In defence of CLA-3A's good name, it was modeled on an earlier unit with a different opto cell. The UAD one seems to have been modeled on a later version that had the T4 (hence the smoother action). I love it on keys, bass, vocals - everything the Waves version sucks at. The CLA-3A is irreplaceable to me on guitars though (especially on distorted guitars). Nothing quite adds that attack and character.
Yeah for sure, I definitely have uses for cla3a too it just wasn’t it for me in this case. One of my friends always makes jokes about some of the cla plugins too, so that definitely influenced my reaction a bit. And yes! CLA-3a on guitars is amazing, can’t go wrong there
