I have heard that birds can have tea. A certain kind of tea and no sugar of course.

@@steventhompson2664 so very sorry for your loss. I lost my peach faced female lovebird a few years ago. I got to watch her take her last breath and it hurt so much. (it was a tragic accident that one of my children caused so that made it even harder for me because I couldn't show my real emotion over the loss so not to make it worse for my child who learned about real loss for the first time, it was very hard on her.) I just cried for months. I loved her so much. I felt her loss every day for a long time. The pain will end one day but you will never forget your precious baby. Free-flying in heaven right now and forever. Peace be to you.

Also sad that the bird was only 4 years old and this was the 4th or 5th home already. If people don’t want them, they shouldn’t buy them. It’s a huge commitment and many don’t realize that.
Right? It's sad how many only last a year or so and once they are done being a baby, people are done with them. 💔
BirdTricks I was so surprised to see your reply....I love your channel....we have a beautiful Green Winged Macaw who has hardly ever been caged and a Senegal. What pair huh. We moved from Los Angeles to Vegas last summer and hope to see you guys perform sometime here. I do voice overs for TV...on a couple of stations in Idaho...KIDK and Fox 5. @@BirdTricks Yeah we love our small flock like they are our kids. Every bird we have means everything to us. Yes, Ricco our BFA is still a baby but he is here to stay with us until we leave this world. When I leave during the day I can't wait to come home to play with Ricco. I can't wait to make chirping sounds with my lovebird and pet our Lovey's soft feathers.
It truly is heartbreaking. My dad who is elderly wanted a bird when I moved out after high school since he felt lonely and he wanted someone to talk to. We both were completely ignorant of being a bird guardian but I was young and naive and felt bad for my dad since he had no one.
So we ended up finding a young African Grey male who was for sale. It was a young couple in a upper middle class neighborhood who had him for sale. I mention the neighborhood because you would think someone with enough money like that could give him a good life that they deserved... would. So we went to purchase him.
Well we found out quickly that the poor thing was injured because they kept him in a cage out in the garage and they clipped his wings so short that he got scared and fell and hurt himself really badly since he couldn't even fly enough to land safely. So after my dad negotiated the price and purchased him off of that awful couple we immediately took him to the vet! Which was super hard to find a vet that will even see a parrot let alone have any knowledge to what their actual needs are. Long story short the poor thing scraped up his butt really bad and since we had to give him medication clean the womb Etc.
He ended up absolutely despising my father and obviously associated all of the negative things with him since he was the one taking care of him. He ended up loving me but I didn't live there so that was heartbreaking in and of itself. We named him Brutus since we live in Ohio and obviously you know his colors LOL and we found out very quickly that he wasn't socialized whatsoever!
He would squawk and scream anytime he was unhappy in a ear piercing way, he would bite you no matter what you were doing especially if you were trying to clean out his cage or give him fresh food and water. He could only whistle one tune, that's the only vocabulary he had and he was 2 years old!
Obviously every time I went over I tried to help with teaching my dad how to take care of him properly with the little bit of research I did. In less than 6 months he had a full vocabulary, obviously he was completely healed and his wings grew back which we never clipped and he would let you pet him (only on his head) at least and he would let you pick him up, play with him with his toys and he loved to chase a stick around the floor for some reason which was hilarious.
Obviously since parrots are smart and especially African Greys he very quickly learned that people run to the phone when it rings so he started mimicking the phone ringing to the point where my dad was fooled every time until I pointed it out to him! My dad thought he was getting prank called multiple times everyday! LMFAO
Of course since my dad was your typical old grumpy man and he learned a lot of swear words since he hated my dad anywhere near him and my dad would obviously run his mouth when he was trying to take care of him in any manner So he picked up the sayings fucker, little fucker, what are you doing asshole, God damn it, bastard, you little bastard Etc. It was absolutely hilarious. And I just want to make it clear my dad did not abuse him my dad would just like I said run his mouth when Brutus was trying to attack him.
Long story short (once again LOL) he was a healthy, for the most part happy bird and you could just tell how much progress he made in those few short months. After a year we realized that since I wasn't around enough to give him that loving attention that he bestowed upon me since he loved me and attached to me, and he didn't like any physical interaction with my father we decided it was time to find him a real life long home. It was a hard heartbreaking decision but we knew that it wasn't the best situation for him. I know it was a better situation than his previous owner but my dad was getting older and it was getting harder for him to take care of him on top of the previous things mentioned. So we did the responsible thing.
We were lucky enough to find an amazing couple who were specialists in rehabilitating birds and taking care of birds and just rescuing them. We were so lucky that we found them and they gave him the best permanent lifelong home he could ever hope for! We got regular updates and he is the most spoiled happy gorgeous boy ever! He has an outdoor Aviary so he can actually fly and everything! Thank God though they found his cussing funny humor amazing! LOL
From this experience it made me never ever want to get a bird as a pet and advise anyone else to never do the same as well! Because if you don't have the money or the space or equipment or time it's literally torture in my eyes. I feel like it is a heartbreaking thing to keep a bird as a pet if you can help it.
Obviously there's a lot of circumstances where people who are not ignorant can give them a wonderful life like the people on this channel but 99% of the time it's not even close. Parrots are one of the most amazing smart and beautiful animals I've ever had the privilege of spending time with and they should only live in their natural habitat to fly free and live life as the gorgeous animals that they are!

I stated at the very very beginning I was young naive and ignorant of being a bird guardian and I had no idea what I was letting my dad get himself into. I also clearly stated I did research! LOL
I read books, I got magazines on the topic, I also did a little bit of Internet research but at that time there was not much I could find that could give me a good run down quickly since like I said...
I didn't have the time and energy that is required since I did not live there because I was going to College!
Once again I clearly stated I had no idea the enormous time consuming commitment that it takes! I thought I was doing the right thing helping my dad and getting Brutus out of that horrible living situation.
And that was my whole purpose of that comment!!!!!!!!! which is just seriously mind blowing that you didn't understand or comprehend that! God people like you drive me insane!
It would have taken me at least two full hours of typing to explain in full detail everything I did learn quickly and put to use in helping and teaching my dad how to take care of Brutus the African Grey.
After the realization of everything I just explained twice now,
once again... I did the right thing and found his forever home with well equipped, knowledgeable, beautiful people who love him and take the best care of him he could ever get as a pet bird!
Now please go be ignorantly annoying to someone else!
I thought I wanted a bird- so I did a lot of research and decided I was not ina position to give a bird the absolute best care. My WANTS do not trump a birds needs and best interest so I won’t be getting one. I wish people would research better and not get animals unless they can adopt a pet and give them the life they need and deserve. I’m not a perfect person or trying to sound like one- but I’m not going to risk a living things health and happiness if I’m not the right “ mom” for them.

Ironically, it's people like you that will someday make the best bird (or any Pet) carers/owner. With your beautiful attitude, I hope you don't deny yourself the joy of forming a relationship with our eath's beautiful Avians. I sometimes worry that the Bird that you once considered adopting might end up with someone less thoughtful. I love you for your attitude. Rock the World lulu! In anycase, GOOD ATTITUDE!
Thanks for thinking about the bird first and doing your research, I have OCD and tend to obsess about getting different pets but its hardest to think about the pet and harder after you do you research and see all the cute, fun things that they do but then you have to realize that you can't make their life fun and happy.
We found a lilac crown parrot in a pet store covered by a blanket, it had been dropped off. We bought it and took it to the vet. The vet wasn’t sure of her age but after blood work said that we needed to love her while we had her because she probably wouldn’t be with us long. She had been fed a seed diet her entire life and she had severe arthritis that caused her pain. She was unable to perch without pain. He gave me medicine to give her for a couple of items and he gave me some oil to rub on her feet for the next 6 months or so. Her feet had been so swollen that you couldn’t tell that they were birds feet. After I was done with the oil, her feet looked really good. She would lay her head on my chest and relax up against me. I had never had a bird do that. She was the sweetest parrot. Against all odds, she lived over 10 years with us. My heart broke when she passed away.

@@redrumax I am sorry that it has taken so long to reply. I am not sure what the oil was. It was prescribed and it was a deep yellow. I can tell you that after I ran out of that oil I switched to olive oil and I used that on her feet whenever she had issues and it worked wonderfully.
@@goddamnit thank you. Those 10 years were the best 10 years. She was our family bird but she bonded with me the most. I was her “mate” and she showed me so much love over those 10 years. I use to sit and rub oil on her feet while she rested her head on my chest. She was like none of my other parrots. She was indescribable and I miss her to this day.
I've seen so many people that bought a bird and just left it a cage to look pretty. Then got sick of the mess and the care. I got a little conure that way. He lived about 5 years with us. Don't really know how old he was. The guy who had him said he shrieked all the time and drove him nuts. It took me 1 day to get him on my finger. Second day my whole family was hooked. He shrieked now and then, but all he wanted was attention. When we watched tv, he was on someones shoulder, hand, or head lol. When he died, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
To anyone who tries to justify there parrots love of fruits with "but that's what they eat it the wild...!" Just keep in mind that even though a bird may eat a lot of fruit in the wild, but it isn't year-round, and fruit is seasonal. Parrots in the wild are also flying 20 plus miles a day so even when they do eat fruit in excess in the wild it's not year round and they're burning off all that excess sugar in a healthy way. Most parrots in captivity are lucky to have a cage where they can flap their wings a couple times a day or do a head Bob to burn off some of that excess energy but it Compares nothing to the miles upon miles they fly each day in the wild

What you mentioned is exactly why my brother and I keep our adopted African grey outside her cage all day while we are home. We also have a large gazebo for her when we leave. She never learnt to fly but sometimes hovers down from kitchen island or other places haha.
We try to keep her as active as we can. She makes a mess but it's worth it to keep her happy and active.
@Jim Piechowski agreed jim...unless you can give them free flight and a colony to socialize the majority of the day please dont consider pet birds...they have so much in common with people...their emotional range is the same as ours...they are meant to fly when they wish and form and enjoy those deep emotional bonds with eachother they yearn for

Bananas and pineapple are the worst sugary fruits. I could have hugged you when you said you don’t eat with your birds because I don’t either. People also need to be aware of nonstick cookware and the death potential with birds. I never stop reading about taking care of my birds. Thank you for the vid! 🕊
Not all non-stick there's a lot of stuff you should avoid and a lot of stuff you can use. I used ceramic non-stick and that's completely safe.
ChildishCodino - I chose to avoid all nonstick.
@@carolyncrna4375 it's specifically one of the chemicals in teflon... PTFE i think? that reacts when overheated, which causes the respiratory failure in the birds. but then again, a good set of properly maintained cast iron is really a great thing for cooking with. "safe" non-stick, or just a different type of cookware entirely... either way as long as the birds are safe!
I give my bird a small piece of banana on occasion but it’s not a regular part of his diet. He doesn’t like pineapple. I always offer it to him when I have some since he’ll beg for it if I don’t but he never accepts it. He likes apples but other then that he doesn’t really like most fruits.

I feel so bad for the people who lost their baby. Our Eclectus Romeo was on a horrible diet before we adopted him all seeds from Walmart. Glad he is in our care eating good now. Thank you so much for sharing this important information and making these beautiful books ❤️
When I adopted my Eclectus, the former owner had died and his wife hated him and had asked a rescue group if there was someone who would be a good owner. They knew about me and I was called to go pick him up to foster, but I said I'd take him for keeps because he was the SWEETEST guy.
The wife clearly didn't know anything about him, even though they had him for over ten years (I was trying to get information about his medical history or anything I needed to know about him). Well, she handed me his food and my jaw dropped - it was a bag of HAMSTER FOOD!!! which was from the local hardware store. Not even all that fresh - it had that rancid smell. I didn't want to scream at the lady (even though my brain was screaming) so I tried to make a joke and asked were they out of bird food? She said no, that's what they always bought him. I couldn't believe it. Not even wild bird food. Freaking hamster food that nobody bought (except her) in this tiny town so it sat on the shelf forever. There was a Walmart 10 minutes away and a PetSmart about 25 min away.
Luckily he's been such an angel when it comes to trying new food. He does that crazy jerk his head back Eclectus freeze thing and stares, but then he'll go for whatever we try to feed him. He still doesn't understand the concept of holding things in his hand to eat, but he'll get there.
The only thing he doesn't do is play with toys. He's so gentle he won't do anything to toys. I've tried everything from cockatoo down to parakeet (those are the birds I've got so those are the toys I've got) and he just won't bite or play with anything. If you have any suggestions on what your guy likes I'd appreciate it.
My grey is around 32 years old. For the first 29 years of her life she was on seeds only! I switched her to pellet only a few months after we got her because of yours and Dave’s advice. I can tell she feels SO much different. She doesn’t bite and lunge at everyone she sees anymore... just me! Lol.
Hi I Live in Durban South Africa.. I hear people saying pellets but dont know where to buy them. My bird eats mainly seeds for now. Please help.
@@meenanaicker8999 - Just search "parrot pellets South Africa" to see which brands are available in your country. BirdTricks's website has nutritional info so you can compare the ingredients list and decide which brand to buy.
Pellets aren't required- veggies & grains are fine. You can download a pdf of the BirdTricks cookbooks from their website or get dietary info from your veterinarian. There are lots of resources out there ♡
@@meenanaicker8999 Not all seeds are bad! I feed a variety of seeds and fresh veg every morning no my birds love their veg more than the seed! You can also sprout seed seeds too which are healthy @BirdNerdSophie has a great video which an avian nutrition expert which is very informative!
@@meenanaicker8999 You could grind seeds, and make pellets, so your bird won't selectively eat its favourite seed.

Hey hey, calm down, you're on the right track now. You are beautiful because you one of the few who can accept they made a mistake. I've been through similar. So chin up. your just a Human. your emotions will often cause you to get things screwed up out of love. I can feel it in my heart you and your baby animals will rock the world :) Most people I know in the real world can not stand to hear they are making mistakes and will find any excuse and justification to continue on their current trajectory. But not you. That makes you beautiful. You're a shooting star. :)
@@JasonBlack66Yes, just as most people continue to insist on feeding ducks bread even though (and after learning) that bread KILLS ducks in a slow and painful manner. I wish more parks and natural places would put up signs about the dangers of feeding ducks bread. I'm not sure if geese can eat bread either but I know it's bad for ducks.

We make mistakes, we love, we learn, we observe we change, we improve. Two most important things are love, and acknowledge error when it's revealed to us. Guilt is when you know better but carry on regardless.

@@steventhompson2664 I totally feel ya. After Woodchippy died it took about 3 years before I was ready to adopt another bird. I said never another lovebird again, and yet that is exactly what I got. I love Keeco my peach faced male lovebird so much. We make sounds together every day. He is so sweet. You may change your mind in time. It takes time

My conure Kiwi loves coffee (she was aloud to have it with her previous owners).
She stands at the kurig and screams for it.
So I bought a second Keurig machine that only runs water through it. And I give her a tiny cup of hot water and put it in the same type of cup I use for my coffee.
Then we sit down and drink our morning coffee and water together

Syrianna Girl it’s great that people are wanting to inform themselves, but really they need to learn before they even get a pet. Parents read tons of baby books when they know they’re going to have a baby, getting a pet isn’t some spontaneous decision, it’s planned and should absolutely be researched beforehand.

I love the book, Jamie! In fact, I love all three! Over the past few weeks since the books arrived, I've been switching my young Congo African Grey Ligaya over to your feeding program gradually. It's a delight to actually see her FINALLY eating the "good stuff" (including her pellets) which she never used to do, and I totally attribute her change in palette to weaning her off the junk! I also love how it fits seamlessly with your free-flight training program, totally supporting the birds so they develop into athletic birds, super necessary for free-flight! I am so sorry for their loss. 💔😫 Please don't give up on birds. Adopting Bella was indeed a gracious thing for you to do. When we adopt or foster, almost anything can happen because we usually do not know what their life was like before he or she came to live them. Thanks for ringing the alarm bell for all of us.
I had a budgie when I was a kid, and in spite of our best efforts to care for him correctly, I'm more and more convinced that we killed him with an improper diet. He died at only two and a half years old, and he had a fatty abscess on his belly that the vet biopsied because we were afraid it was a tumor...I guess they weren't a great avian vet because when it came back as just fat he they told us Kai was just chubby. No suggestion that it could kill him. We always fed him lots of veggies and some fruit and eggs and the occasional bit of chicken, too, but he did mostly eat seeds. When he died I thought he'd caught something from our bird-sitter's ancient cockatiel but now...I think it was us. Thank you, Jamie and Dave, for this channel. Budgies come from the desert and eat little seeds and bits of leaves normally.
Please what can budgies eat? I have tried with lettuce but I don't want him to have runny poo. I have postponed his training for now but I don't want to stop. He goes berserk over lettuce but doesn't like anything else.

I've been keeping various birds for 42 years now. I find that MOST people that *think* their birds are "picky" actually aren't. Their owners are "picky" and project that nonsense onto their birds.
People blowing of your diet videos are blowing off the single most imortant videos that you make to make them better bird caregivers.
☆ You keep making these critical videos. They DO help those that watch them. If your videos save 1 bird and make 1 caregiver a better companion, then consider yourself successful!

Omg this was so very helpful! We have a 2 year old African grey who had a panel done a few months ago due to feather picking under his wings just like bondi. The vet said everything was clear just a little low on calcium. So this video might have just saved his life I will be most definitely purchasing your bird cookbooks and doing a overhaul on his diet.

I think it can be a boring topic for most people and I've tried to make it cute and fun in the past but this story is just devastating and a real wake up call for some owners, I hope. PS - if you have other bird owners around you, a chop party is a fun way to go so when you make the seasonal feeding recipe you guys can all pitch in with ingredients and make it together and everyone goes home with part of the batch (works great when you don't have as many birds as I do, I need the whole batch to myself otherwise haha) 💓

I feel more public info from councils should be available. I've noticed, here in Australis, a hell of a lot of people feed wild parots "White Bread" It drives me nuts cos I saw a cockatoo slowly losing it's feathers & it was just upsetting. Trying to let people know, who don't speak English, is impossible so I tried a letter drop with pictures. I've also emailed local councils too.
I see that with wild birds like pigeons as well from foraging on human foods and their feathers become greasy... it's so sad.

I have two budgies, they started with seeds. And yes it took me two weeks and following schedule to convert them to pellets. But stil I see the difference in the feathers and even the energy level. And realize that it are budgies and a Big Parrot. Good food is important. Thanks for the info and awsome videos.

My eclectus (f) loves to eat my food but she now realises that when I say "its milk" or 'its chocolate" she won't get any. It is a way that we keep the bond by feeding her, as her species spends 9 months of the year getting fed by the males. She has a sweet tooth and my male has the opposite he loves his veggies.
I was also 5-6 owner of the the female and bonding was very difficult until I started feeding her I dont think she fully trusts me not to leave her now 5 years on. I got her the boy not long ago and she spent the first 6 weeks biting me (maybe thinking I was replacing her not giving her more to life). I still love my complicated moody and bitchy baby girl. Even when they eat better than me some days.

Love this video. I've owned birds my whole life. My cockatiel died at 25 years old, an old man. I've always had small parrots and I love them. I've had friends decide they want a bird and jump right into a conure or cockatoo. Half the time they weren't prepared for the noise or specified diet. Sadly none of those birds are alive today. It breaks my heart and when I tried offering advice for my friend's 6 month old sun conure who started pulling feathers, I was told to basically not worry about it because my friend worked at the pet store where she got her. She didn't live past 2 years old.
My 8 year old parotlet loves a variety in diet. He's a happy little talker and I can't stress enough to fully get educated before purchasing a bird. They're suppose to be a very long term commitment
Ive had my AG for over 25 years so I guess shes been eating well. Shes never had a Sunflower seed in her life, always been on pellets

As a bird owner of a Quaker, Pineapple Conure and Electus, I’m so glad to learned about the specific diets of my birds and how too much seeds or nuts can potential kill a bird as years progress. It was quite easy to change my Eclectus, Rubi, diet since she eats literally anything and isn’t that picky. I recently got my Quaker a year back and have him eating his pellets and other necessary foods. As for my conure Alex, it was hard to change his diet, he was absolutely picky and refused eating his pellets. But gradually, he learned to accept them and I’m so happy he has become vibrant feather color rise, he just looks a lot healthier.
Diet change can make all the difference!

So sorry for that poor grey. He wasn't even started. My Macaw was a seed mix bird when I got him and I have been adding various veggies, which he gleefully annihilates, but hasn't really light bulbed on eating them - yet.

We had a eglictis parot and I have been telling my parents since we got her to feed her the correct diet and well they did not listen. It absolutely breaks my heart that she also passed away when she was 3 because of liver failure after I told them countless of times to feed her the correct things. We have a ringneck and a African Grey and I can see them going down the same path only because they think because I am younger I do not know what I am talking about and therefor they do not listen. It is exactly the same with all our other pets and it just shows that I will never get a pet if I don't intend to give it the best life possible. They make me sad because they want to be able to say "Oh look I have all these pets" and brag about them when they should actually be more involved with them and give them what they need.

I had budgies when I was young and so did my kids. The only thing we were told to feed them were seeds. If I ever get a another bird I will get your book. The food looks good enough for me to eat.

This is a fantastic video. I am not a bird owner, but I am subscribed to quite a few bird channels here on UA-cam, and I have seen a few of the bad habits you have mentioned. However, I am only seeing short moments in their lives, so I don’t know if it is a regular thing or just a treat.
Anyway, you give so much great advice when it comes to all aspects of being a bird owner, and in my opinion, this advice is no different. I really hope that this video goes viral, at least in the bird ownership world.
Your cookbooks look amazing and if I owned birds or knew anyone personally who did, I wouldn’t hesitate in buying them.
I am the owner of 2 cats and take their nutrition as seriously as I would if they were my own human babies. As any pet owner, they rely on us completely, especially when it comes to food and what they eat, so it should be taken seriously. Especially when they are indoor animals, who don’t get as much exercise as I would like mine to get and they can only eat what we give them.
I have so much respect for you. Thank you for making this video.

I just lost my sweet Caique EB on the 19th.. he was approximately 12 and his past owners, however many, really neglect him. A diet of human junk food, and from his vet visit in February we discovered he had proof of a previously broken back, nerve damage, arthritis, neurological damage, a distended crop, an enlarged heart, and digestion issues. For 10 months I gave him the best diet I could (thanks to you and Mrs. p or parrotsrus on instagram) but I think his previous neglect got the best of him. I'm so glad you made this video. It really resonated with me.

Idon't have birds, ive had a few, and ive always wanted a bigger (huge) bird. But after getting married, I know my husband could not be happy with the noise of a bird. In waiting, researching, planning and saving for an umbrella. The process i took in getting ready for the bird i wanted, made me realize I probably wouldn't be happy and neither would my bird. Im very happy that i have you to share all these videos, it lets me have the bird ive always wanted, without hurting myself or the bird by not caring for it the way it should be. Id love to work with birds at some point, ive volunteered t a few bird rehabilitation rescues, and i did really love it. But at the end of the day im happy to be able to turn the noise off. Youre family is amazing, i think ill buy that book, just because its beautifully made with a purpose, and i love learning about ANY animal.
I think it's really great that you did so much research and that you know it isn't the right pet for you. I'm kinda in the same boat. I love birds aswell and have learned so much about them on the internet but I truly don't know if there'll ever comes a time and place for me to own a bird.

I want to thank you so much for posting this video. I am a new Quaker Parrot mommy. When I brought Peanut home the breeder gave me some seed to feed her. She did tell me to feed her pellets. Now she loves pellet and will not eat seeds. She turns her nose up to seeds. She loves fresh green vegetables and the only fruit she will eat is watermelon 🍉 I keep offering fruit to see if she ever eats them. Thank you again and I will check out your books. 👍❤️🦜❤️

@@cjdonald1983 Occasionally is too much. Feeding your parrot greasy pork chops in the amount she gave her birds is a bird's death sentence. Our pet parrots should never be fed like that.
Just wish you had been around when I first got my African Grey, but you probably weren't born. Yogi died in 2004 & I still miss him.

I want a bird so bad, my husband is constantly talking about wanting a bird. But I’m a reptile owner, I know the ends and outs of reptiles and the proper husbandry. Before I ever got my first Chameleon, I researched for years on the proper care. And even though I thought I knew everything there was to know, she still managed to get sick. Luckily I was quick and as soon as I noticed her symptoms I hopped on to a chameleon forum and figured out exactly what was wrong. She was 100% recovered within a week. I’ve made it very clear to my husband that we cannot own a bird until we do the absolute most research on them that we’re confident to get one, but the research will not stop there. I refuse to get an animal that I don’t know almost everything about, I really love your videos and all the knowledge you offer. Thank you so much for bringing these topics to light so that everyone who has/is thinking about getting a bird is aware.

My avian vet had me switch Baby from seeds to nutriberries and pellets when he was 7 years old. I love your recipes! They even look good for people to eat.

I just recently got two budgies from the pet store. I have already changed their diet. I’m giving them a veggie chop in the morning and I am now giving the pellets in the evening. They have taken to it very well. I’m also giving them millets spray treats for training.

Yes! Pet nutrition is SO important for all animals. It's the foundation of their health, which is why I'm starting a new venture in the pet nutrition biz and I MUST get this book to learn more. Plus, my 22 year old cockatiel Billy is a stubborn old man when it comes to diet and he would greatly benefit from it as well.

1 cup of pellets
3 pieces of dry corn
One strawberry
Three blueberries
One carrot
A strip of pepper
Bok choy
Kale
Broccoli
Sweet potato
Sometimes spinach
Watermelon but only as a treat
I'm thinking of sprouts. If I should add anything else please tell me. My bird is a hahn macaw or red shouldered macaw

All fruit should be treated as a treat food, veggies are unlimited. Make sure your brand of pellets is awesome. Many people feed pellets filled with sugars and fillers. Dry corn is unnecessary - fresh is better.
I have a noble macaw, she is a cousin of Hahns. What is are some good pellet brands for her? She hates pellets and i would like to get her on them. Thank you :)

Glad I found this site. I will be taking on my elderly uncles African Grey, Murphy. Murphy isn’t in a good environment now, I’ve already got my great aunts dog, due to her having a stroke. But my very elderly uncle wasn’t ready to let Murphy come back with us, he spends all his time at the nursing home with our aunt. Murphy has an eye infection, however his only sign so far is the swelling, and scratching. We have a lot of behavior issue to deal with as it is...so far we know Murphy is over 20 years old now! So I will be watching this channel a lot!!

About a year ago I wanted to get a bird. I started to watch tour videos and you gave me some excellent advice. I decided against getting the bird and am so glad I did. It takes dedication and time to give them a happy life. I barely cook for myself.

I have 2 cockatials. One had 2 owners before me and was primarily eating seeds refusing vegetables. The person I got him from said that he loves strawberrys but when we tried he refused to eat. I gradually gave him various vegetables. I now make chop as well where I mix different grains to the veggies. Thankfully he is only 2 years old now. I am hoping to have made a difference in his diet.
He was about 9 months when we got him and couldn't even fly 😢 He was living in dimmed/dark room staring at a mirror. İt took a while for him to become a bird. That is one of the reasons we bought the second bird. They are inseparable now, flying around the room every day

my two african grays and a macaw live together in an Irish aviary in the garden. they have grass on the ground and a high common food level. every morning there is a mix of seeds, nuts and grains as well as salads and herbs in the large terracotta bowl. in the afternoon the birds get a boiled egg or a piece of melon or papaya or mango. once a week i sprinkle crushed eggshell/sepia over the food.
I lost my two and a half years old Grey 3 years back. And now i see the problem, i used to feed him on fruits (70% of thr daily diet) thinking it was very healthy. I hv been working and researching since then yo find out the mistake i made. thank you so much for this very important video. No one ever covered the negative impact of fruits on parrot like you did.

Well Jamieliegh, as usual you brought us another great video and people aren't aware that the feed their birds junk or the wrong foods, as some people buy a bird and aren't responsible enough to take care , are to lazy or it doesn't fit in their lifestyle or budget , birds cost money you have the cost of the bird ,it's cage ,food,vet bills, toys, and sometimes a lot of band aids ( for you ) , I started my journey last year I have six birds 3 keets, 2 lovebirds ,and Mad Max an older rescue U-2 Max has issues he's very nervous will tear your finger off or hand , he's a chain saw with feathers and likes to run around the cage with no clothes on we had long talks but doesn't help , Max and I would like to thank you for making people aware that our feathered friends are just that we need to take of our friends and our family ,Gatta go Maaaax ! Dammit that's the second perch today ! 🤗

I'm so sorry you didn't know about it. I often feel awkward talking about things like that because I fear people think I'm just trying to sell something when it's not the case at all so I've always tried to make it fun and cute as a topic in the past but when this came up I was just compelled to make this a serious message.
I don't ever feel like you're ever just pimping your stuff (like others do). Your bird diet info is SO important! People need to understand that they need more than a seed diet. They need to see how to get their birds on veggies. People want fast food for themselves and for their pets. The message needs to get out there that it's doable. Those bowls full of yummy veggies look delicious! I'd eat it!! 😋
