The new Cervelo Soloist I had built up was out on her virgin ride yesterday, Oct 22, 2022. Reasonable distance of 65 miles under the belt, I had some thoughts to share.

Your an absolute Legend DC staying out in those conditions.....Very, Very, Very, Very...Cliffhanger.....Positive !!!! You explaining the Placebo effect as well as knowing very well that to truly understand and appreciate something "new bike" to its fullest takes time and patience. Incredible job filming while still participating in your group ride and as always I look forward to your words and thoughts.
Sir, you are too kind. Thank you!
I love my soloist in embers colorway! Sucks that i've only put 500kms on it before it started snowing here in Canada but I'm definitely loving the bike so far. As a first carbon bike, I definitely think I've made the right decision in getting the soloist.
Love the videos! And I'm looking forward to the full review!
Jon! Thanks for your time watching and them kind words! Canada winter, BRRRR! You don't need my review, you've ridden one! :)
Let’s go DC! I know you were gonna like it! Just did 61 miles on mines today. I’m convinced the more we ride the more we will enjoy it! Thanks for the cliff hanger…lol 😂
A previous Cervelo rider, I am. A bit biased perhaps LOL...
Cool review look forward to the full review.
Thanks for your review and keep us updated. I am looking forward going more into detail what you like/ dislike in particular
:)
I've been splitting time between this and my other 3 bikes after getting done with the China project. I have a good base for my thoughts and opinions to be based off of but still would like to log more miles to make sure I know everything about it for a review vid. I promise I will as soon as I can. Thanks for the kind words!
So cool! Was hoping for positive feedback! I like you saw the frame set so reasonable I am putting the final touches on building up this bike. Trying to determine which handlebars and wheels are the only question marks left which of course are pretty significant question marks. Thus far, est. weight coming in at 6.9 kg.per the bike shop. I am not a gear head "at all" these are the numbers given and I am jacked about it! Cheers! Looking forward to more extensive review and thanks again for your channel. Really appreciated.
Gerry! Pumped to hear you have one built up! 6.9 sounds like an awesome build!
Hey Gerry! Do you mind sharing what components you're using to hit 6.9kg?? I'm looking to build a soloist as light as possible and that's the best weight I've heard so far! Congrats on the build, cheers
@Gerry Lerner I am curious in the specs of your 6.9kg build as well. I am looking to build a 51cm in the near future. Please share.

Hi Guys, this is where I'm at with bike shop. It bears repeating I am the furthest thing from a gear head. Just an old guy who loves to smash the petals. My last conversation with my guy had the weight at 6850 grams. Now, there are two caveats I've stumbled across since my post. First, bike shop estimate $ was about $2k under where it came out putting it within spitting distance of an R5 decked out. Second was took a size 54 Soloist for a ride around the corner the other day and had my 1st encounter with toe overlap. Might be resolvable with new shoe and shorter crank it was a 172.5. Anyway, I'm totally confused now because $ is where it is and if were to spring for that amount and this being my one and done... would the R5 be a better choice for me? Hope build (below) helps provide some ideas and direction. It's not a final build for me but got me most of the way there.

@@bozidar753 Cheers! I thought as much...
I have the Soloist built up with SRAM Force. I’ll reserve my impressions of it after you post your full review of it but I currently have the R5 and S5 to compare it against so I’ll have some opinions on how it does compared to those two bikes. I will say one thing about it and that is it is very comfortable compared to the S5 but comparable to the R5 in that category. Probably not a shock to anyone.
Scott also look forward to your thoughts. Cheers!
Scott!! Forget my review... You are the one with an authoritative view on this with your Trifecta! I can't say I'm not jealous...
Looking forward to the full review. Thinking seriously of buying this frame.
Don't wait. Go get one now if you have the means and need one. (spoiler perhaps)
Looking forward to the full review
I lusted after the SLC and SLC-SL in college. Hell, still wouldn't mind having them today if it wasn't for the seatpost issues.
Strongly considering getting the Soloist. It seems to do everything well, is comfortable, and aero enough at a great price point
I built a Soloist with SRAM red 1x and some Reserve 52/63 on DT 240 . I also am running a METRON 5D ACR bar. I used a modified R5 top cap for a cleaner look.
Oh god the elusive 52/63 I've been looking for yet can't find anywhere!!!
I also have a set of 52/63 with DT180 hubs on my Cervelo S5.
@@gordon5008 How are the 52/63? I have been wanting to test those, just can't get a hold of cleanly.
I prefer them to my Zip 404s and Enve 6.7s .
They are very good I'm crosswinds for their depth and hold speed very well.
Hi DC, I really enjoy your videos on bike tech but also the video production. Just curious what kit your using ie camera’s, mounts, drone type etc
Hi Sulio. For photos, I use a bunch of Sonys and a Fuji. For videos, more complicated. I take a full mirrorless with me when I can. Usually I take along a small camera for 24p and 120p on-the-go shooting. GoPros are in play of course but I don't use those much.
interested in your thoughts on that vs your factor
2 very different bikes yet 2 very similar bikes.... More on this later.
Was never tempted by all the one piece bar and stem aero bikes but this or the new propel are definitely interesting....
You can put want bar or stem you want on this
@@Shadowboost And that's exactly why riders like him/her and I like bikes like the resurrected Soloist. I hate bikes that don't give the freedom of running whatever cockpit we want.
Nice review on a windy day
BRO! Thanks for helping me shoot! You show up a few times in this episode, too LOL
Anytime, looking forward to you next review.
Glad you're liking the Soloist. LMK if you decide to sell the Price.
The thought did cross my mind. What area are you based out of?
Lubbock, TX
잘보고 갑니다 ^^
들려주셔서 감사합니다~~~
Hi love the white i have something for white frames
Btw i tagged you on my prince 7kg build did you see it 😁?
on IG?
Hey mate, great video. With your setup, what is the size and weight of your bike?
Hi. I don't recall the exact numbers. (I don't give too much emphasis on weight) If I remember correctly, battle ready weight including pedals, cages, computer mount etc was like hair under 18 lbs with C36 and just barely touching 18 lbs with C50 wheels. But don't hold me to the numbers, I just don't remember LOL... ah size 51 mine is.
Nice sunglasses 🕶. Where can I get them?
Couldn't remember where if I tried LOL, old man memory
Inverse wind is tough when riding 🚴 alone🥹
It was hella rough
Is it compatible with the fsa ACR system to route the brake hoses internally?
If FSA has matching headset bearing dimensions with the Soloist's (check the bike's manual on Cervélo's website), it might be possible.
If it is, even FSA's SMR stem should be enough. You just want the shift and brake lines to be hidden from the wind. No need for an ACR unit.
Technically it is compatible, but there isn't a Soloist specific ACR cone spacer at the moment so you would need a DIY solution. The soloist has the same FSA IS2 headset that the Caledonia S uses and that has a ACR adapter, but when I reached out to see if anything was in the works for the Soloist I was told there are no plans yet. I'm going to 3d print a custom spacer once I figure out the height I need for mine.
@@BrianMcDonald I just got a response from FSA, I was told they are planning to release the ACR cone spacers that Jumbo Visma Academy team is using by early next year.
And Cervelo said they're working on a completely integrated system for the bike that can be purchased as an after market kit too.
Until then, DIY seems to be the only way to go. Please let me know how's it going with your custom made solution. 🙌
@@yeungline Glad to hear both are changing the tune they provided when the bike first came out. I'm doing some prototyping now but I need to figure out my fit before I make the final piece.
I used a modified R5 top cap and it looks and works better than the set up in the video.
Looks pretty nice, but it’s a kg heavier than my 2004 titanium race bike with 7800 Dura ace and it doesn’t seem as aerodynamic! Also it’s twice as expensive!😱
So no way you will see me on a “plastic bike” with squeezing disc brakes.
People shouldn’t follow every hype of the bike industry,in the first place they’re created to maximize their revenue
I couldn't agree more. Matter of fact, I utter those exact words in one of my episodes. ua-cam.com/video/VR947iTjSOs/v-deo.html
There isn't a single titanium road bike more aero than this unless you have a custom English. The extra kg comes from disc vs rim. That's it. It would be lighter than your Ti bike, much much faster, and much stiffer in rim format
