I’m fairly new to the Scotch world being primarily a rye and bourbon guy but Highland Park is my favorite Scotch distillery so far. I like that they are unique in several different ways and the Viking lineage and motif is just the coolest!
Excellent tour of and information about my personal favorite, the lightly peated HP. This is the best video I have seen on this distillery. Thanks Ben!
Great distillery tour, Ben! Some of the older Highland Park 18-year-old bottlings are among the finest whisky I've ever tasted; they can make some truly extraordinary spirit up there in Kirkwall.
Long story short, I went ahead first into Islay malts with Laphroaig. Decided that was too much. I then tried Talisker, smoky but with a lower ppm level of smoke but still, not my dram. I tried Highland Park and it was goldilocks, just the right amount of peat smoke for my palate. I ventured out and tried the 18, but it was sensory overload and I couldn't pick up the nuances, but 12 is my all time favorite! Long live Highland Park!
Thanks for the detailed tour and the interview, lot of interesting data! Will try to get the 15, I think already saw it at an online store over here, the 21 will take almost my monthly income I guess, so must start a piggy bank for it. Greetings from Colombia!
I never knew Highland Park was natural color. I’ll give them a try now - Just wondering if I should start with the 12 year or skip right to the 15 year.
Highland Park could be so much better if they routinely bottled at 46% non chill filtered instead of dumbing down their own product. If they did this they would almost certainly be one of the top five distilleries in Scotland. Instead, they are nowhere near.
As a cask strength rye fan I agree! I recently got to try a Highland Park 15 just released for the Florida market at cask strength and it was the best Scotch I’ve ever tasted!
Highland Park has been releasing an annual cask strength bottling over the past few years. They just released their fifth batch. The cask strength tends to run 63-64% and is non chill-filtered.
Christ. Relax. Neither Ben nor myself would be so rude about your own videos. (I could be) Are you jealous because their channel has 98k subscribers and your is nowhere near that?

I love the fine balance the light peat gives. Besides I have given the malt some turns with the showel myself on my last visit. Skål from Norway
Great video! Thanks for posting and all the work that went into this.

Nice beard but you keep saying “ya” every other word. It’s very distracting and annoying.

Then why don't you fly out and do an onsite video yourself?
This man is obviously speaking English as not his primary language, give him a break Karen.
Hey !!, leave Ben alone, his videos are superb and informative.
Goddamn. We Americans are such negatively judgemental assholes. Does it fucking matter at all?
Awesome
