What you have to understand in terms of price. The known German dull basic models start at these prices, then to get to this kit level, adding a sporty variant you'll add over 10K easily. Too add I've owned both 3008 and latest 2008 in 1.2, petrol, found it to be more than enough for town, rural and motorway driving. Never thought I'd but another Peugeot after my 205 gti, yhe created so much junk following, the latest model line up shows they've massively improved, check how many you see on our roads 😉
In 2019 the 508 redesign launched at 29k EUR for the base trim. Current price for a 2023 version starts at 36k. That's already absurd enough, but what exactly justifies this car starting at 40k? The EV version might be more interesting, very curious about what they set the price on that.
Pricing is a non-issue for those who have cash. And, out of 1 million folks, 338,724 have that money. Result in case of Peugeot / Stellantis: $18 bn in profits in 2022. Margin 13%, the highest of the industry. So, yeah, I am sure this 408 too will find its way to happy customers
Nice looking car - thank God for things that aren't SUVs. Pity Peugeot are persisting with the toy wheel that few, if any, praise though (just learn to live with it as you say) and have my concerns over the 1.2 engine, though that extends to most downsized engines in my book. €40k to start though - wtf? :) What will the BEV cost? Prices gone doolally
Engine size is Completely irrelevant It's not an indication of Horsepower nor Torque I have this Engine 1.2L and is quite punchy even at low reves duo to 170ft of Torque if you were to take it on Autobhan you could cruise at 130 Mph, Toyota Corolla 2.0L don't even reach such speeds
@@niceboy60 it's more durability that I was concerned with. I know that some improvements have been made in recent years but there were, for example, certainly some serious potential issues with the wet belt system. Similar issues exist (ed) with Ford EcoBoost engines too. Not just Peugeot. I don't have an issue with the performance of said engines at all. I remain impressed with that aspect of them.
@@pandabat2000 I m aware of the Wetbelt issues however I don't think this new versions will have any That was previous Puretech Engines the Material of time belt changed , the Oil has changed, more viscosity = Less Friction Engine operates at extremely low RPM around 1800 RPM even at Motorway speeds . It might not be the Engine For Towing and having Roofbox on the Roof however for commuting and Traveling it's smooth and powerful I have an Extended Warranty even if something was to happen it would be for the Dealer to sort it 🤷
I think it's far too expensive for what it is and I'm sorry but a 1.2 3 cylinder turbo isn't enough in a car like that, of course it's going to be thirsty on fuel and as for the plug in hybrid again far too expensive for what it is, these are supposed to be family cars and there's not many families will be able to afford one of these at that price especially when the full electric version comes out and that's before you try and insure it. I'm sorry but I like the look of it but it not going to entice me out of my diesel Renault Kadjar.
Passed one today. What a beautiful and distinctive looking car.

Nice looking car but that rear bumper spoils the look, should have been colour coded.
Needs a hybrid model......non PHEV as the 1.2 is not enough and the PHEV way too dear
