Great idea using one to make a coat hanger! Also, I had no idea that you could just grab the knot and pull and even a prusik knot would come off! You always share excellent ideas to make things easier.

The prusik knot is extremely versatile. Great for creating easy adjust sliding ridgelines using toggles on each end of the line. You can do just about anything with prusik knots, and taught line hitches. I hadn’t considered your coat hanger method. That could really come in handy.

I use a ridgeline for my tarp and a structural ridgeline on my hammock which I use almost exclusively. Last trip a few weeks ago I was testing new gear and sleeping on the ground. I discovered then the best use for the ridgeline, which I did NOT have on this particular trip: I reach up and grab it to help haul my ass up! 🤣 Unzipping my bug net and crawling out and standing up from the ground...I was wishing for something to grab onto!

Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos. You can also add those double hole button toggles to the loop, as spares, that way you can already have a toggle and put a lark's head in the bottom just a thought, what do you think.
I add drip loops at both ends so water doesn't flow up under the tarp when I hang things on the ridgeline.
hey Blackie instead of a loop in the ridge line put a carabiner on it!! faster and easier than threading the line through the loop!
I do similar. Except I use electrician pull tape. It is flat, white, and very strong. I am a structural cable guy so I have a bunch of it around.
Speaking of weather Blackie, what's the knot you use for drip lines and how many do you use?
That was a wonderful explanation of how to hang gear from a ridge line, but it was nowhere near what I expected the video to be about from the title. I was expecting information on preventing theft of my gear. Also, please fuse the ends of the paracord. All I could focus on was the frayed ends of the line.
You ever try using a prussik with only 2 loops? It might not be great for tightening your tarp shelter, but it might could keep your hanging gear from moving around.

For clothes hanging I always use the plastic bread square thing. Weight nothing and work great.
Thanks Blackie. Great presentation. Just one question: Do you have any suggestions to stop ants and other critters coming along the ridge line and down onto hanging clothes?
Our old army trick was to rub a bit of insect repellent on the cordage close to the tree or peg. It doesn't take much. The insects crawl off the tree, onto the cordage then are repelled. Just have to reapply after a rain or in damp environments.

Thanks. I to was in the Army here in Australia. I was thinking more of an infestation of them, like fire ants, or green tree ants (very viscous). I never liked the idea of reaching for a dried shirt only to find it covered with a big mob of ants.
@@cordellkent4790 Point taken bro. Australia has a bucket load more insects than here in NZ. The insect repellent may still work. It did well for us in S.E. Asia. Another option may be to move to England lol, the rain kills everything.
I’ve been curious for a while and wondering why you don’t melt the ends of your paracord, tape it or wipe it. Is there a benefit to leaving it fray?
