This IS Marko's song, I guess technically his and Tuomas Wäinölä's (the guitarist of his band), and is very much in tune with Marko's solo work and Tarot. The synth specifically somehow reminds me a lot of "Angels of Pain" from the Tarot album Stigmata, despite being much slower. I don't know why anyone expected this to sound like Nightwish, Marko's own music has never sounded like that. I, for one, like it so much as it is, that riff has been stuck in my head for days, and I love that fill Marko does on his Vampyre in the beginning! I don't know if there is any need to comment on the vocals, two legendary singers who have a history of sounding great - and a newfound friendship between themselves to strenghten this collaboration, how could it be anything but great?
Marko already has one or two solo albums out, depending on how you see it, it's the same album once in Finnish and once in English. He's been working on new music but I have seen conflicting info from less than reliable sources on when he will release a new album, so I will not be repeating any of it. However I also heard he'll be featured on Tarja's new album that's in the works, so there is a part two of awesomeness coming....at some point.

Thanks for the reaction. I love this duet. And Tarja and the sci-fi theme. I can't resist that. I know Marko's work, and this is exactly the style of music he makes. I'm glad neither of them copy Nightwish's music and both go their own artistic way.. Last year, after the two met in Switzerland and sang Phantom of the Opera together, Marko asked Tarja to sing with him in Left on Mars. In return, he promised to sing on any of her songs that she requested. So yes, we will soon get another duet, this time Tarj featuring Marko Hietala. Tarja is to release a new rock album this year. Neither of them are ruling out or confirming a joint album or project. The two will have another tour together this year.
On their current tour they play two original Nightwish songs, songs from their solo repertoire, some of which are duets, a cover Phantom of the Opera by Webber, Gary Moore's Over the Hills and Far Away and this new song Left on Mars

It's an awesome song ! I'm glad Marko and Tarja are doing something unexpected and don't follow the "Nightwish formula". Tarja's solo stuff has been more symphonic rock than symphonic metal anways. And marko and tarja sound especially good together, their voices been made to match ♡
Actually TARJAS vast diverse solo career has lot's harder metal than this. ☮☮💘💘
That isn't true tho. All of her "rock" albums are traditional Metal albums, with classical elements.
The only album she released with a "softer" approach (aside from her strictly classical records) was her debut "My Winter Storm". "What Lies Beneath", "Colours In The Dark", "The Shadow Self" and "In The Raw", are Metal records, with a metal approach on guitars.
The only "symphonic rock" songs she may have are... "Never Enough", and maybe "No Bitter End", and that's it.

In the description for tarja on spotify it says symphonic rock and i fèel like i remember her saying she's doing more rock songs in her solo stuff but i dont know enough about these genres to differentiate with sny confidence so maybe her music does have more metal than rock 😊

Tarja's solo stuff is more rock nowadays. There are still symphonic metal elements in her songs, I am sure that’s always going to be part of her😁
I love seeing Marko and Tarja perform together again!🥰 It is so heart-warming. I am really glad that they are friends again and they seem to have a really good and sweet connection.
Marko said that he and Tarja made a gentleman's agreement, Tarja sang in this and Marko said that whatever she does next, he'll be there. He'll sing another duet with her. This song will be on Marko's new album, but that will come out yearly next year. They'll make another duet for Tarja's new rock album that is suppose to be coming out this year but there have been rumours circling around that maybe her album has also gotten postponed a bit for next year.

They have done some RJ concert shows ... together some 3 years already...but this is a bit more. Those RJ concerts are during christmas and they sing heavy style christmas songs (originally classic hymns)...tuned for them. Check also them ...like "Ave Maria" and many more. Yes...between 2000...2005 they made NW global leader...and now Marco wanted to get his long lost friend back to his music and to do this with his current band.

I know that Marko is closing in on being 60 years old, I think he is 58, as I am 66. I think as Marko has spent a lot of years as a kid listening to many of the same bands that I did back in the 1970's, like Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, maybe some Boston, Ozzy, AC\DC, Pink Floyd, some Metalica....etc! The first time I heard this song, I heard some Led Zeppelin, I think that's the reason why I fell in love with the song on the first time hearing it! It's already on my "Need to buy" this album!

This vocal duo is iconic. They used to be my everything when I was a kid, that's where it all started back in the day. My taste has changed a lot since, idgaf about Nightwish and rarely listen to Tarja anymore but this is a huge thing even though not my style at all. Just hearing their magnificent voices on a new track... I had never thought I'd hear them together again but here we are. Super excited to see their special show in May. I have seen Tarja performing The Phantom on so many occasions but this is gonna be on another level.
So you're going to Metalfest too? I look forward it. I saw Tarja last year at the Masters of Rock and Dark Christmas concert. She is great. I will see Marko live for the first time. I returned to Tarja and NW 2 years ago and also discovered Marko's Tarot and solo.
@@PetraPola Yes, I'm going to Metalfest. I've seen Tarja at least 10 times at this point, most recently about 2 years ago, but I can feel how I'm drifting away from her style more and more each time (and that kind of music in general). It's more about nostalgia and her stage presence/personality rather than music now. Nightwish three times I think (2x Anette, 1x Floor) but I haven't been following them for years now. But I'm excited to hear some of the old NW tracks with Tarja and Marco on vocals. It's gonna bring all the memories from my childhood back.
That is Awesome, that you found old friends. For me I am still waiting for my old friends to make something good again, but so far the outlook is not good. My all time favorite band is Bon Jovi. They were my first concert. The last few albums have been unlistenable for a life long fan. The just released a new song and it’s not the worst I have heard from them, but not anything I would listen to again. I know my music tastes have changed a lot, so maybe it’s me. I am not sure.
@@veronikavalachova8372 I know what you mean. I basically stopped listening to metal for a long time and got back to it two years ago thanks to her last rock album. But it's true, taste in music changes over time. Although I love old NW music, I am much more looking forward to Marko & Tarja possible new stuff. I hope that Tarja will present a new duet featuring Marko there. And I also hope that we will have beautiful weather at Metalfest. Last year at the Masters of Rock, we almost burned to death, we had to be cooled down by the firemen.

It's a good Marko song, but not the song we expect from this combination. Only the Nightwish shadow justifies the hype.
Marko's voice fits many women's voices. He sings relatively high and sounds rough due to an unsuccessful vocal cord operation. This makes him the ideal duet partner. A comparison with other male voices:

The song goes under Marko's name. There will probably be a second solo album.
There are no pros when it comes to growing a beard. Your wife decides the length of your beard ;-) The beard should match your appearance. What do you associate with Marko's beard and do you want to appear like that? Who do you want people to think you are?

I think these two artists are enough to get many people interested in the song - "Nighwish shadow" is not necessary needed. (E.g. before I had even heard about NW I was listening to Tarot.)
You are right about Marko's voice fitting may women's voices. IMO, his voice sounds best with dark female voices (like Tarja).
@@larryzigler6812 The duet before that was Phantom of the Opera, which alluded to their best duet on Nightwish. The song here is enriched with orchestra, which is atypical for Marko's solo work. This also alludes to Nightwish. One must willfully overlook the connection to Nightwish.
@@osk9013 Both are excellent singers and also have good songs without Nightwish, but their most famous and successful songs were with Nightwish. The reason is Tuomas because he composes a class better than most composers. This song also doesn't have the class of Tuomas.
