between culinary arts and music production. Everyone has their own style of creating (whether it be food, or music, or anything else that is creative) and people also become very specific about what they want and when they find something they like they never let it go (I have some knives that are over $200, but I still use the old trusty chef knife that cost me $60 daily). Whether you are operating your 9-5 or experimenting, something that will cross all sorts of barriers to allow to freely move throughout various cuisines (or genres) is a must! The Behringer's Neutron and Arturia's Keystep are definitely two pieces of hardware that can fill that gap in people’s hearts.
To continue my culinary example, certain “flavors” bring up memories or moods. What do you think of when you smell oregano? I bet you it’s Italian, however, did you know that oregano is present in so much of Latin cuisine? A good chef can blend flavors that you might not initially expect to go together, yet through experience and experimentation, they find new ways to merge flavors and cuisines to create something unique, yet familiar. Likewise, the sounds that Behringer's Neutron and Arturia's Keystep make are immediately attached to electronic music. However, they can be used for so much more! For example, Max Ritcher’s recomposition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons includes a lot of music engineering that can be accomplished through a very similar setup.
When a chef is looking for a new product to add to their tool kit, they look for something that will not only add but expand their current capabilities. I think that the adaptability of Behringer's Neutron and Arturia's Keystep would create a space where you can explore and move through various genres with ease and for the price point, it’s hard to beat.

I've been eyeing up the Neutron for awhile now. I've taken a big interest in keys and synths since I've gotten into the London music scene. The Moog Mother-32 was a focus for most of the time, but this deal takes the cake. These amazing instruments are both powerful and versitile. They are capable of interacting with multiple instruments at once, via midi or CV.
The Nuetron is packed with 2 (3340) analog oscillators that can be played paraphonically Overdrive, Delay, and a digital LFO, 2 Pole filter, for synth sounds as heafty as you'd like. It's enormous 56 patch bay allows you to connect a CV step sequencer and reroute signals for more paramater control endless flavorful possibilities.
The keystep is a fantastic controller, if not one of the best ever made. It's way more than just a keyboard sequencer. It's mighty capabilities include live step sequencing and editing, arppegiation, and melodic feautures such as "Chord Mode". You can do so many things and make soo many beautiful, squelchy, tonal, ambiet, sounds with just this powerful, extremely versitile combo that I could talk about all day!

The Neutron can tame the Trogotonic 679 and make it keyboard playable, even the envelopes work if you patch it right and dial in the Trog. This alone justifies it. The Neutron is also a great sounding machine in its own right. A keyed version with four oscillators and keys/sequencer/polyphony would be a dream machine.

I am Neut; you can twist me, turn me, plug me, patch me. Saw me in half; send pulses to my body. Feel free to cut me off if I get too jarring. I've many shapes, many widths. Flavors abound for you to experience.
I am Keys; I'm with Neut. I control Neut like no other. I tell him to stop, to start, to speed up, to slow down.
Together, we form a beautiful triangle, with YOU being the third point of connection.

I have these as my main mono synth. I also have a Crave. These three together is a blockbuster. You can send the sequnce out to the Crave on one MIDI channel, then switch MIDI channels and play the Neutron on the keys without interfereing with the sequence,. The Arturia is a great keyboard for the Behringer synths.

Hey man... Do you have any channels or resources you can suggest? I have an arturia keystep and a korg sq-1 step sequencer and i been trying to figure out how to setup midi channels to do what you are saying.

Could you use the Neutron as a midi-toCV converter to play notes on a Eurorack oscillator if you don't have a Eurorack VCA or ADSR module? Would be a huge bang-for-buck if you can, with the added bonus of an additional synth!

Can you change individual note lengths in the Keysteps sequencer?

Dang!!! I have had my eyes on the neutron for a while now and it looks like the Arturia keyboard really helps unleash all of its power. I mostly use soft synths in my techno productions under the name billywyldestyle but I have a serious craving to create something dark and beautiful with these fat analog vibes.

Woah! Check out this mutha loving gorgeous synth we have right here! And, and what’s this ... is that the best step sequencer ever created? Two greats sounding like they were made for each other. That’s love at first sight If I’ve ever seen it! And now I can’t look away! Is this wrong? Oh, sweet oscillator!!! The patches! Good lord, those patches!! I... I shouldn’t. Please forgive me, UA-cam synth tutorials, but I found the love of my life. Just don’t tell my wife. 😉

Is there a way to tune BPM more precisely on Keystep, or is it strictly tap-for-tempo?

What a magnificent combo with many possibilities! If I acquired this I might just have to sequence a phone CV to my pal Jimmy Neutron so he can modulate some VCOs and invent a cure for sawtooth decay. Eventually though I’d want control of the synth back and I’d tell him I am bored because there is a cutoff for how long I can self-oscillate. Then we would sweep through the motions and say our goodbyes. He would say “Bye!” and I would say “Oscillator Jimmy!”

Probably not the best combo evveerrr, but it is super dynamic and gives you a ton of options. Plus, the price point doesn’t make you weep...

I have my Keystep plugged into my Neutron and both connected to Ableton. Am only getting sounds from the Keystep though, nothing from the Neutron. Any ideas where I am going wrong? Driving me mad

Behringer is a German name and means someone from two places, and the Neutron being classified as a Baryon (which is also classified as a fermion) that have a half-integer spin; I think the Behringer Neutron model name is clever being that there are 2 VCO's and 56 patch points. A sine wave that comes from two places or more.
