Die hard hip hop head here, Diddy being a pile of garbage has been the worst kept secret in hip hop for decades. The saddest part is that the public has known of many of Diddy’s other wrongdoings for decades as well, he’s just been out of the reach of actual law enforcement for a while, I think I can speak for the hip hop community when I say this has been a long time coming. Great to see Diddy finally getting what’s been coming to him for a long time.

It's cause his influence is waning. Who cares about Bad Boy records these days? They got MGK, French Montana - already a questionable lineup - Janelle is cool tho
Sadly, it seems like people like Puffy, Weinstein, Schneider, and many others only face justice once they stop being moneymakers.

My mom used to be cool with a lot of industry folk due to her past as an aspiring singer and songwriter so I grew up with her celeb encounters and stories for the encounters I wasn’t present for. When I was 15, my mom went to like two of Diddy’s parties as she was cool with one of his in-house producers; one party she said she stayed till just before 1 AM when her friend said he was leaving and she should leave with him at that moment or else she wouldn’t leave till it was completely over. She left immediately and after that she knew all the rumors that had been floating around for years were true. I never forgot that story (among her other diatribes about how she didn’t like Diddy in general) as my friend and I started to maneuver around the industry. It’s really wild but oddly disturbing just how accurate she was about her reading the room and calling a spade a spade. She was right. And I’m so happy the victims are getting their time in the sun to tell their truths and hold these monsters accountable! I hope he gets ALL the fitting charges and I pray he faces FULL justice for any and all of his crimes/transgressions.

I don't follow hip hop so I have no idea about these specific allegations with Combs, but I will say that, many moons ago when I was on the fringes of my hometown's music scene, I read a book called something like "the Assistant Engineer's Handbook" which talked about the ins and outs of getting your foot in the door working for recording studios and how to work your way up in that world. It had a section specifically warning people to never ever fetch narcotics for staff or clients because it's better to get fired than to get busted with someone else's drugs and catch a jail term for it.
Which kinda indicates that it's a common enough pitfall or risk to warrant mentioning.
Anyway, that part of the lawsuit reminded me of that book.

People do a lot of things they shouldn't to hang on to crappy dead end jobs just to make ends meet. Imagine that desperation a thousand times over to hang on to a job that has the chance of getting you into the business of your dreams, a chance to be around all that money and power, a chance of getting you rich and famous -- look at Fonzworth Bentley for instance, speaking specifically of Diddy. Advice like that is practically worthless because it's either preaching to the choir or preaching to the "it'll never happen to me/it's worth the chance" group(and that group is not just young/naive...look at Michael Cohen).

Random story about BadBoy.. When I was 13 (late 90s) I was a young DJ working (kinda) at a popular record store in Toronto. One day Ma$e walked in, apparently Diddy was also in Toronto but I only saw Ma$e. They were nice I guess, but they wanted to go to a strip club next door and kept trying to tag me along with them. For real the persistence. I was 13, I had my first real girlfriend, and I was interested in scratching not strip clubs. I found it super creepy. I met a bunch of other celebs, Seal, Maestro, Common, they were all so much more respectful. That entire squad was bad vibes.

My firm has a strict no-celebrity policy whenever it comes to the 'new rich' from music, sports, etc. The lot of them are both scumbags and bad news in my experience.
We had a singer proposition sex to one of my employees an hour after first entering the door. I thought he was messing with me and it was a setup, but she reacted fiercely and he told me to shut her up so he could continue and that made it clear it was no prank. Told him to leave. He didn't leave. So he was made to leave.
A footballer went through two bottles of wine with a friend at a business meet turned drinks, then when we suggested we should start thinking about which hotel he'd use, he acted surprised and drove off in his car. Like three hours later police called me when I was in bed "Hey, so you reported a drunk driver, do you know where he is?", well by now he's probably gone to the barber to shave the beard he grew in the meantime, three hours....
Another singer basically tried to flirt with me to get a discount. When I grasped my chin to show my wedding ring and went 'Well, you know I used to be pretty religious, plus my wife would kick my ass' she insisted and doubled down, I told her to leave or be made to leave. The nerve on some people.
So yes, 'who are you and what do you do?' is pretty standard fare if someone we don't know yet shows up. If they're in showbizz suddenly we're too busy or the price quadruples to make sure they won't be interested.

I happen to know someone Sean Combs blackmailed. A friend of mine told me this story 8 years ago, but he claimed he was photographed having sex with a girl he thought was 19 years old but she was actually 15. He entered a rehab facility after this event and I visited him there. That's the reason he told me he entered rehab but he didn't elaborate on why - he said he was there for drugs. alcohol, sex, and gambling. He paid the blackmail too. I always believed him because he was a wealthy executive and had family money. Plus, that's not a story you tell your friend to make yourself "look good". He's currently in hiding out of the country, all this shit makes him nervous for some reason. My friend was an addict with unlimited funds and here in NYC, "party people with money" is an easy group to join. If you have the cash and do drugs, you can easily get caught up with a really sketchy crowd. Sean was a well-known member.

Statue of limitation don't exist to give criminals get out of jail free cards.
They exist because they recognize the reality that all types of evidence can and will significantly degrade over time.
So instead of a trial being based on hard evidence you end up with trials that are based on long forgotten memories, hearsay, speculation, and bias.
While I think with the continued progress of forensic science it making it more and more possible to extend how far we can gather this evidence with confidence, we still have to be able to collect *something*.
People have the right to a fair and just trial, especially with crimes as heinous as sexual assault.
Just remember that just as there are people out there who are awful enough to do such crimes, there are people out there who are willing to invent such events for personal gain (Blackmail, Pity, revenge, ECT)

His role in Boys in the Hood was so laughably cringe. It's like here is a story about literal young black men in "the hood" and their experiences and they got Tiger Woods to play the lead role. I'm so glad that movies have evolved into a more authentic portrayal of the world.

As soon as Devin mentioned it, I asked myself "why the heck Homeland Security??" But then just a few minutes later he answered my question.
Speaking of which, does anyone else _still_ get a queasy feeling every time they hear such a vaguely fascist-sounding name for a United States Government agency, or is it just me? (Why the half-measure? If they were going to give it such a name, why not just go all the way and call it the Department of _Fatherland_ Security?) I remember being filled with discomfort, and more than a little disgust, at such a name back when the Department was first formed, combined with disbelief that they couldn't grasp the connotations of such a name?
But then again, it _was_ the _Bush_ administration... failure to grasp the fascist connotations of their actions was really just kinda _what they did._

As I understand legal ethics rules in Illinois, one cannot threaten to open a criminal complaint to obtain an advantage in negotiating a settlement of a civil tort.
That said, the authorities with jurisdiction to prosecute a criminal matter can independently bring a criminal case. Being sued civilly doesn't shield one from being prosecuted.
I do find that the feds are most interested in show-boating than a neutral application of the law. That is, the justification for DHS and the feds to be involved in the criminal case... generally rape isn't a federal matter. But, being Black, high profile, using drugs... that he probably could have gotten the feds to look the other way. But underage girls and a pattern of crimes... it probably isn't a total surprise the feds got interested.
