The fact that people keep comparing a budget offroader to a car that is 3-5 times more expensive just goes to show how incredibly competent the Jimny is.
They are awesome machines alright!
And the winner was clearance.
That and the 79 cut the crap out of all the tracks before the zook got there……
I see the Toyota guys in Australia are just as big of snobs as the Jeep guys are here in the US
haha, not really mate, it was all about having some fun for the camera and creating some rivalry and drama out of an easy trip with mates. The Landcruiser is a staple but the Jimny is a giant killer at a third the price!
Youre almost spot on mate... majority think a 4x4 and think big wheels big car ute
Dont need all that tho lol any suzuki 4x4 is best shit going round all models qre unique
At least they can back it up go off-road and back on its own power
@@xwhels you can go around aus in a suzuki... besn done heaps
@@angusbarker5733 talking about jeep guys
I take my Jimny offroad with the local land cruisers. What you quickly learn is to not follow the 35 inch ruts. You'll just bottom out. Rather, use the narrowness of the Jimny to work up the sides of the tracks. If you fall in the ruts, work up diagonally and send it.
They are great rigs for sure!
Both great 4x4s, the Landcruiser was an old dog slowly picking its way through the bush, the Jimny was like a 6 month old Labrador bounding after its mate... :-)
haha, we love it, great analogy mate...very good!
Hats off to the great and mighty Jimny.
yes a great little machine!
Best example of a Jimny vs another vehicle Ive seen! Nice one!
Thank you mate. We definitely had fun making this one!
You really replied to everyone!
That’s a good UA-camr
Well thank you. We try our best!
Jimny gave that 79 some serious competition!
Shame they have such a long waiting list to buy one.
No argument there, was an awesome day out.
@@madrx2 and they didn't build enough.
Wish I could get out again but being sick with Covid and all the lock downs here its kind of impossible...
And for less then half the price!
Ok so obviously you gotta give it to the 79, BUT the jimny is probably worth only a third of that 79 rig. And price to performance difference goes to the jimny twice over.
Great thought process.
The first car up a puddled wet greasy track has the best chance .. the suzzi should have gone first . it may have been a different outcome still impressive
All in fun mate! Was a great day out.
Somebody send this video to Land Rover, The Jimny is a traditionally built 4x4.
Could the new Defender do this?
haha, great point of view mate! We agree!
@K W I agree and it is sad, very sad.
The new Defender is going to go down as one of the biggest automotive blunders ever.
The very vehicle the companies reputation is based on replaced by a badge engineered disco. Shocking.
I can see the new Grenadier outselling the new Defender which will really prove a point that Land Rover have lost their way.
@K W I have a LandCruiser 76 and it is my final vehicle. It is just built so well and OEM parts are easy to find that are made in Japan not China, that makes a world of difference.
Buy one and you won't go back.
@K W I grew up in the UK loving Landies, I have a cousin who grew up in Africa and he always raved about LandCruisers being the best.
Don't tell him, but he was right.
Nope. Check engine light would be on within the first 10 mins.
Funny how they only needed to recover the jimny after chopping the track up with two massive rigs rutting it out. Bet if the jimny went first it would have made it.
haha, the Jimny got further than the Colorado mate. The ruts higher up were just too deep and the Jimny had no chance in the higher section but based on pricing, the Jimny won all day long!
@@4WDTV Great that a cheap, properly made body on frame, dual solid axle vehicle exists. I love my Jim but hope we get more little bush bashers on the market too.
I have had both types of vehicles, an early Suzuki converted with a Corolla motor , then a 60 series 4.0L petrol and now a 76 series 4.5L V8 turbo diesel. They are all different and each has its certain advantages over the others. No such thing as “best” but we can have favourites for sure and if money was no impediment we probably would all choose something different.
very true, it is really just about being out with mates and having a laugh.
Some serious competition there but you aint gonna beat the mighty 79. Land cruiser for the win 😊
haha, no doubt, but it was still a fun day out trying and if you based it on cost Vs performance we think the Jimny did an awesome job!
@@4WDTV Absolutely. Agree 100%
Great video - and SO impressive how the little J just went forward. I need one! But they are going up in price….
we all want one!
On any bro trip there's always that one guy who gets stuck in a place in shouldn't have gone, and drops his phone in the creek.
Put the zook on 35's for a fair fight.
too true. It was never meant to be a fair fight though, just an excuse for some mates to have fun!
Simon, you have got to get your mate Ossie on the show again. His personality is refreshing.
Yes we did, he has been in two episodes now and will be again!
The little fella certainly punches well above its weight.
we definitely agree!
Jimny needs slightly bigger tyres.
the tyres were the biggest they could fit. Any more would rub. What it really needs is lower gearing and diff locks. It's a great vehicle.
but yes...that vehicle did have diff locks sorry. You are right though, some more clearance would help on that climb.
Needs 235 75 r15 tyres and lower tyre pressure.
Or 31s with a 5cm lift kit.
The km2 is not the best mud tyre out there.
It could probably go up that first obstacle (the winch one) if they tried it.
It almost went up without even trying.
Also, it's a suzuki, you are suposed to go up stuff at 5000rpm.
@@samurai4x483 thank you. Nothing would get up that first obstacle, the rut on the left is just too deep and the clay was too slippery. Tyres were at 10PSI but yeah, you can always go lower on a Zook.
@@samurai4x483 We are not allowed to modify vehicles that much. Tyres were at 10PSI, they were low enough. The vehicle really needs better gearing.
The Suzuki Jimny is just a small version of Landcruiser 79 series. That's why is so good.
Well not really. They are good because of power to weight and reliability backed up by a wheel tracks that generally doesn't slip into both ruts.
Nice video, could u please tell me all about the upgrade that you 've done in jimny, like lift kit, winch, since u still using stock rim what tyre size u use and do you also change the panhard bracket after use OME lift kit and how much lift that u made after adding winch and arb bulbar
Hi Mate, this vehicle was prepared by ARB head office in Melbourne Australia. It tis best you contact them for bull build specs. Sorry we don't have them. Thank you.
Cool clips , thank you .
Can I ask how you guys secured the fridge in the back of the Jimny? You flashed a shot but I couldn’t quite catch it. U seem to have created a tie down point which I’m unaware of. Thanks fir a fun great video. 😊
best to contact Seriously Suzi as it is their Jimny and they built it mate.
Looks like the camera crew should upgrade for the Jimny!
haha, just not big enough mate and not enough seats!
Nice video, but which radio antenna do you use?
car radio is just the factory antenna. Our CB UHF radio is Australian made by RFI.
Well done to both vehicles, that looked like some serious terrain, would have liked to have known what gear each vehicle used on each section, does anybody do a lower low range transfer gear for the new Jimny yet?
The Jimny really does need some gearing. check in with Seriously Suzi as I know they are chasing something.
Legends .
Suzuki gypsy(India) and suzuki jimny❤️
yes a great little 4x4!
both are great 4x4s, i think the jimny is best to get started in the offroad world, capable, not really expensive and you can modded it as you wish, the landcruiser is a landcruiser, they´re desing for this
But man, love the vid
My take on the Jimny for any semi serious offroading/touring is that it's too small and would be underpowered once loaded for a week's worth of supplies. People don't get smaller, neither do beer cans, fridge, second batteries, solar etc.
I'm sure the minimalists would be alright though and it's certainly more than fine for some fun in the bush.
Depends on your needs, plenty of people taking them all over the US and Australia but not the best for jungle trekking!
It hardly get more that a few days of supply , water food , extra fuel , camping stuff . All this did not fit compared to the triton where i was able to fit all my shit in the tray
Jimny got beaten by ground clearance but overall it was an even fight. I might pick Jimny as d winner
The Jimny did a great job!
Hey Suzuki we wait for a Jimny Stockman!
That would be awesome!
send the jimny thru first in place of the big heavy tojo thats ripping everything up.
Just some mates out for a day of fun. Was never a serious competition but if it was, the Zook wins on price alone!
Happy New year 2021!!!!!!!Suzuki Italia no longer issues homologations and clearances for the older suzuki Jimny and samurai! (My Jimny is from 2001 I wanted to mount heavy-duty bumpers of the type in vogue in Australia and then a winch and a +5 set-up of springs and shock absorbers and suspension! and tires higher than the 205-70-15!) and for the laws of suzuki italy that no longer issues the clearances for the registration approvals of my 2001 suzuki Jimny 4x4 I even wanted to mount the arb blocks of the rear differential and front and the super reduced to the gearbox!
Do they make a LHD LAND CRUISER
Wondering what are the Jimny modifications ? Tires + suspension + rear differential lockers ?
Thank you for asking. The ARB Jimny has front and rear lockers, Old Man Emu suspension, ARB Bull Bar and side rails plus the tyres.
@Shaun McCarthy Hi Shaun, all we know is that they were equivalent to 30 inches. You can call Alan at Seriously Suzi though as it is his Jimny and he is crazy about them!
@Shaun McCarthy oh dear, sorry mate - we thought this comment was on our other popular Jimny video where we have been smashed with questions. This one is the ARB head office Jimny. Bets to contact ARB about it, sorry for the confusion!
both are great.. still depends on drivers & experience :) and tires.. 1. tight budget but craving for off-road fun? Jimny. 2. think you can afford it wherein Jimny can anyway? Land cruiser. my thoughts
for sure. It's just about having some fun with mates!
1 - 1 fellas & i said before these things are pretty good
I had the opportunity to run with a older jimny at a place called Gordon Country in my land cruiser 105
And I must say the only thing I had better was torque. Very nibble little cars. Wombat holes make the short wheel base interesting sometimes the weight of the bigger 4x4 is helpful as well but sometimes not
Awesome fun and we love Gordon Country, shot a full episode there not so long ago.
AMATEUR
Was the 79 running 35’s and the ARB BP51 2” kit?
Quite possibly mate, but we would need to check. Although it may have been BP51s with 33s.
Loved it! Was the Jimny an auto or manual? Thanks
Manual mate, another reason it was so hard to drive especially with the stock gearing.
I think the Jimny with an auto might’ve done a bit better. I’d love one, but in the UK they’ve stopped making them, so they are now more expensive then when they first came out!
Was the jimmy a manual or auto version? Looking to buy one just don’t know what transmission is best for off-road
Great video Simon, well done mate 👍
This clip and drive shows exactly what I’ve promoted with my channel from day one, you don’t need a huge expensive set up to get out, have some fun and see the beautiful bush we have in this great country of ours. Well done guys and go the #bloodyzook 😉👍👍👍
Thank you mate. Was definitely fun making this one.
@@4WDTV yeah looks like you guys had a ball 👍👍 you’ll just have to invest in a waterproof phone Simon and everything will be hunky dory 😀👍
@@4WheelingInNSW haha, the phone survived fine!
@@4WDTV 😁👍
Great video with interesting content! It has a huge impact on my video creation. Please continue to make good videos.
Thank you my friend, we enjoy what we do!
You guys should get a old jimny 98-18 vs the new jimny vs the land cruiser
yeah great idea!
I don't know why Suzuki hasn't yet doubled those measurement and make a bigger Jimmy... Patrol size... it will sell as hell, at least in Brazil. Our only options here are Toyota Hilux / SW4 or Triton / Pajeros. But we're tall, sometimes fat (rs)... we don't fit in those little Suzuki boxes.
haha, it's a good idea.
@@4WDTV in Brazil we don’t have many options. I have a Mitsu Challenger... it’s 3.2 Diesel engine... and it’s a pretty good off-roader. There’s national options like Agrale Marruá or Troller T4 both on Diesel engines... but so far I’m pretty happy with my rig: 33” mud tyres, 2” lift by IronMan, front and rear steel bumpers, 12k lbs winch, underbody protection, remap, snorkel... dual battery, so far so good!
@@Zavalik well at least you have something to go of road in! Well done!
Japan seriously to upgrade the engine.
Lots of countries do not get it because of the fail emission standards
Our friend in Japan has the turbo kit and soon supercharger kit
wish it was available in the US, Plus I don't see the 79 as a win, because you had to take the Jimny beyond what it was equipped to handle. Stay with in it's ground clearance limitations.
Just some mates out having fun. Both were winners on this day, they did great. But if you count the vehicle cost, the Jimny was the winner!
That Jimny embarrassed the 79.
Go the Zook
the suzuki is the gatekeeper for 4wd's
it's a legend alright!
How did you purchase the arb wheel covers for your Jimny?
This Jimny is owned by ARB. You could contact their head office.
❤️❤️❤️
I noticed the jimny had larger tires from a stock version. Did it have a lift kit on?
Yes mate, it has the ARB Old Man Emu kit fitted.
@@4WDTV I see thank you. I’m getting one soon, was going to go with Tough Dog, will check out Old Emu. I’m in Japan.
@@MonacoSpeed Oh you must speak to our good friend near Nara. He is one of the best Jimny experts in the world - Naozumi Tsuda
@@4WDTV I shall thank you for the suggestion. Is this his FB page? ( m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=382344288545550&__tn__=C-R )
@@MonacoSpeed Yes, Tsuda Racing. He is our good friend. Very nice and 4x4 expert!
Little high suspension and wider tires would've leveled the playing field a little bit
I got both!
😜
haha...very nice! Which one do you prefer?
4WD TV
I got a 2020 78 and a 2020 jimny. The jimny is a toy, the troopy is a weapon. I like them both but if one had to leave the stable itd be the little one
Hill climb comparisons aren’t really valid with the 79’s wheelbase
Absolutely, the whole thing was just an excuse for a few mates to get out and stir each other up with some fun. Each vehicle has it strengths for sure.
Land Cruiser guys looks like Ken Shamrock and Sami Kallihan from Impact Wrestling
haha, not too far off mate...some real brutes!
That 79 driver is too cocky
we were all having fun mate! 😜
How is the automatic jimny?
Great video! I was a bit bummed though in the end where the Zuk got stuck going up the hill. Did it get stuck because it bottomed out? Also, I see that this is an ARB fitted Zuk, did it have both rear and front locking diffs? Also, did it have a lift? And what size are the tires?
Definitely had both lockers on but just didn't have the tyre height to clear the ruts. Quite a tricky hill! But it's a great little 4x4! I think we will feature it again this year.
@@4WDTV Did the camera truck also have dual lockers? It looked like a Hilux, was it a Hilux? I was surprised that it didn't make it up the hill but it was quite funny though.
@@tommysam8081 2012 RG Colorado with front and rear lockers.
@@4WDTV Very interesting. So in your opinion why would you say that the Colorado couldn't make it up if it had dual lockers? The Suzuki and the Land Cruiser didn't seem to have much of a problem getting up.
@@tommysam8081 The Landcruiser made it up because of taller tyres. The Suzuki and Colorado both had smaller tyres and lacked the clearance. The Colorado was driven out and around the main roads to get to the top. The Jimny winched to the top.
Twin locked cruiser on 35s vs a jimny with bugger all mods ?? Yea nah mate im sold , jimny it is , going to order one soon
haha, just some mates out having fun, was never a serious race mate.
@@4WDTV totally agree looks mad fun ... im ordering a new jimny now !! That was the little push i needed
@@zoidzoid9401 aha, that's awesome mate! you will love it!
Actually the Jimny is not built for extreme off roading without upgraded suspension and proper tires!
It was a tyre size issue
to some degree yes, each has it's pros and cons
What tracks are these
All very close to or off Watsons Road in Kinglake West. Fun tracks and all very close together.
Suzuki won because I want one so bad
great choice
cruiser $70-80K Car (100,000 by the time its modded) (lockers, suspension, winch, tyres)
Jimny, $35k...Id buy 2. Make 1 into a winch truck...Full cage, cut guards, 35's, twin locked....It would cream that boat of a cruiser....and youd still have 1 more spare car to drive on the roads....
I guess its a good advertising video for ARB tho...."anyone car go 4wding and have fun" good campaign considering we can't travel overseas atm. Smart marketing
we all have mouths to feed mate - but it was just supposed to be a few mates out for a fun day, so it is awesome that we can combine both! The Jimny is a ripper isn't it?
@@4WDTV the best part is that you dont need to sweat about the ballon payment like most flogs that 'own' a 79....Australian 4wd scene has become full of posers. Ill have a flogged out 40 series thanks.
@@bjones5240 of course we need to make payments, nothing is free and we have never expected or taken anything for free. In fact in most cases we end up paying far more but that's ok, we get to work in an industry that we love and we are being rewarded for our efforts in keeping i9t responsible and sustainable. hard to beat an old 40 mate...will always be one of the classics and I love mine!
@@bjones5240 well we can proudly say we have never taken anything for free and we probably end up paying extra. It's all about how you work for it and how hard you want to work. But you can never beat an old 40 and I love mine!
Less talk more action.
Overall jimni si so good.
Yes it is!
@Henrich Muller but also not so modified, just a basic lift, tyres, etc.
When has a 79 had good wheel travel.
On 37😂😂
bloke in the land cruiser driving is ozzie reviews brother...
haha...
That Jimny would shake to peices out on the Nullarbor plain .
The corrugations and bull dust would destroy it
Not so sure. They seem to be doing quite well under all conditions but time will tell.
@@4WDTV They are not built as a heavy duty 4WD
LandCruiser Pajero and Patrol are built to withstand harsh terrain.
Another problem is their lightweight, they tip over very easily. Suzuki was making lightweight 4WD's back in the 70's, that were 2 strokes, in certain circumstances they were actually better than more conventional 4WDs for example in deep sandy conditions
Little Samurai taking on ISIS favorite ride
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
On price jimny smashed the toyota
OK the game rivalry was played up for the camera, but Landcruiser man dick waving calling the Jimny a green eski ! The modified Jimny did well against the also modified 79. Let's see the Toyota play in the premiere league with "SCAM" Iveco Daily 4X4 or Unimog.
Not really fair matching a swb / low clearance / small tire 4x4 against a toyota on 35's ? I think the Suzuki did very well.
The Zook has plenty of advantages even up against a bigger foe, but in all reality this was just a fun day with mates joking around. if price is a consideration then the Jimny wins every day.
Jimny couldnt take that 1st point unless they were prepared to drive that boghole which they didnt... 79 hands down smashed the jimny
I like your thinking!
But that's mostly down to mods, the Jimny didn't have a snorkel.
Lol35s against 29 street tire no lockers what do you expect
Both of them are great trucks that I love but why the rivalry and put downs?
I ended up watching this on mute as the banter was cringeworthy 👎
Just a bit off fun mate, all mates having a laugh but it's not for everyone which is why we make 4 different TV shows and cover all aspects of the off road lifestyle.
suzuki is so tiny seems like youlll get lost if you enter a bog hole...
actually they float...LOL!
79 lost.
I will take a Suzuki Jimny any day before a overrated Land Cruiser
haha, why not!
