Great review. Thank you! I've sampled probably 80 Single Malts over the past few years, and this Highland Park 12 year old is my favorite relatively inexpensive Scotch. Anyone who knows me can go ahead and call me a "Highland Park Ho." I'm a Highland Park Ho. Cheers!
Great review fellows. I just randomly bought this from my local liquor store and surprised my whole construction crew with it on Friday. Everyone absolutely loved the taste. Excellent whiskey. Cheers.
Just bought this as my first real step into the whiskey world being an avid rum drinker for the past few years. Glad to see it’s not as bad as some people are saying. lloniannau!
Like the new livery on the H.P. 12 year, as well as the Viking tie in theme. Both promote the brand through interesting packging. Now to hasten on to the juice contained inside that lovely bottle.
My favorite scotch, yet I keep buying other brands just to compare to. Then 6 or 7 bottles later I buy another HP and wonder why even try if I have found one of my favorites it is most likely FOMO fear of missing out!!
Great whiskey! Hate when sobs say it is only for beginers. I enjoy this scotch just as much as I do some of my 14, 16 and 18 year old whiskies. This house is fantastic.
Thank you Horst for another great video. Can you or one of your viewers comment on the whiskey glass with a lip that you were useing in this tasting and where they can be purchased? Also what is that beautiful wood veneer used in rhe cabinets behind you?....Cheers
Love the new bottle, really nice design. Plus, the price dropped 10$ around here so can't say I'm unhappy about all of this :) And our bottling is 43% too
I wish you had compared the two bottles and checked the percentage. The newer one I got last year is only 40% and doesn't have the same flavour profile. The smooth chocolate taste is gone and the rest of the flavour has only appeared now I'm halfway through the bottle. I don't know when they changed it but it's not the same as it was.
Awesome videos man. Love your review. I have the old Highland park 12 and I loved it. Now I saw a bottle of this Viking edition and it was only 26 EUR !!! I think i`m gonna get a bottle tomorrow :D
Recently discovered the HP 10yr which I was sipping while watching this, a very smooth and silky whisky that does not feel like a 10yr old and has a delicious taste that make me pour more and more. I will definitely be exploring more of the HP brand.
We get it in Canada at 43%. I bought this based on positive reviews from you and others. I have to say that I get none of what you're describing on the nose and pallet. I find the entire thing muted, restrained. Flavors seem rationed and anything but complex. Quite disappointing. Fortunately it wasn't a huge financial outlay, so I won't have any regrets giving my nearly full bottle away.
What do guys think, i have a botle of the Highland Park 12 Viking Honour at home, should i drink this with or without water? And how do you people like to drink the Highland Park 12 Viking Honour?
Go try it HN...I think its a slight step below the older version. Impossible to tell without HP12 in the old bottle...my whiskybrain memory is not of professional grade.
@@Arturo-sm1tb , Appreciate your opinion. Anyway, safe money and move on to try something better, richer, higher %ABV. There are plenty of scotch choices.
I’m new to the Scotch game (started May 2020 - thanks Covid). I’ve had a few so far: Macallan 12, Glenfiddich 12, Lagavulin 16, all of the Johnnie Walkers. Highland Park 12 is my latest and favorite so far. It will always have a place in my bar. What do you guys recommend next? I was thinking Ardbeg, maybe.
Only considering scotch, you might want to try Talisker or Oban. I hear Ardbeg is similar to Talsiker, but I'm not sure as I haven't tried Ardbeg yet myself. I am also part of the new additions from the pandemic. 😅
Talisker definitely. I bought the Talisker 18 (very hard to find) and it is my special occasion only Scotch. Tal has a greater peaty flavor than HP, but not offensive at all. Go for it!
That's the peat. It adds a smokeyness. It's there on purpose. I personally love that smell and flavor, but some hate it. I also love latakia tobacco that has that same smell and taste.
The new HP 12 tastes in line with the old HP 10. The new Viking Honor release seems to be rushed in comparison to the older bottling. The sherry casks they are using today don't seem to be up to the same standard. Likely due to the increased demand. Still a great whisky.
I’ve heard people say this is different from the old bottling, I don’t get that at all. I’m convinced they are either lying and have not had both or were drunk while trying to review it. I’ve had both and the are identical. Got a brand new bottle waiting at home...cheers.
Really? Ouch. I guess you must try more....no way HP12 can compare with the likes of Glendronach 12, Glen Elgin 12, Ben Riach 12, Balvenie 12 Triple cask, etc. Sorry but HP12 is just mediocre
Brought my old man a bottle of this for his bday and enjoyed a sip with him, Smokey and sweet ..its very good actually so good I brought my own bottle.
Just bought few bottles of this today as heard great things. Got in waitrose on a deal for 25 pound a bottle on a deal. And wow sipping first glass right now. Wow absolutely beautiful
Horst I taste something different in the new viking whisky, it has lost something and after drinking Highland 12 for 5 years as my favourite I have decided not to buy this new one,,,lost something.
After having another dram of the 43% Viking Honour version today, I am convinced something is different with my whisky compared to the 40% version Horst and Ben are tasting... I now believe most of the online reviews are correct. Its not like the old HP12- at all. Really nice nose, good start, but its thin and sharp and cuts out on the finish with no transitional balance. Not any HP I remember. Tasted against 2 different HP 18s (Battle Hill and HP)...of course its not as complex as the 18, but at least the old HP12 had some of the same characteristics as one would expect. The new 12 Viking Honour has none. If it was a blind tasting, would never guess Highland Park. This is a different HP12 whisky here in America to the one these guys are drinking.. It is no longer a great dram IMHO.
Worst Scotch I have had, really horrible. Burn, cheap taste and more burn. I have had whiskeys I don't like but understood it's just my taste preferences, this is just bad.
You know it's good when Horst does that little laugh after he sips. If he stays serious, it's not good lol.
@Archer Garrett
Gay 😂
Lol ive noticed that too!
I like affordable scotch because it is meant to be enjoyed, and Highland Park 12 ranks quite highly with me regardless of price.
Great review. Thank you!

I fond it VERY enjoyable as well!
I too am a sucker for Highland Park. Such balanced Whiskies. They tick all the boxes for me overall.
Being from Detroit.... I dont think you want to be known as a "highland park ho" lol
Me too.
Highland Park 18 is my favourite whisky and I bought many many bottles whisky.
I’ve been a bourbon man for years and have recently been trying to delve into scotch. These videos are very helpful. Thank you for making these.
I've been doing the exact opposite. Enjoying every sip.
The best all around malt for me. Excellent value.
Highland Park is my absolute favorite.
its Orkney whisky
Same here and Ive tried about every whisky out there. HP 12 as a every day drinker and HP 18 for special occasions.
@@nicholasmartin1881 Glengoyne 12, tried too? Easy and pleasant.
@@piotrszula yes had glengoyne 12. Very nice stuff.

Lovely whisky. Compliments a cigar nicely 👌
I am having one at the moment and it is bumped up to 43% now, it is a very nice scotch for the price. Cheers.
Like the new livery on the H.P. 12 year, as well as the Viking tie in theme. Both promote the brand through interesting packging. Now to hasten on to the juice contained inside that lovely bottle.
The H P 12 is 43% in PA, USA. One of my fav. Price was on sale for $48 for 750 ml in 2/2020. 😎
I scored it for $35 at Total Wine!
I have only had the newer bottle. It's 43% on the other side of the pond. I enjoy it, very good.
For the money, an excellent dram, always a staple whiskey in my cupboard. Thanks for the reviews.
It's so good it makes me want to staple myself inside of my cupboard 😈
There is a bar in Aberdeen called the Grill. I first had this there and is my go to daily, love it. Great review.
My favorite scotch, yet I keep buying other brands just to compare to. Then 6 or 7 bottles later I buy another HP and wonder why even try if I have found one of my favorites it is most likely FOMO fear of missing out!!

One of the few 40% abv whiskies I will buy,as I do like the flavours!Aberlour 10 and Jura 10 are other two!!!
Try a Bunahabahain but I would advise you to avoid the sherry cask matured version.
And both the Highland park and the Aberlour used to be bottled at higher percentages and tasted better.
Love the new bottle, really nice design. Plus, the price dropped 10$ around here so can't say I'm unhappy about all of this :) And our bottling is 43% too

Opened and tasted MY first Highland Park! OH....very nice and enjoyable. Such a pleasant flavor and I simply love the light smoky finish. A+++ Cheers!
What camera did you film with that only let you get 50 fps instead of the usual 60?

You should try it neat without water and with a whisky nosing glass.
My bottle of Glenrothes Select Reserve which I bought in 2017 already has a screwed cork so it is not a new development! But again, a great video!
For the money I have yet to find a better dram. Really great stuff!
You should try putting yourself inside a dram
The New one has lighter color. Does it has the same Quality content result ?.
Go try it HN...I think its a slight step below the older version. Impossible to tell without HP12 in the old bottle...my whiskybrain memory is not of professional grade.

I have tested it, and its no hint of vanillia, only dry fruit , honney and corn. But no vanilla is in the mix.

Agree with your review, this is delicious scotch at good value.
I bought a bottle today for $60 USD!
How does it compare to Glenfidich 12?
What’s going on with my man Ben’s hair here ?
Is this 12 years old? Is that apart of the name? What's with the 12 years old?
