Don’t know this dude or this channel but have been jamming on the ultra stuff for the last handful of years and guessing I finally consumed all the other ultra content. It is W-I-L-D that he did this on that little training. The elevation to distance ratio is pretty gnarly. Can’t skip long runs, can’t skip downhill training (eccentric loading). Elevation is a mofo after a while. Great video dude and congrats. Most of us need to do more hard stuff and when you complete something that you actually thought was out of your capability, it truly changes you. Hope some of y’all get inspired by this and take the plunge.
Love this video from you man, i've realized as I've gotten older and my life has gotten more "kushy" that I have to keep introducing new challenges or I fall into a terrible rut. Doing hard, physical things is the single most effective way I've found to live a happier life.

Cody please.... PLEASE run more races, talk about gear, and training, and whatever else. As a runner and a fan, this video and hearing you talk about your experience just elevated your whole vibe to the next level. Thank you for this
Honestly, hearing him talk about the last leg made me really emotional. It must be such a powerful feeling to know you've overcome what might feel like the shittiest moments. I've never been a sporty person but he's right this is actually inspiring. And him talking about the lows helps me look forward realistically to challenging myself.
It's so freakin cool to see popular content creators shine their spotlight on ultrarunning. It's an amazing sport that has given so much to so many people. When I was 16 I was smoking weed everyday and was extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. I was 300 lbs and just walking was so uncomfortable. I started getting into shape and saw several movies about ultrarunning but wrote that off as something for the elite. I just wanted to be able to run a 5k. Over the next 10 years I learned a ton about diet, exercise, and how to be happy. Now, I'm 26 and I just finished my first 100 mile mountain race last weekend in 22 hours and 31 minutes. I'm not posting this to brag. Hopefully, people see Cody's video, and this comment, and content similar and realize ANYONE can do AMAZING things. And the gratification and fulfillment that can be achieved through it is UNREAL. There is so much love and personal growth and just all around awesome shit that comes from running any distance, but especially in ultras. Thank you for making this video, Cody. I don’t ever comment, but Cody this was so inspirational. Seriously, next time I’m on a long distance run or ruck I’m going to think about this video and push myself even if I feel like slowing down! Keep up the great content man!
Hey brother, as former army, always remember the mind gives up way sooner than the body does. Also, give yourself credit for making it through those rucks and runs, I don't know if it's changed now but I remember them being paced; there was no stopping and resting or walking.

Literally same. I used to run 6+ a day when I ran track and XC, but when COVID hit I just fell out of habit. I got into weightlifting back in March and have been going strong with that, but I think it’s time for me to start running again. The feeling that comes from achieving goals and crossing the finish line, nothing can compare to it. You got this, and I’ll see you at the finish line!
@@tbarber742 i just started xc about a month ago after quitting softball (HUGE CHANGE) but this really inspired me to keep working hard. the first time I started running long distance I just felt like shit because there are kids running 6 miles faster than I could run 3 and I just felt like I wasn’t getting any better. coaches assured me they saw improvement but it was almost like i wasn’t good enough for my own standards and i got to a point where i couldn’t push myself enough to get to my own standards. running seems so simple but there’s so much going on in your head. our first race is saturday at mt sac and i am just now starting to feel ready.
PLEASE talk about training, how to get into this world. This spoke to me as someone who plays/played sports growing up and wants to try this but doesn't know where to start! And you make it funny! You finished strong, bro! 12/10
i believe most people start months in advance and start with short distances and build up to the marathon distance they want to do and they eat pretty healthy too to keep in shape
Just follow a plan loosely to start and build up a base. Because you can’t go from zero to a marathon. If you want to do a half-marathon, it doesn’t require as much training as you would expect to finish it, just follow a 12-week plan. Runnersworld has free plans available.

Cody literally does fucking everything! Like he said lately he has been in a funk ig you could say but he’s always been like extremely smart and athletic not to mention very entrepreneurial. Like he’s just successful at whatever he tries it’s annoying lol
Between stuff like this, Noel's videos about kart racing, and a lot of other content creators who usually just do reactionary "goof" type videos showing off cool niche talented stuff like this, I hope more and more people branch out and start showing their more inspiring habits and goals just like this. This was a fantastic video, from someone who has run and hiked before and never really trained to do more than like a little for cardio, I couldn't believe the dedication and effort this took, and I hope you share more of this in the future, it really is amazing to see and hear about.
Its so amazing that Cody Ko was one of the rare few creators that was able to both become very successful and yet still stay humble. Fame changes people but Cody has stayed pretty much the same. Respect
Based on Cody's explanation of why he chose to do this: It seems like Cody worked really hard to be successful but didn't find life as fulfilling as he'd imagined, so he got a bit complacent, unhealthy, and drank too much. It looks to me like Cody is figuring out what is important in life, what makes him happy, and most of all what motivates him to be something better than the worst version of himself. Whether I'm right or not, it is nice to see him trying harder at things and seeming less subtly depressed.
This was so inspiring. I feel motivated to do something physical now and get out of this rut I have been feeling as well. Thanks Cody and congrats on completing the marathon.
I think one of my favorite parts in this video is the wholesome support system around Cody. The reassurance when he reached the second aid station just makes me happy makes me smile. I live in JT and videos like this make me realize I don’t take in the beauty that the world travels hundreds of miles to see even though it’s literally in my backyard.

Cody complaining about Brisk Iced tea is so relatable. It’s so relatable. And you never hear anybody complain about how much doing shit like this sucks. I’ve been running and stuff lately and it does absolutely blow sometimes. Nobody ever talks about that. Why can’t we acknowledge that it sucks whilst still pushing ourselves to do it?
as a runner, this is so inspiring. don’t know how you did an ultra after such little time training, with such a high elevation gain-it’s truly incredible man. i hope you keep running and find joy in it, it’s so powerful to realize what you’re capable of and to share that with others.
I hope this gets a lot of views because I loved it. I feel inspired to start working out again and be healthier in everything I do. I’m happy you branched out with your videos and am happy to see the positive changes you’ve made recently.
I remember a few videos ago you talked about picking running back up and about how taking on challenges made you feel a lot more capable and okay - long story short, I realized I hadn't been pushing myself, and just coasting, really struggling mentally and been getting pretty miserable. Later that week I signed back up at my jiu jitsu gym and got consistent training 4-5 days a week. Its made a huge difference in every area of my life. Thanks for sharing your journey, it really helped me. It inspired me and more importantly gave me the motivation to actually follow through and make a change. 💜

This is insane, absolutely amazing how you just went for it and followed through even though you knew you were in a slump. I always find it so incredible that people can do things like this. I'm disabled and I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user- when you talk about the "tree leaning" and how exhausted you have to be to get there, I can't make it 5 minutes to the end of my neighborhood without being that tired and completely taken over by pain. Like, limping, crying, don't know if I can make it home pain. That sounds so dramatic but it's true. Whenever I watch something like this I think "I should try running maybe I'd be better" and then I remember that not running isn't the issue lol But it's just so inspiring to see someone go "you know what, it'll push my limits, but let's go" "honestly, I was fucking pissed and sometimes I failed, but I did it". Like that makes me rethink other things. It doesn't have to be an ultra marathon, but maybe I can clean those dishes. I'm gonna be pissed off and it's gonna be painful, but it'll feel good when they're done. That probably sounds so stupid lol Anyways I loved this video and it was really inspiring!!!
the story of how you were previously struggling and letting go and managed to pick back up and achieve something like this is crazy inspiring, man It makes me not wanna give up at anything and to think youve inspired hundreds of thousands of people to feel that way too, massive fuckin props also that terrain is insane Im still shocked on you powering through that
That’s so cool, congrats! I did a 6mile hike in the mountains of Greece this past summer and it was *really tough* , but what Cody said is true. Once you do it, you feel like you can do anything.
Dude you made me get my ass up and go to the gym just now. Wanted to go in ages and couldn’t motivate myself. My goal is to some Sport every day again now. Incredibly happy that you actually did it! Super impressive!
Man, with the following you have you could literally have such an important impact on a very large group a people and videos like these are a huge step in that direction. You can do anything and I’ll watch but this type of content should definitely make a reappearance. Very well done
I literally just climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland, seeing this video and how he described the elevation and descent is literally what I went through, downhill was so painful. Lots of respect for this, although my hike wasn’t a run and it wasn’t 10 hours, I’m incredibly proud of my 8 hours.
I summited mt St. Helens earlier this summer and experienced the same thing. The snow and the elevation was absolutely killer. Glissading down was incredibly fun though
This is inspiring. I have been that same person a times, who hears about a difficult challenge and reflexively responds, "that's not happening". It's not just fitness for me. In high school, I had a dream of learning higher mathematics and becoming an expert in something. Life got in the way and decided it was no possible for me to pursue. But recently I said screw it-- if I want to learn math, no one is stopping me. After all, I am privileged to live in a time and place where information is practically free. So I picked up the most interesting textbook I could find at my local thrift store and the other day I started working through it. It's only 120 pages, but it is incredibly dense and seems impossible for me to understand. On the first day I made it through a page and a half. But I have decided to study this book for a little bit every day, until it is finished. And then I can go from there.
This makes me feel so much better about the moments of working out/training where you're really just Not Having A Good Time, and it makes me feel way less guilty about feeling that way knowing I'm not the only one. Good job Cody :)
I felt the same. This side of cody makes me feel that being human is cool because we all get frustrated. We all need support from family. We all can overcome our challenges. It's all possible with some belief and a step towards our goals.
I haven't been on Cody's channel in a while, but immediately clicked when I saw this. It's so special to listen to stories of growth like this from people pushing themselves to new limits. This is pretty badass. Good work, Cody
I had a near fatal infection that turned into emergency surgery , the pandemic and being in bed rest for that completely destroyed any strength i had. Now walking for more than 10mins is hard. I’ve been working on just walking and i am craving to feel strong again. Mission accomplished seeing you just tackle this challenge absolutely inspired me. I can make my body so hard things.
Same, when covid started I was still playing hockey, and on top of that I was working out rigorously. I stopped around the same time I quit hockey and it's just been downhill from there. Really gotta get back into it, and I'm starting now

This is really awesome considering that Cody’s content has genuinely improved over the last 3 months. It’s really inspiring to know that his physical and mental health is what has contributed !!! Love to see this content :))))
This seriously makes me want to get my shit together lol. I've been wanting to do something like this for years but have been stuck in the mentality that I can't so I may as well not try. It's nice to hear someone else who was also in that same mental space say it out loud and show how they overcame that and did exactly what they said they wanted to do. Thank you for sharing Cody. Would love to see more!

I wanna see more of the guy who isn’t trying to entertain us, because sometimes I think that’s more entertaining. Congrats on the finish, dude!

Doing hard, physical things is the single most effective way I've found to live a happier life.
that's awesome! what are some examples of these challenges that you give yourself?
Leon! I just hopped to Cody’s video from yours about GenZ dummies 😂😂😂
Perfect combo 👌🏻
Also, I felt the same shame Cody mentioned when my initial reaction was NOPE. Now I’m all riled up about getting back on the proverbial horse.
Dat kushy lush life BABAYYYEEEEE

Whatever you’re doing it’s working! You and Mrs Lush look amazing, you guys have been killing it this past year.
Cody please.... PLEASE run more races, talk about gear, and training, and whatever else. As a runner and a fan, this video and hearing you talk about your experience just elevated your whole vibe to the next level. Thank you for this
Yes!!! I totally agree! I want Cody to dive more into the mental aspect of training! Super awesome video!
Even if you're not a fan of it, people should be telling him to do it more, to motivate and better his life and uplift others
kinda boring
What kinda gear would you recommend?
Hilarious and inspirational, it was easy to watch
Honestly, hearing him talk about the last leg made me really emotional. It must be such a powerful feeling to know you've overcome what might feel like the shittiest moments. I've never been a sporty person but he's right this is actually inspiring. And him talking about the lows helps me look forward realistically to challenging myself.
It made me emotional too ❤️
It's so freakin cool to see popular content creators shine their spotlight on ultrarunning.
And congratulations on the race!
This video is incredibly inspiring but damn I’m loving going through all these comments too. It’s ones like this that are seriously making me want to do something like this for myself
Well done!!

I don’t ever comment, but Cody this was so inspirational.
Coming from a man in the army who dreads my 12+ mile rucks and 8 mile runs, this motivated me to continue to strive to better myself at these things!

@@Ade-ing if you’re thinking about it you shouldn’t stress about it too much, a lot of units don’t even run that much, personally I’m in an airborne unit so the standards are higher. Like others have said though it’s all in the mind. You can accomplish anything with enough will power. Cheesy ik

Make sure you make it a habit! Motivation fails eventually, but habits are hard to kill
Nah mate. Don't worry about it
This was actually mad inspiring and I’m going to start running again. I miss the feeling of having goals and hitting milestones
You’ve got this!
You got this, and I’ll see you at the finish line!
and feeling like I’m better than everyone else.
@@tbarber742 i just started xc about a month ago after quitting softball (HUGE CHANGE) but this really inspired me to keep working hard. the first time I started running long distance I just felt like shit because there are kids running 6 miles faster than I could run 3 and I just felt like I wasn’t getting any better. coaches assured me they saw improvement but it was almost like i wasn’t good enough for my own standards and i got to a point where i couldn’t push myself enough to get to my own standards. running seems so simple but there’s so much going on in your head. our first race is saturday at mt sac and i am just now starting to feel ready.

and he has come so far since this race. so proud of you bro! was cheering hard for you last week at YOUR FIRST IRONMAN!!!!
Start by doing 5km running and grow the distance from there, the most important but is walking really long distances.
Most local running stores have weekly group runs, also volunteering at races is a great way to meet people in the mountain/trail/ultra running world
@@mattcary8075 For this distance (and with 9000ft of elevation), you're probably looking at well over a year if you're starting from nothing. But you're absolutely right about slowly building up. Progressing too quickly will just lead to an injury

Pewdiepie is a great example rn for that
Its so amazing that Cody Ko was one of the rare few creators that was able to both become very successful and yet still stay humble. Fame changes people but Cody has stayed pretty much the same. Respect
First learning an instrument, now running a marathon, Cody in his fulfilling life experiences era?
ua-cam.com/video/zGm-tDE6YEE/v-deo.html
Based on Cody's explanation of why he chose to do this:
It seems like Cody worked really hard to be successful but didn't find life as fulfilling as he'd imagined, so he got a bit complacent, unhealthy, and drank too much.
It looks to me like Cody is figuring out what is important in life, what makes him happy, and most of all what motivates him to be something better than the worst version of himself.
Whether I'm right or not, it is nice to see him trying harder at things and seeming less subtly depressed.

I think one of my favorite parts in this video is the wholesome support system around Cody. The reassurance when he reached the second aid station just makes me happy makes me smile.

That probably sounds so stupid lol
Anyways I loved this video and it was really inspiring!!!
the story of how you were previously struggling and letting go and managed to pick back up and achieve something like this is crazy inspiring, man It makes me not wanna give up at anything and to think youve inspired hundreds of thousands of people to feel that way too, massive fuckin props
