- This shows how observant you need to be around your parrot even if he/she is well behaved. They are parrots and will sometimes bite. Please know this before you get a bird, there is no way to know for sure they will never bite. If you can not handle that, you should not get a parrot.

god help me. watching the beggining made me so nervouse. please take my advice and never kep your bird on your shoulder and kiss it. it just a matter of time until he bites your lip or nose..... you can give him a good life and bond without keeping by your face and kissing. you could see hormones going crazy and his head just spinning. please I know you love your bird but please trust me.
This was a long time ago and yes of course you are right! Now we have a very good bond and I can read his body language! I do not let him on my shoulder anymore!! Thank you for the advise! 🤗🤗🤗
Also I heard on another channel than they only should be stroked on their heads/neck.If you touch their wings/under wings,back or belly they confuse this with sexual behaviour and that may trogger undesirable behaviours.

Yes!! Finally someone who knows this! Even really experienced parrot owners I’ve seen always pet their birds on the back which is really uncomfortable for them.

Exactly, they move quickly. But this wasn’t an “attack”. The parrot merely lunged at her. A real attack, imo, is when the parrot actually bites you. I always say, it’s not IF a bird will bite it’s when.
It’s also risky behavior when you put a parrot on your shoulder. To do so gives the viewer the belief that it’s safe. It is NOT! They can put your eye out and if they put their beak in the corner of your mouth, they can rip your mouth WIDE open, resulting in surgery and ultimately disfigurement. They can also rip your ear off. Either way, you will be on your way to the ER. Not a good idea AT ALL, especially with children! I’ve owned parrots for over 30+ years. Anybody viewing this video that has never owned parrots, but wants to, for God’s sake, don’t do what this woman is doing.

I do not know how long you have had Milo, but you really need to re-train yourself with how you handle him. Soak up and use as much info as you can from Bird Tricks and other respected bird trainers so you can get the most from Milo and he can get the most from being a pet bird
Hi 👋🏽 I realize this is a older video but I am researching parrots and I’m really trying to learn more about the Smaller cockatoos and wanted to ask if u think they’re just as much a handful as the big ones like your Milo? I’m researching the Ducorps Cockatoo and the Galah (rose breasted cockatoo). So far I have been told the Galah is not as unpredictable as the bigger Moluccan or umbrellas. But I haven’t heard too much about the smaller Ducorps Cockatoo. Do you know much about their behavior and whether they are just as crazy as the bigger too’s?? My Jenday conure just started attacking us out of the blue, like shown at the end of the video. Exactly the same way. I can no longer take him out of the cage because he will fly AT me with the intent to draw blood from anywhere he can on my body. At first I thought I could just use a towel wrapped around my hand. When he realized that his biting the towel did not get a reaction( or didnt hurt me) he jumped on my body and started attacking my side, in between my stomach and back. If I stand near his cage, too closely or put my hands on his cage , he will full on rush AT me , attacking the cage bars and in between, literally slamming his beak on the cage bars. He had previously bonded to my daughter, and favored her (and started flying/running away from me if I was in the same room as if I was the boogy man) . Her feelings were so hurt when he turned on her, also just this past week. He is FIVE and I have had him since he was completely naked! (See The Parrot Blog for videos of "Kevin", that's him) we all hand raised and trained him together as a family. He used to be clipped but not anymore. Its been a year or two since he was last clipped and NO I will NOT clip his wings , it is INHUMANE and also very dangerous for a bird to be clipped. I had my favorite little bird, a parrotlet get stepped on by mu husband and die a gruesome, horrible death because he was clipped. Anyway, when my daughter had Kevin out of his cage, he would look for places to "nest" (I say he because at 6weeks old I did have him dna sexed) and tell her with his body language (by going those places and acting interested in them) come on lets go here! For example, he knows cabinets open/close and dresser drawers open/close. You get what I mean... He is hormonal and wants to nest. I also think he is being territorial of his cage at the same time. Well Kevin now, attacks my daughter and I both, acts "afraid" of my older son (who he used to like also). Her feelings were so hurt when he attacked her. She has been training him recall, and he also knows 2 tricks I taught him. My problem is in order to let him out of the cage to have time to play, I have to deal with/endure getting bit /attacked. I cant just throw a towel around my hand. He will go for any part of my body he thinks he can hurt. It is very clear to me he is being territorial of that cage. We could get stricter with his bedtime, change his food (give him more chop etc...) and let him fly around but he will try to attack us! P.s. we have never petted/stroked his back, because we always knew better. But I do think its a mix of hormones and becoming territorial .
I know that around 4-5 Jendays achieve sexual maturity! This might last a while but probably will change again! I would take him far away from his cage in a room he does not go often! Let him sit at a window to look outside! No reaction at all when he bites! When he was clipped he probably was toweled so he might see it as an enemy! Birds do bond to one person but can rebond with another which can be frustrating! I hope my baby won’t do that to me she is 1 1/2 now! Milo is now almost 6 so I hope he is though his phase! He has been doing a lot better! I get a little nibble (🤣 if there is such a thing with a Moluccan)but not h to to often! 😊

Nice parrots
I'm just gonna say this: we all make mistakes no matter how experienced we are. The fact you posted and leave this up is proof you want everyone to learn from this and help them detect what is right and wrong and how to understand their body language. And you respond to even the ugliest comments with kindness and grace. Watching any of your videos you can tell you love your animals, especially your birds and you would not ever hurt them or do anything intentional to break their trust or make them afraid of you. I was seeing a lady about baby sitting her 13 year old miligold macaw about three months ago while she looked for another home. Right in front of me and my husband she told him to step up. When he lunged to bite her, she punched him in his face and told him "STEP UP" and when he did it again, she hit him even harder in the face! He finally stepped up because he was avoiding pain. Now THAT is something disturbing.
That is horrible!!! Oh no!!!! Did he at least have a nice cage anf toys and food! I love my animals very much ! I always try to stay nice, it’s not always easy but I try! Thank you for you nice comment Kat that is very much appreciated! 😊😊😊😊
@@Weloveparrots2 No :'( he was in a too small cage that was outside on the porch! It was awful. We called animal control. She also smoked cigarettes around him and his diet was mainly seeds a nuts and table scraps. I feel really sad knowing that there are so many people out there who do that to their birds and don't care about what's even good for them.
But that is good, stay positive! I love watching your channel.

@@Weloveparrots2 Not sure. We kept him for about a month but we didn't have proof of anything. I just hope she rethought her relationship with him. However, I heard she moved to the Bahamas without him so hopefully she rehomed him to a loving home. He was a sweet bird.
That is absolutely wrong! She is creating Negative behavior not Positive. In fact she should give her birds to loving homes who will be well educated and will train the birds that commands as positive. In fact I use just positive behavior with mine when they do the right thing I get more positive and provide treats for reward. Versus she who most Negative Reinforcement to the point it’s Cruel!!!
I work at a bird rescue and am a professional and this is what went wrong: cockatoos ( specificities Moluccan cockatoos ) have a lot of sexual frustration. I have one myself. You can only pet them on their head or it can get sexual for them. If they don’t wanna do something, DONT MAKE THEM... they will learn to do it on their OWN TIME. Now in this situation, he is only four so he is still developing hormones which is not easy on them. If you don’t let them do things on their own time, they will most likely self mutulate . Sometimes they need a break and while they love you dearly, they need less stimulation so I would suggest just giving them plenty of toys and definitely taking them out but a little less playing and more just out of cage time! You are an amazing bird owner and I hope you are doing well!

I loved this. Short and to the point. Folks need to start educating themselves MORE, before getting these beautiful animals as pets. EVERY time a parrot needs rehomed-it can become more and more difficult to integrate them into a family friendly life.

But I don't. Because too much commotion gives me a migrain. Can't teach a bird that. LOL. Or at least, you shouldnt have too. Because getting one would be irresponsible of ME.
I feel you must arrange your life and home to accommodate these guys....not visa versa. Ya know? I'm not talking training and such either.

Cockatoos are easily stimulated and petting all over only leads to bad behaviors such as attacking when they become sexually frustrated. If you know he is becoming hormonal you’ll want to refrain from petting down the back or anywhere else but the head as that will only exacerbate the situation. Why many cockatoos end up being rehomed and abandoned, but I can appreciate what you are trying to teach. Hope issues with the bird got better.

Doesn't look like a real attack. It was more of a communication warning.. For some reason, he did not like at all what you were doing, and the way to show you, as you fell to noticed his body language was with his beak. They do this in nature as well. A real attack, he woukd have jumped and hold tight with his nails while his beak work the attack.

Hi this is the first video I have see of yours. I have raised Parrots DYH and African Greys for 35 years. I noticed that you are somewhat nervous doing the up command. It may help if you raise your hand. I use 2 fingers and say Up and have never in 35 years had a parrot attack or not follow the command. My Parrots are taught that immediately as a baby and look forward to stepping up. Remember birds always go to a higher plane in this case your hand (fingers), never your arm or shoulder. Reason you have total controll when using your fingers not your arm. Hope this helps!!
Thank you I appreciate that! This was a year ago and he now steps up easily! He is adopted and was never thought the step up command , took a long time for him to trust anyone!! He alO had a bad foot and has a hard time stepping because of it
Ayo my brother has a grey parrot it’s his parrot I don’t really like the bird nor did I give it any attention however for whatever reason when that bird sees me it’s like a bull seeing red he flys through the room trying to bite or scratch me whenever I hear him flying I duck how can I get him to go easy on.

This is big parrot,my little parrot is machine for pain,he bites me and he js so cute,but he looks cute but he is so dangerous that if he come to your shoulder,he will bite you everywhere.
But i live him,and he is not now close to me.

I can see you have good intentions as a bird owner. However, parrots biting is just a part of life owning one. You can not react when you’re bitten. I know it’s hard but you just can’t. Some parrots are aggressive because of past abuse or they’re protective. Adolescent behaviour is something that will go away quickly through daily socializing, healthy diet, 10-12 hours of sleep and good interaction. You can not scold parrots. It just will not make anything better.
You are 100 % correct! I always tell everyone to expect to get bitten sometimes and that’s ok! This is a long time ago and he is all good now. Yes I never react and yes it is hard to do! Watch my newer videos and you will see we are friends now !! 😀😀😀

Anyone not notice the cat strolling by? How did you become of this Bird? Have you established trust? He seems to be tolerant not confident of your intentions. Give him time to take in his surroundings; be clear in communicating what your asking of him, so a forearm covered by your sweater pushed into his space, the nonstop chatter( noise) from you and then the super ,duper petting all over.Dang all that left me nervous! Hes going to associate you with all things to create an unhappy Cockatoo.

I have tow parrot they fought with their beaks and one of them bled from the tongue and i notice some kind of transparent saliva the blood isn’t runny or too much can you give me some advice?? At the moment I can’t go to the vet Might be able to in few hours. What should I do in the meantime?
So if he is not actively bleeding you should be ok. Watch for swelling and infection! Can you see a hole or something? If he eats normal and drinks you can wait and see! But be very careful as soon as you see a change in his eating or behavior you need to go and see the avian vet !!

my parrot attacked me two times. He got me good on my tumb and I got upset and locked him up. I am sad because we have had it for more than 20 years and he as never been domesticated fully and I am the only one that feeds him as he attacks everyone in the family. I understand why he attacks me and its fair, I mean food in exchange of slavery and dependability. Would you want that? I mean, this is the lowest lesson I learn and as I locked him up, punished for few days, he was looking at me to see what I was doing so he could do it and I hide what I was doing and he wanted to see and from here came higher lessons that many would say, you are taking it too far dude or some would just insult me. I understand anger behavior that can come from inability or lack of power to understand, alot of people do that so my parrot is excused. Wonder why has not destroyed us? "They do not know what they do!." I am just sad. He follows me and I HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT HE TOO CAN SAY NO BY NOT WANTING TO GO ONTO MY HAND AND WANTING TO BE ALONE IN THE CAGE. We live with flows, we have to watch out for those so we do not burst. Good luck.

Please stop forcing your bird to step up. Please check out bird tricks. They had a case of a bird attacking the owner because the owner would force the bird t do things. You need to do PERMISSION BASED work with the bird.
Fukai Kokoro I’m not forcing him. Believe me he is well taken care off! He steps up fine now but thank you for you concern! I would never force him he has a bump foot and needs encouragement !
I am also familiar with BirdTricks, and Jamie Leigh will tell you, as she does in several videos, cockatoos are ALL unpredictable at times. I have a Corella Cockatoo, which are much smaller than Umbrellas (which is what the parrot in this video looks like). Corellas, Umbrellas, they are just more unpredictable than other parrots. This can be especially true I have found when you have to clean the bottoms of their cage and have to have yourself in a physically lower position than they are. When they are especially hormonal, and they have a power position physically above you, they are known to "dive bomb"--also stated by Jamie Leigh at BirdTricks. I have to let Maui Lynn (my corella) out to play and fly around while I clean her cage, lol. I never clean it with her in it anymore, because she would do the same thing. So cut her some slack.

I don't fucking care. These are wild animals, if a wild animal attacks me, no matter the size, I will directly attack back. I don't care if the animal dies or how cute it is. That's why I don't pet animals and don't get too intimate with the ones that my friends have. Recently I watched a video where a woman tells the story how she was attacked by a little monkey that she fed for 7 years. The woman's finger is gone. I don't want to go through that.
Besides you are keeping them under captivity and making them slaves to your pleasure. This is just selfish.

i used the diving technique when my parrot wouldn't stop biting. i dunked him in a bucket of water for 10 seconds on multiple occasions and.....wala´ he stopped!! try it mate!

Nonsense. If a parrot is violent with you, they need to know the repercussions of such. And by "slap" I mean a flick of the finger.
Never ever strike a bird even if you thrust a quick finger at a bird without touching you intimidate the bird causing negative results. You l reep what you sow. A miserable squeamish bird and you missing a couple of fingers. If you are stuck in this mistreatment of birds why don’t you find another type of animal Like a Tiger!
Stay away from raising Parrots! Instead try a lion or gorilla,
