Tip: Try boiling 4 to 5 cinnamon sticks when you are boiling coffee 4 color dying, and it only takes 15 minutes once it starts boiling. The incredible aroma will last 4 years because of their acidity, and you can also drink it. Enjoy! :-) love this idea of working with envelopes. It turned out beautiful! :-)
I love part 1 of this video. Looking forward to part 2 I have dyed with avacado and loved the results ! It's time to do more dying. I've dyed with coffee, tea. A combo of coffee and tea, temprs paints watered down and shaving cream with acrylic paint. I've never seen envelopes with a liner till now.
I love the new ideas using envelopes! I've been dying paper with avocado for a few months, and I love it. What works best for me is using only the pits and not the skins. I like that the color is more of a true pink and less of a salmon color--also, it's a little less messy without the skins. I don't use vinegar. Also, it's easier for me to bake the paper than to try to find places to dry it. I also like the texture better. I'm no expert, but this is the method that works best for me. Thanks for showing us new methods and techniques. I just love your videos!
Hi Barbara. Yes, the Distress strains have been discontinued. HOWEVER, Tim Holtz said that the Distress sprays are the same formulation as the stains. They are simply moving from a dauber to a spray bottle.
Barbara what a gorgeous cover. I love those roses. I want to make one of these envelope journals. As always so love your videos and inspiration! TFS! ❤️
I once used the pips and skins of 4 of the green type avocado's, and although the liquid was a greenish colour the papers (printing paper) came out a very deep terracotta colour! I was totally amazed.😮
Thanks a lot for this great idea for so many envelopes that accumulate. I like the idea of the inner lining with interesting papers. Continue the good work.
all those avocados, too pricey for my budget but I bet they were delicious! One beet gives a lovely light pink dye (or canned beets) with vinegar to set the dye and is easier on the budget. I love the envelope book and made 2 so far. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
I was so curious about the avocado staining and get the proces now, will try this on a hot summer’s day, so the papers dry quickly. I love these size journals and it was so much fun, as usual, to watch you put these together and follow your thought process. Have a lovely day 🥰🤗
Thinking I am going to try making this for my daughter. Will be my first time trying to do a journal. Keeping fingers crossed. Between you and Treasure Books I am feeling confident.tfs cheers
this is very lovely. envelope projects is something that I enjoy doing and I have tons of them. thank you for sharing, looking forward for the 2nd part. b 🦋
So excited about this, I was able to follow the envelope instructions (but I skip the band around it). So pretty and I have everything on hand kind of similar to do it. Love it.
Thank you so much Barbara, that’s really really awesome and stunning and gorgeous too. I really really love ❤️ those paper’s. Thank you so much for the recipe for the avocado dyed papers, useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Hey Barbara...in sec.22 you mention you linked the video about the other envelope Journal you Show in that Moment...but I cant find the Link..? Br Maja
I love this papers..the color is very light. My avocado dyed is very pink. And I was wondering if i should use more water. But maybe it is because I bake my paper in the Owen. All my papers are much more dyed but I always use the bake way. So maybe you could try it next time. The results are very different 👍😉 Love the journal I also made the other one, and love it. Excellent tutorial. I have been wanting a demo on the avocado dying. I’m going to try this. Thank you Barbara. You are a delight to watch. So practical which I can relate to. Carolyn
I love it so far. I made an envelope journal inspired by you, using these type of envelopes. I’m currently using it as my covid journal. I can’t wait for part 2.

It is lovely so far, and I'm looking forward to part 2 now. Thanks for the avocado dying information. I have been curious as to the process to create such pretty papers. This video and the comments section have very helpful details. Thank you for the great video to watch, learn from, and enjoy. I'm looking forward to your next project as well. TFS Happy Creating! Stunning! The digital images are gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished jj Thank you for sharing how to dye with avocado. I have 6 waiting to be eaten 🤤
When I tried avocado dying, my papers were not dark enough. So I dyed them twice. The first time I soaked them in a water bath and dried them naturally. The second time I used a sprayer to cover the papers with dye and left them to dry in between layers of deli paper. The deli paper kept the papers wet a very long time (which was not my intention, but awesome) which intensified he color and also created some cool wrinkly-looking sections on the paper. When I dye with coffee or walnut ink, I use a sprayer instead of a water bath to get more speckle spots. I really like that look also! I think the distress stains are still available, but as a sprayer instead of a dabber bottle.
I know I'm a bit late with commenting on this video but I just wanted to say thank you so much for the brilliant tutorial - I really enjoyed making one with my 8 year old daughter but also wanted to thank you for introducing me to the digital collage club which I had never heard of.
