Enjoyed watching the two best solid axle 4wds on the market playing together. Excellent.
For the price of the Toyota I'll take 3 Jimnys taped together thanks!
How much in our Country? :)
@@SimsonBoyRW2 76k for the troopy, 28k for the jimny, 30k with auto transmission.
What?😮 In Germany with tax ca. 50k for the Toyota (only unofficall Import, LX) and the Suzuki (full, manuell Gearbox, Comfort+) round 20k Euro. Thanks and sorry for my bad english. 😃
@@SimsonBoyRW2 Try the Netherlands! My hilux was 26K eur without taxes. As commercial drive that's ok and wil end up at 41K eur. as a consumer however you'd see the 80K range. Bet you the troopy is atleast that.... if at all possible.
Jimney is available from € 26.155 including all taxes. Not sure what the troopy would do, but as a private person I'd get 3 Jimney's and 1 X1 from Patriot Campers Australia
Ah @david collins might as well be in the Netherlands,EU :P
by the way, as I do own a business I'm happy with my 2015 Vigo Hilux DC with a Rhino Evolution bar and custom (polish) rock sliders.
@@markbergman2342 Nice. The Hilux starts here at 26k€ with Tax. We call this "Mehrwertsteuer" (19%). :D
Proud to own a Jimny, Ironically the troopy is my next dream car, One day I hope to own one alongside my current 2019 Jimny..
Same here
great video thanks guys - i love these types of comparisons
I've had both. Love them both. (2015 Jimny) They both have amazing resale value.
Got my 2019 Jimny 3 weeks ago - love it. All seats fold flat so one can sleep in it. Ran it at highway speed - well planted, smooth & quiet for this type of vehicle. Fuel consumption - 6.4L/100 for manual, 6.9 for auto. Wading depth is in the handbook, but I forget. Extra 12v outlet at rear for my fridge.
Post some videos! I haven’t seen much Australian Jimny content.
How does it go at 110 on the highway? Any room for overtaking? Would love one of these but don't want to be limited to short trips.
@@WatchmakersApprentice I prefer 100. That's 3000 rpm with the auto. 110 would be a little noisier but quite achievable. Saw a youtube of a guy in Spain doing 130 on the highway. Overtaking at highway speed would need to be carefully considered. Acceleration is not so great.
Colin Brockwell you sleep in it ? How tall are you ?
Learned to drive in a 1987 Sierra in Alice Springs. During free periods of yr 12 I'd take my buddy and a couple of sheilas for a quick thrash with some cheeky warm beers. Every time I see one on the road I'm filled with nostalgic longing.
I will buy this zook next year. Mark my words.
Aw me too. Nostalgia like my IDIOT sister who rolled TWO of my dad's Sierras on loose gravel, which forced me to learn in my stepmums PINK HYUNDAI EXCEL lol
Ha! Sounds like great times, mate! I reckon everyone has a Zook-related story in their past ... and if they don't, they should. - Crafty
I'd take a Jimny. The ~$40k left over from not buying the Toyota will pay for a LOT of fuel on those fun drives.
Right you are, On long distances however you spend you money on motels, i spend my time sleeping in my troopy.
@@snakeinthegrass7630 troopy must be stained with fart smells and you probably stink on those trips...
@@Hazardbone you must know 0 about suzuki reliability
@@car.gems. Do you ? 250000km's on my old Jimny and all it needed was a new radiator.
@@ashcosmo3854 I sure do, 3 suzukis at home
I'm on a year waiting list for my Jimny. I cant wait.
Small 4x4's are a lot of fun. Can go places the bigger units can't fit through. But the little ones can't carry much unless they have a tray version. My Daihatsu F25 was a hoot. The new Jimny has a lot of those positives. A longer wheelbase version would be good.
I’m lucky enough to have the new Jimny and a new 76 wagon
Love them both
envy all the way mate :D
this is the only car video on youtube that matters
Im looking forward about 10 years when those jimny's are dirt cheap..the second hand market is going to be a blast!
if the old model is antyhing to go by, they will hold there value incredibly well
Yep, you’re better off buy a new one. They hold their value. There’s no cheap second hand ones.
Like both!! Can't knock either!
Though the troopy is more of a keeper.
I would love to own that jimny! Looks like a miniature defender. 😎👍
I 've got the previous model Jimny. Definitely a jewel, with enough for what I need! is there perhaps a comparison between the old and new models somewhere?
Great minds think alike, mate! We've had a yarn along those lines in the pipeline for a bit. - Crafty
Both are amazing
Can I take the Jimny loaded into the back of the Trooper? Or possibly on the roofracks? Thanks!
Toyota LandCruiser the King of the offroad! Jimny great compact offroader!
GU patrol chops em every day of the year
@Lock&Load 77 I love paying $68k for a single cab with no tray, and a 4.5L v8 turbo diesel that has 430nm
@@thnderdownunder9514 I am a Toyota Fan, but must admit the GU is a damn fine 4x4. I still won't buy one though because Nissan does not seem to be faithful to us 4x4ers.
@Lock&Load 77
How is it not a real 4WD? Are you confusing it with the Pathfinder?
I bought the landcruiser and waiting to buy a jimny for my wife :)
Well done mate
I'd say if you live in the city/suburbs, Jimney.
If you live anywhere in the country, Troopy.
my two dream cars... how i wish i could have one instead of my fiesta and lynx
I want both!
Ill take both
Thanks
Great comparison I reckon. Both of these vehicles are based on very old design, rock solid, and ultra reliable. They’ve both solidified themselves as awesome 4x4’s over a very long period of time and represent something for all budgets. I can’t think of any other 4x4’s that have been on the market for so long with the same basic design. If your in the middle of the bush, simplicity wins for me. Some basic upgrades like a 2” lift, snorkel, and bullbar would be great, although for an occasional weekend warrior there both fine. Great journalism 👍
Thanks mate. And good call on the suggested mods! Simple (read: easier to fix if something goes wrong) is always best, I reckon. - Crafty
Seeing that they're both unavailable in Canada, I'd be happy to get either of them! My JLUR Rubicon would love a younger and/or older brother to play with.
love this car
Jimny as a weekender and the land cruiser as my expedition truck! I would take both
I'll take both thank you
Some more focused off road tyres, a roof rack, a winch, a light bar and snorkle kit would make the jimny a perfect outback explorer.
Only thing that would be an obstacle for some is the lack of space so you would have to pack light.
yep, only socks and jocks for one of those trips in a Jimmy. Nearly forgot...and a bottle of water and emergency kit of course. Safety first folks! ;) ps: i love them both
@@cyclemoto8744 Perhaps a small trailer to stow gear, beer & petrol ?
Pack light? You put down the backseat and you have more than enough space for absolutely everything you need for even a longer trips.
Impossibly light, I’ve done a spreadsheet and it’s always over GVM. Roof is only rated for 30kg... even with the smallest fridge, lithium second battery... 2 adults and your over.
Forgot about a winch and front bar as it’s even more weight. You have 340kg to play with... including passengers and fuel
Would have been nice to know what fuel consumption you got, bet it was nothing like the claimed!
Did you try the troopy to the bush to back up your claim mate?
Fun Jimny, as I don't have the large carrying capacity requirements, and a pocket city car that can stand shoulder to shoulder with a Troopy is proper witchcraft.
Jimny so cute with that size
Compare prices in AU?
now we just need suzuki realises how abandoned is the actual 4x4 market, stretches the jimny, and give it 2 more doors, and i well get one as a substitute to my old samurai longbody
I'm just hoping they're going to release a ute version with a longer wheel base.
Peter Patina that will be good too, i think australia got a ute version of the samurai, that will be nice, suzuki got all the market for themselves, why not??
Salvador Maño in Australia we have a Ute Sierra/samurai it’s called a stockman I think
James Crowther i think i see some brochures some times ago, youre right
@@jamescrowther7611 yep, I live in Australia but I want the new model to come out with the tray top. If I had the money I'd convert the Jimny to a tray top. I can only dream.
The tyres on the Jimny are considerably taller than 200mm, not sure where that came from. Other than that a good comparison between the two.
My OCD at the Troopy's reverse staggered front n rear track... though I love 78 series LC's coz I used to work with them. The steering response that feels like you're ruddering a concrete barge with a paper plate, the turning circle that orbits the sun, agricultural gearbox from a tractor, the cascading waterfall of water that saturates you when you open the door after a downpour, the doors you have to slam so hard to shut they should come with a 'may dent door in process' sticker - these things are BEAST & utilitarian alternate fun lol Still, I'll take the Jimny & buy overseas holidays + a Toyota 86 with the spare change to a Troopy.
Yep, the odd front and rear wheel track are a bit on the nose ... but you can't beat all of those quirky charming Troopy characteristics that you listed. Sometimes old school is the best school. - Crafty
Two very different vehicles but great review. The last of the true solid axle vehicles. Hopefully the Jimny sells well and the aftermarket puts out some decent products in line with its light weight philosophy. A small lift and bigger tyres would be a good place to start.
ua-cam.com/video/b6ZWmNys1-k/v-deo.html
Nastase Catalin Alexandru it need arb bullbar if u want better protect for hitting the tree or tall rocks
Timothy Rinaldi no, to protect it from kangaroos! Hopefully ARB comes up with a bar that fits in with the Jimny’s light weight philosophy.
@@timothyrinaldi6609 Already done. Google - Jbox ARB. It looks awesome
Having owned an Africa spec , non power steering 1hz 80series (1992) I would add 2 doors and minus two digits from the 78 , yes I would take a 76 all day long . The Jimney is a nimble weekend toy , as soon as you are eating 700km+ in a sitting without stopping for feul , the Jimny is out . I currently have a tdv8 Range Rover and just the other day I did 1327km on 105l of feul . Thats right , I was behind the wheel for 13 hours . I have done similar trips in the 80 series too . I would have been stranded before the next feul stop in the Jimny , if you're a city slicker who wants to go play in the dirt , the Jimny is your car . If you want and need a dedicated long distance offroader , the Land Cruiser will not let you down .
I have picked and ordered a Suzuki Jimny
Had a Jimny and my only complaint is that is a bit small. In this age of design, technology the Toyota HJZ 76 is still dream car. Simple and honest truck !
Both good rigs, but just depends on how deep your pockets are.
Both excellent 4x4s. Jimnys lack of load capacity v Landcruiser.......no contest. But as a bloke from the bush who already has a bigger 4x4 for towing and cruising, I can easily see myself having the Jimny for something to zip to town in, and parking would be easy as. It would be a barrel of fun and a good second vehicle.
Argh.... I'd pick both. I saw them in action and can't wait to put my hands on them.
Which one?? Yes please!
Jimny for sure
They both have their place, different vehicles, both capable and I’m happy to be given either, are you listening Santa...??
Coming up, we compare a Cessna 172 with a C-130 Hercules.
I own a 2001 pristine Suzuki Samurai as a daily driver, and I love it.
I just came back from a 3weeks 4x4 round trip in Namibia with a 2014 stock toyota Hilux.
Sorry, but nothing beats Toyota 4x4s : my Suzuki would have died 3 times during my holidays, and the toyota held up very good, even after 20 kilometers of big dry river stones at 20km/h - I like the Jimny .. but well.. he loses generation after generation his ruggedness. This year they thrown the temp gauge. This same temp gauge that told me that my radiator was rusting from inside and saved my Samurai engine.
That 70 series is beautiful.
Fun jimny
Yeah I did think it was a very odd comparison but pretty good I'll take a Suzuki thanks 😁👍
I have a Jimny lol.. It goes anywhere like a billy goat.. I even have a goat decal in my rear windshield lol.. I love buzzing lightly past 4Runners and Tacoma's and Raptors as they are stuck in sand lol.. She's super light
The Jimny, but trim the roof off, why is there no convertible option? Had the old Jimny, also a convertible, great car.
Protip from a jimny owner, go straight to 10psi off road. They're so light the low pressure doesn't do any damage, it gives you more traction and most importantly, you don't need a spine reconstruction after a day's off roading ;)
Also, not sure what on road pressures you were running but around 26-28 is a great balance between ride, handling and tyre wear.
Great video :)
Great the-pressure tips, mate! So many people don't realise that tyre pressures are often the difference between having an ordinary time in a car (any car) and having a great (and comfortable and safe) time in a car. - Crafty
the jimny with suspension mods and good tyres, it's making defender owners think twice about their next choice.
Never thought buying some thing else.......Jimny is the next
The jimny, because the price! I have just ordered one. where i live i can get 5 jimny´s for the price of oneLand cruiser
Troopy for sure!
I like the Jimny and would have one in a heart beat but the Troopy has the Load Space which is a concern because most of us own a 12v Fridge or Two, Yes they would fit in the Jimny with the seats down but then you would need a light trailer for the rest of your gear which is not a problem. The Troopy wins out due to the shear Load Space otherwise I'd have the Jimny.
Horses for course, neither is the winner. Toyota good for deep wading, Jimny good for scrambling. Im betting the Jimny would make it up hill passes and loose rocks much better than the Toyota. A good review, but limited for the cars abilities.
I don't know, both are awesome
I own a Suzuki gran Vitara and it's amazing off road. I can only imagine how awesome the jimney would be. I'll take the Zuki
Skeeter Middaugh Nice what year and what mods have you done? I own a stock 2004 GV 2.5l
It's actually the 2002 Chevy tracker zr2 package. Has 24 valve v6 and full skids. I removed the plastic all the way around and put 235 tires on with no rub
They are build for very different purposes... One is for light offroad, the other is a beast to take on overland.
Light off-road?
I own both but a 76 series wagon not a troop carrier, I can definitely tell you they are both awesome machines but I do agree the 70 feels a lot more stable and more at home off road but the jinny is smaller and can get you through the narrow tracks with ease if I had to choose only one I’d say the jimmy because it’s a lot cheaper and can keep up with the big 70 but I wish Suzuki made the jimmy with a turbo Diesel engine then it would be even more awesome , but on longer trips I prefer my 76 just has more practically and you can fit a lot more stuff in it with ease. Plus the 130l fuel tank gets me a lot more range they both have there positives and negatives.
I'm a Troopy proud owner. . if you wanna have fun... Get a quad or a bike. If you wanna do everything all in one... The best two person Overland vehicle in the world. The troop carrier
Its like saying would you rather have a night with your wife or the young cheer leader ! One is fun but unstable other is older but more stable but a little boring
Lol,
Kennedy Muinde I agree 😂
hahaha nice description !
😂😁😀 how I like this naughty statement
Jimny's not unstable lol.
Jimny, every day of the week. Except, I can't see it being an expedition machine. Horses for courses, I suppose.
Earthroamer XV with one of these on an offroad rated trailer. Park up and use the Jimny as a runabout.
jimny for me. i can squeeze through the coconut and banana trees and through bushes and not worry much about the paint cause its cheap and i can park easily. good only for short distance travel though.
My son swears by his troopie. I just ordered my new Jimny manual today, possibly 12month wait. He doesn't know as yet, and will it be interesting to do our own day trip comparison one day.
Peter Jamieson, you're going to have a ball, mate. Let us know how that day trip comparison goes. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Crafty
Lwb 5 door Jimny. Now!
Two completely different vehicles for completely different purposes. I will take both :)
Just not enough range in the Jimny. Needs a bigger tank.
Fun v Functional, good analogy. Plus, made for different purposes... so right again.
Only point I'd make is the Troopy is too top heavy, saw a bunch of them on their side in Africa in some pretty tough conditions. I'd pick the Cruiser Wagon over Troopy anytime, for the long range stuff. But for the Short fun trips, Jimny every time.
I’am guessing this is west of Sydney, maybe near hill end, anyone got a better idea?
Nope, it's not. But that's also a good spot. - Crafty
Can you give me a hint?
@@Fernweh4x4andadventure Can give you more than a hint, mate. It's private property, part of River Island Nature Retreat, near Wombeyan Caves. 4WDing on the property is strictly prohibited unless you're participating in a Retreat-approved 4WD training course - Phil Poulter's is a great one (www.4wdoffroad.com.au) - or you've already made arrangements with the owners, including payment. Hope this helps. - Crafty
Cheers mate, I’d love to check the place out, especially if it’s wet! Mates got a new jimny too
I want both to come to Canada so I can decided what I want.
I think if you mentioned the price of each vehicle this would have been a good video
mongrel dog. Love it
The troopy is better for rubbing doors and nudging bumpers in the coles car park.
Fun comparison - if you can afford the Troopy you can probably have both.
Jimny 💪
I♥️JIMNY!!!
Dont compare to a Landcruiser , Legend cant be compared....
Jimny!
I would take one of each. Both great cars, well one truck and one shopping trolley Haha
"Truck?" This isn't America, we don't use their definition of "truck."
For the price of the Land Cruiser I’ll take two jimny’s! And have dough left to do some upgrades!👌🥰👍
I'd pick the functional troopy
buy the Jimny , and put the remainder cash in savings and investments.
They really need to bring back Suzuki stockman (Jimny/seira ute)
Absolutely! The market is screaming for a small 2 seat 4WD ute/trayback.
Choosing between the two would really be a life and death situation.but putting myself in one ....I would most definitely choose and recommend the Toyota . On the latter ,the jimny is good ,but it's not a Toyota Land cruiser .
How many wars have the jimny been in....In Africa ....you can't start a war without a Land cruiser
According to the handbook, wading depth should not exceed 30 cm. I am only 500 km into the 1000 km run-in, so don't want to hammer my vehicle yet :-)
I'd love to see the Jimny come to the american market.
I would pick the Jimny anyway because of price, but if it had the engine out of the Troopy you could have even more fun LOL.
The Jimny is damn sure better value for money. At least it has sound deadening, coil suspension, comfy seats and a correct wheel track. I love the 70's but with those issues listed above, Toyota is seriously taking the piss at the price they ask.
i love troopy land cruses
I have a Jimny and think a troopy would be good but not here in Japan. Too many roads that a big car won't fit down, no tracks are wide enough for much more than a jimny, and a really hard time finding a place to park a troopy. Horses for courses.
Why America doesn't sell those cool off road vehicles. 😔 you Aussies rock.
Both are great off road masters choose what size you want you can't go wrong
Some company should do an aftermarket off-road mod for the Jimny, increase the fuel capacity, wading depth, etc.
I would buy the jimny for my local off road fun an town shopping an hire the cruiser for my outback touring
