- The fist minute and half of this video I had to add back ground music due to UA-cam blocking it. I was sitting with Max when his grandma called. After talking to her Max and I had a talk. But Max has his own opinion.
"Are you going to be good for your grandma and papi? And your aunt Sheila?"
No reply. This bird will not incriminate himself nor make false promises.
My cats do the same thing.
He sounds like he listened to talk radio alot.

I hope you're doing well. I can relate to you. Trying to work with it while doing college is giving me a hard time, and I just experienced the loss of a pet. It gets rough but using mechanisms like this can help. I'd never get a bird but these guys are really cool and do help lift your spirit

I love that once he does listen and takes it on board that Grandma is visiting he asks "Really?", then later says "Hi" which is what Grandma and he say to each other on the phone. He may not comprehend much but he has the basic ghist of it. Delightful.

I love how you refer to family members to him. My late parents always called my past cats their grand son or grand daughter and considered themselves to my first two cats as grandpa and grandma. So nice to hear how others talk to their pets about their human relatives the same way. My two cats now are my daughter and son. And to people I know my two new kittens almost a year old I refer to them as the kids. And they ask how are the kids. Pets aren't animals to me. They're family.
My daughter's animals are granddog and grand bearded dragon. My cat is my baby. She calls me mommy. Same with my daughter's kids. She's mommy.

He speaks his own personal language much of the time. Sometimes, it sounds like talk from Star Wars, or machinery. He came that way from what I have read. Sometimes he does speak English though LOL. So there really is nothing that has subtitles that would mean anything for most viewers.

Max's first owner had a CB radio playing 24/7 and that is where Max learned the low voiced chatter that he rambles most of the time. Max's current owner learned that information from the second owner and spoke about it in detail on one of his Q&A videos.
The only word I could make out was ‘hi’ and that was just the human😀

I can never get over how precious Max is & how your communication with him is so amazing. More people need to be like this with their parrots instead of having them locked up all day in their cages as decoration. Birds need as much attention as any other animal!
Cockatoos don't fly very much.

If I ever absolutely had to nominate my favourite Max video this would probably be it. It has everything: a quiet thoughtful Max at the beginning, then another hilarious conversation with his daddy and backchat in that incomparable deep voice; then going back into 'hi' mode jumping down and running around while Dan comments on the trail of destruction; then finally clambering up the cage with the promise of dinner ahead. Stellar!

His first owner was an old man who passed away. When max gets mad he says I demand a divorce lol. His 2nd owner was abusive n used to hit Max's cage and cussed at him that's where max gets his cheeky tongue. So max talks like the old man , the jerk and Dan n I'm sure he mocks other ppl as well

matt linthicum That's bevuz he probably heard conversations on the phone and couldn't hear the other side clearly so he's mimicking what he hears. Its common for parrots to do that. My African Grey likes to talk on the phone. He will make the ringing sound then answer it and say "hello". He also will say hello to someone on the telephone, especially his Daddy. Parrots and are awesome family members. I have 3, Zak the African Grey, Indigoblue or just Indy, a Blue & Gold Macaw, & Joey, a Cockatiel. Joey is the only one who doesn't speak. We rescued him so he's not as comfortable being handled either. But the other two are incredible. Research over 20 years shows that African Greys (and most Parrots) have the intellect of a 6 year old child, but the emotional development of a 2 year old. That explains much of their behavior. LOL! Afr. Greys are unique becuz they are much more emotionally tuned into their humans. Other Parrots show differing levels of connectedness with us, but the Grey is way up there. And living with a Grey, I can tell you that its true. Compared to my other Fids(Feathered or Furry Kids), Zak is always more intouch with whatever emotion is happening. BUT having said that, if there is any Parrot that would be on par with the emotional aspect, it would definitely be the Cockatoo like Max. Cockatoos are called 'velcro birds' becuz they LOVE being on their human.... ALL THE TIME. So, back to what I was saying; The research also shows that they know what they are saying and uae language to communicate just like we do. But they also will babble when they don't know the right words, and make up words/sounds just like kids do. And research also shows that at least some of the time when you hear them speak garbled its becuz they are practicing new words/phrases. They will usually do this when they are alone or in a small space. And a good rule of thumb is: if you thought you heard your bird say something, he probably did. It sounds garbled to us, but they know what they're saying and eventually you'll hear it and be able to understand it. Anyway, just wanted to comment. I love Mr. Max! He's funny and should be called Mr. Personality! And tho we can't always understand him, his Daddy understands him very well! Just like little children, others may not understand what they are saying but the parents do becuz they are around them all day.

That voice is actually Max imitating the receiving end of the phone conversation. A good friend of mine has 7 Grey's . Some of the adopted which came from an abusive household.The one would Imitate the male and the female owners abusive fight even the sound of her falling down the stairs and screaming " I'm going to call my lawyer!" lol The others would sing the Star Wars Theme song. But that Robot voice is for sure his phone voice of the Grandma.

"Stargate" (and sometimes "Star Trek"), "celery" and "sorry" seem to be his favorite words when he's talking in that low, chanting voice. 😉 Aw, Max, you're so sweet. Thank you, Max and Dan for making me smile; I desperately needed that today. ❤️🐦❤️
