Completely missed this. I knew about the DVD but not the video. But as insane as they are, I wouldn't miss much as I can't really connect with them anymore, especially the latest album.

I am sorry to hear that they are losing you. Hopefully they can get you back with their next efforts. What bands are you listening to now?

@@MattsMoshPit1 Currently the new Illumishade, Blackbriar, the latest Brand Of Sacrifice Ep, Stellvris, some Ice Nine Kills, Architects... I'd say more melodic stuff in general. Jinjer became too technical for me at some point.

The only band I am not familiar with is Architects. I have heard the name, but never listened. What songs should I check out?

@@MattsMoshPit1 Where to start? 🤔 They have evolved their style a lot since they started... They're more melodic and radio friendly at the moment. But my absolute favourite is their live album from Abbey Road with an orchestra. Impermanence off of that album is great, try that one.

I had somehow completely missed this. Great performance! I know Tatiana always gets the spotlight and everyone talks how awesome she is - and deservedly so! But I'm happy you mentioned Eugene, this guy is a freaking tank and has quickly become one of my favourite bassists. Headless basses cost quite a bit, afaik their main advantage is that they're lighter, cause usually a headstock adds a certain weight at the end of the neck, especially if you're like Eugene here or Lauri Porra and play a 5-string or anything that's more than a 4. If you're going to learn, get something affordable that will allow you to learn the bass-ics.
Speaking of Lauri - he is my favourite bass player and, in addition to being a great composer, he plays for Stratovarius and his basslines are very deceptive, looking straightforward enough at first but full of little fills, changes and other surprises. Try adding some of the following to your list: "Broken" or "Unbreakable" (official videos), or the classic "Black Diamond" (live in Tampere 2011). I am admittedly on a combined Stratovarius, Insomnium and Swallow the Sun binge :D

Awesome, thank you for the insight on the headless bass’s. I actually have a Jackson bass. It’s the same style that Dave Eleffson from Megadeth (former) plays. I am not a fan of Megadeth, I just thought it looked cool and was in the right price range. I tried to learn a few times. Now it’s on a wall in my studio. Also thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely add them to my list.

@@MattsMoshPit1 Just looked Ellefson's bass up, it looks great. The bass you already have is better than any bass you might buy, in fact it's the best, cause it's already there! In case you ever want to give it another go, BassBuzz has been my number one resource.

I wish I could understand what it is about this band that everybody else loves so much because to me this is meh at best. I have even seen them live at two festivals and left after a couple of songs. Wish I could hear what everybody else seems to hear 🤣.

That is something, that I might open up for discussion on my channel. Through the years there have been a ton of bands that “everyone loved” and all signs pointed to me loving, but I just didn’t get it. Sometimes it just wasn’t meant to be. Also you might find them again later in life and get whatever it is. Judas Priest was like that for me. In theory I should have loved Judas Priest when I was a young, but it came off kind of cheesy and I couldn’t get past Rob’s voice. Cut to 35 years later, I gave them another shot and now I get it and understand and even have tickets to see them soon. But no worries there are so many other bands out there to choose from.

you are not alone. In my case literally no one of my offline buddies likes Jinjer. Including few metalheads.
There's only one friend who appreciates the skills of the band members but doesn't really love their music because of the heaviness. He's more into soft jazz, like Postmodern Jukebox.
I could agree with Matt. If you are dedicated music lover and pushing the boundaries of your music tastes it's possible that some day later you'll find this music more interesting. I faced this kind of situation several times in my life.

Hey, sometimes we just don't like things. That's absolutely fine. You've given their music a chance and it doesn't work for you, this is completely normal. That's like me and black metal, or Richard Wagner. Sometimes it just isn't working for you, what are you going to do. ❤
