  • Samsung SmartThings Updates and New Features || Local Automation, New Interfaces, More!
Let me show you some incredible new ways that Samsung SmartThings has given us for controlling your smart home with SmartThings! This is a very exciting time, and I'm excited to share these new updates, new features, and even a few new products for your SmartThings home automation system.
This will definitely give you some of the best smart home ideas yet, especially when you look at the new interface available at my.smartthings.com/ and inside of the new Windows 10 SmartThings app. I'll show you how both of those can become really powerful, and if you're really thinking, you might just go get a new Fire HD tablet and start using that website.
The biggest SmartThings news to my home is definitely SmartThings local control, which you can now get as a part of the SmartThings beta. Here's where you can go to put the beta on your hub (it'll take a bit to get into the program) - smartthings.centercode.com/ke...
However, the biggest #SmartThings news for you is likely the fact that the Matter standard is coming (previously called CHIP) and it will likely be included on the SmartThings V3 Hub, as well as the new Aeotec SmartThings Hub (get one here: popp.to/?ref=AYL - affiliate link). I think that we'll see backwards compatibility, and even see the SmartThings hub you have in your home become a Matter certified controller and a Matter bridge to your ZigBee and Z-Wave networks.
At the end of today's #update and new #features video, I show you 2 videos to watch. The first one is so you can learn about the Matter standard and the products I think will work with it: • Will a New Standard Na...
The second video is a comparison of all the big wireless technologies you might have heard about and have considered using in your #smarthome. It's Zigbee vs Z-Wave vs Wi-Fi vs Thread vs Bluetooth vs Matter: • ZigBee vs Z-Wave vs Wi...
Oh, you might need that Hub if you can't find it. So here: geni.us/AeotecSmartThingsHub (Amazon affiliate link) or here: popp.to/?ref=AYL (affiliate link) and use code AUTOMATEYOURLIFE for 2% off
The other Aeotec Sensors are now available too, here:

SmartThings Door Sensor - geni.us/SmartThingsDoorAYL (Amazon affiliate link)
SmartThings Button - geni.us/SmartThingsButtonAYL (Amazon affiliate link)

No SmartThings Lab in the UK that I can find. Have a home care wizard, cooking and clothing apps added but I can’t find Labs. After building my hopes up I get crashed and burnt just like when I got married lol.

it's really comfortable to listen to you. While there is often a language barrier based on pronunciation (from my point of view with my moderate English), your videos are really understandable paired with good presentation, especially due to the fact, that the SmartThings-World here is not enrolled so much, you really depend on English. So thank you for the vid

Thanks Brian. Good UI's are important (to me, especially for mass, big screen views / mass maintenance capabilities), so I hope this gets us there. I always have a hard time building and reorganizing things off a small phone. But my main interest is if/when the ST hub will allow localizing the code currently in IDE. I will say a lot more has been localized in last year or so (like standard device drivers) which has increased reliability of ST. So, maybe I won't yet fully abandon ST to my other hubs :)

It sounds like SmartThings is finally becoming a real competitor to Home Assistant for local control.

Great video, Brian, and very informative. SmartThings and the word "upgrades" don't sit very well with me as they seem incapable of making it easy for folks to shift from one generation of hubs to another. I'll bet the Aeotec hub will be just as difficult for us ST version 2 hub owners. Let's hope Samsung makes things easier than they have in the past. Speaking of hubs, have you given up on Hubitat? I have one along with my ST v2 and it works well and is very fast.

Thanks for the video. I wasn't aware that we now have a Windows 10 Smartthings app. Have installed it on my Dell laptop and everything works great.

Great to see that SmartThings is still developing inspite of the step back from creating hardware

As usual great video Brian ! Could you please confirm that this “local “ fracture is available in Canada ? I keep waiting to see that in my iPhone app but I can’t find it yet … there is no L on my automations … thank you

Great video! I have been thinking about the upgrade to the V3 Smartthings hub for a little while now. I do have on question I am hoping you can help me out with. If I upgrade to the V3, will my devices and automations transfer to the new hub or will I have to set them up again? The thought of that daunting task in really the only thing holding me up. Thank for making the great videos and keep up the good work.

Any suggestions on where to buy a smartthings hub in Canada? Is it better to wait for the Aeotec to become available?
