It's all about taking action and experiencing the joy of riding your bike. Speaking of which, have you heard about the new project I found? It's called the Morph eBike by freebeat, and it's truly a game-changer. Not only does it offer an exhilarating riding experience with its powerful motor and impressive suspension, but it also has a unique indoor recharge feature. My top two favorite insights: 3:40 “No, people don’t need top shelf, what they really need is anything, and anything tuned well” 4:08 “The best bikes don’t get purchased and ridden out the door-the best bikes get purchased, ridden some, considered and then modified accordingly”
Just turned 87 this September. Been riding forever. A lifetime sport. Just traded my Lemond Zurich for a rather expensive Specialized eBike. Bought this for an expected move to a home up a long, steep hill in Washington state. That changed, but here in Tucson, Arizona I ride this one daily for 90 minutes up and down a local highway. Traffic zooms by at 65 mph, but you have to just accept it as part of the game. After my Dutch wife died, I traveled to Holland and rented a bike at a local bike shop. Rode that bike all over that great country. A very bicycle friendly country. Fietspads everywhere.
@@timyaiser Yes, but I live on the NW side, at Oracle Junction, where Hwy 77 meets Hwy 79. This time of year, I am out at 5:30 am because of the heat. 🙋♂

That is so true. I'm just a casual commuting utilitarian cyclist in rural Ireland but it's great to get out on my pretty basic Merida hybrid covered in racks and bags and mirrors and lights and all sorts of accessories that make it uniquely and wonderfully my own and do whatever I have to do instead of taking the car. Put one of my three trailers on and do the weekly household shopping, take the lawnmower in for a service, pick up 50 litres of tractor diesel. But as I'm getting older and had some coronary issues recently and developing arthritis in both knees and a hip I'm not going to apologise when I either add an electric conversion or/and get a full e-bike. Even without those reasons there's so much more I could do and further I could go with a little bit of "e"! And I do also own and need a car.
I was in a car accident when I was 16. A guy had come out of nowhere and turned our car into a "U" shape. My step mom, who was driving, died instantly. From then on, I stopped wanting to drive. I go by bus and bike. Once covid hit, I didn't ride for the entirety of 2020 and 2021. I am getting back into it, and learning more about bikes in the process. It's funny really, I have rode all my life, and yet you would be surprised at how much I don't know. I am learning so much. I feel like this is the lifestyle I want.
My friend was t-boned by a drunk driver and was ok but he has a similar disdane for all things 4 wheels and the absolute rubbish of training and responsibility of car drivers. Another neighbor doesnt ride in cars - ever! I've never asked why but really do you need a reason to just bike. My 23 year old daughter just bought a brand new 1993 trek. It was hardly ever ridden. She tuned it and they are now together on an adventure in Europe.
“The best bikes don’t get purchased and ridden out the door-the best bikes get purchased, ridden some, considered and then modified accordingly” TRUE. There's nothing quite like the feeling of riding a bike that's put together well. When you also find that perfect asphalt to ride on, with the wind in your back, it's like flying.

This man has 100% correct beliefs - biking should be about getting more buts on the saddles out there. Keep the top shelf stuff for the top 1%, and don't make people feel left out because they can't afford!
Ha! I used to draw manufacturer symbols! The Kona splat, Cannondale, Orange, GT, Trek, Specialized, Scott... I love bikes. Modifying, repairing, building, fettling and of course riding. The feeling of freedom and peace that lasts long after the ride is finished. The feeling of speed under your own steam. To rest atop a mountain or next to a river or just a Cafe before beginning the journey home, Bliss.
"Ride your bike, don't just romance the idea", very well said brother. You did a great job putting this video together, Amen. You just got me pumped up and spirit alive again to hit some single track!!!
Love it! Just ride! It's the best thing you can do as an old fart for your heart and health.....for your pocket book....for the environment. My commuter is an 80's rebuilt girls MTB. Nothing fancy, just an old bike nobody wanted that I added a little love and attention. Now it is my best friend.
I started cycling at 8 and never stopped, 65 now and cycling about 6000 miles in 2021, I hope to double this in 2022, god willing. What he says about being part of the machine is so true....I still love cycling . I have been on a team for two years, pro/am...raced even along side of Greg Lemond, in fla once...got pictures with him. Raced in ironman competitions for many years and now, i just might do a race in my age soon....lol Love this guy in the movie.... I know what hes talking about, cus i even owned a bicycle shop for 5 years in my early life ...
Damn, at the end of the video, a small man's tear rolled down my cheek. I look like a dinosaur in this country, I am grateful to UA-cam and this person who showed me that I am doing well. ...it's not normal to live in a country where there are no bike paths and no cycling culture...
My favorite bike is the one I'm riding! They all have their own story in feel and rideability, 40-year cyclist! I own 14 assorted bicycles and love every one of them!
Perfect little film, such a breath of fresh air from the bs we are bombarded with today. “Get out and ride” no greater words spoken. Never forget 80% rider- 20% bike.
This film beautifully captures how Ian's passion transforms routine maintenance into an expression of artistry and dedication, offering a compelling look at the unsung heroes behind the scenes of every cyclist's journey.
I've loved riding since I was 5 years old. I'm 60yo and I ride 10-20 miles every day, weather permitting. One of the greatest joys and pleasures in life! I have a 15+yo Gary Fisher mountain bike that fits me like a glove and is just an extension and expression of myself. I hope to keep it rolling forever! Beautiful little film! TY
Amen Brother! Amen! I'm getting ready to dig into my old '97 Schwinn Moab 2. Derailleurs (Shimano Rapid Fire, front and back) need a bit of finer tuning. Can imagine giving it over to a bike shop, so am doing the work myself. Believe at the most it's a cable change and an adjust. Oh, and for the record...I believe that he's living my dream! GIVE IT BACK! LOL!!!
"Ride your bike" is the best quote ever and don't get stuck in one discipline otr way to ride as I was before when doing triathlon! After retiring of it I really discover the joy to ride by commuting, touring and just for fun 🤙
Happy to say that I was able to make the pilgrimage with the family to Sad Hill last week. I am so. happy to have the chance to gone and share the experience with my family.
Just great... Particularly your current location... Tumut.... Grew up on a grazing property, about an hour away... Tumbarumba... Whole family, always bike mad.... Dad stopped riding at the age of 88.... I now reside in Tweed Heads.... Have not owned a car for over 12 years.... But, currently own 3 bikes, about to purchase another!!! So, terrific movie, on so many levels... Rock on....
I'm leaving in 10hrs for a ride across the USA. Virginia to Oregon. Can't sleep... Watching videos about riding bikes. I've got issues only a bike ride can solve my friends.
Totally agree about just getting out and riding. Too many think they will be judged for the equipment they own. I have yet to meet a fellow rider who cares. They all just love to ride and enjoy others doing the same.
Damn, at the end of the video, a small man's tear rolled down my cheek. I look like a dinosaur in this country, I am grateful to UA-cam and this person who showed me that I am doing well. ...it's not normal to live in a country where there are no bike paths and no cycling culture...
Holy crap ,a straight shooter. How refreshing. In a time when bikes are being out priced from the average person this beautiful to see. The only difference between a good bike and a bad bike is if you ride it.
I love my midnight special! Same bike. Everything this guy is saying rings so true as having worked as mechanic. As an American traveling in the Netherlands experiencing their glorious infrastructure, I'm sad to see and hear that more and more people here are driving cars instead of riding bikes. Don't do that! Some are working hard to get more people on bikes in the US.
Indeed, so true: just ride. Someone once told me there are no bad, good or superb guitars. Only bad, good or superb guitar players. The hands, the movements, the technique and of course the inspiration of the player make a guitar sound bad, good or superb. So, just ride.
Nice video.I have mentioned to multiple people. "I don't know what I would be doing if I didn't find cycling" and What ever I was doing before, I am not going back. Enjoy the ride!
I got diagnosed with parkinsons and dusted off my 11 year old Specialized Crosstrail Sport and ride pretty much every day now. It's changed my life. Doesn't matter how old it is, it still does the job and I'll keep it going for a long as it holds up
My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s two years ago. He has now left his teaching job and is opening a bike shop. He notices when he does not get enough exercise because his tremors are worse and he is more stiff. We are prioritizing exercise (and biking is a big part of it) as we grow older. It is essential.
Cycling saved and changed my life forever! Every ride is an adventure... commuting to work. For short and long touring rides. Hot or snowy cold days. I still manage to came home feeling like i'm in my young years(i'm almost a 50 yrs old dude).Long live to the bicycle world!!!
I possesed a Miyata710 back from 1983 ,it is on the indoor trainer now . I owned 2 Marinoni's 1steel frame from 1990 in show room condition, 1carbon from 2008 ,a caad 10 ,and a cannondale tandem thar i bought in 2017 . Whitout cycling i would be dead. I'm cycling 8,000kms a year more or less. I'm 69 and gonna be on a bike until the end !
Cycling has become more than a sport I practice. It is now my life style. I cycle to work almost every day and I go for longer rides twice or three times a week. It is not about hom many kilometers I ride, but how much fun I have. I put on my earphones, get on the saddle and feel the joy and freedom.
What a breath of fresh air. I've always thought of bikes as human-powered machines too. This dude gets it. There is no other freeing feeling I can find that comes close to riding.
Great little movie. People over complicate riding a bike. I do between 1000km and 2000km a month on a bike. I ride 65km to go to work (electric) and leave at 4.30 in the morning. You see plenty of wildlife and the sunrise is always perfect. In winter my nose is freezing, but couldn't care less. That one morning an owl following along makes all the harsh mornings fall in to place. Keep it low tech, keep it simple, just do it. Good luck with the shop. Blessings from Belgium.
I miss living in Germany where I commuted with my bike no matter the weather. 45 minutes one way. Had a coworker/neighbor one day challenge me because I said it’s only a few minutes longer than with a car. He said he could beat me by fifteen minutes or more. He beat me by fourteen. He said if traffic had been better he would have won. I said even if he had, my mind was in a better place than his because I didn’t get stressed by traffic I enjoyed my ride! I miss that!
I can 100% identify with this film, most of the time I use my bikes for urban transport and I don't have a single new bike, I keep my old ones alive and they ride very smoothly.... Too many bikes? n+1........😄
Thank you, I'm in my early 20's and I've always been wanting to just go cross country and enjoy the freedom, bikes are such wonderful machines to enjoy that happiness we all look for.

Wonderful! Beautiful!
Wow major props to you. Im actualy very motivated by this comment
Damn, at the end of the video, a small man's tear rolled down my cheek.
I look like a dinosaur in this country, I am grateful to UA-cam and this person who showed me that I am doing well.
...it's not normal to live in a country where there are no bike paths and no cycling culture...
Best film I’ve seen all year
My favorite bike is the one I'm riding! They all have their own story in feel and rideability, 40-year cyclist! I own 14 assorted bicycles and love every one of them!
Now I got someone familiar 😃
Also the great thing about riding bikes is that it's many things to many people 🚲🚲
Perfect little film, such a breath of fresh air from the bs we are bombarded with today.
I love It! Only a cyclist knows the feeling. Big thanks from Brazil.
Thank you for watching! 😊
Watching from Brazil too.
Agreed 100%
at 73 years old I ride my bikes every other day and enjoy restoring bikes and bike maintenance
TY
I wish I had a fraction of his passion for anything.
The best bikes don't get purchased and ridden out the door....ridden some, considered and modified accordingly. That is so good and true 👍
Such an amazing person. Rider, Technician all together. Brilliant.
Rock on....
Recently started riding....and this is not just a video it's an emotion. #Respect from India
Wonderful Bike Story !!
That ending just gave me goose bumps. Beautiful - from the technical and the storytelling party!
I'm leaving in 10hrs for a ride across the USA. Virginia to Oregon. Can't sleep... Watching videos about riding bikes. I've got issues only a bike ride can solve my friends.
Are you going to present this on your channel? The experience?
I don't have a channel set up. Just taking pics and vids on my phone. It's been a great experience so far. Meeting some great people.
Totally agree about just getting out and riding. Too many think they will be judged for the equipment they own. I have yet to meet a fellow rider who cares. They all just love to ride and enjoy others doing the same.
Brilliant!, emotional, motivating!
Tom Byrne
This film and this guy are absolute gems. Loved it.
“I have too many bikes”, said no true bicycle enthusiast ever.😏
It’s more like, “I need one of those. . . and one of those too!”😁
Sweet short film!!👍🏼
Damn, at the end of the video, a small man's tear rolled down my cheek.
I look like a dinosaur in this country, I am grateful to UA-cam and this person who showed me that I am doing well.
...it's not normal to live in a country where there are no bike paths and no cycling culture...
Spirit up bro💪, same with me here😁
it's normal, but very hard 😔 Together we make this culture)
What a bloody legend.
Love my pushies - once they're under your skin they never leave you.
What an inspiring video for biking 🚴👏👏👏
Glad you think so!
Holy crap ,a straight shooter. How refreshing. In a time when bikes are being out priced from the average person this beautiful to see. The only difference between a good bike and a bad bike is if you ride it.
I say what I mean and mean what I say. ID of BRT
A beautiful short film featuring a very interesting guy-and now I am going out for a ride-just because I can.
Couldn't express my love of cycling better...
Amazing, no comments, simple but still very profound 🙏
Nice video.I have mentioned to multiple people. "I don't know what I would be doing if I didn't find cycling" and What ever I was doing before, I am not going back. Enjoy the ride!
I got diagnosed with parkinsons and dusted off my 11 year old Specialized Crosstrail Sport and ride pretty much every day now. It's changed my life.
Doesn't matter how old it is, it still does the job and I'll keep it going for a long as it holds up
Awesome!! Great for the mind, body and soul. Stay strong 💪
Love your outlook! Keep on riding.
Это круто! Велосипед лечит лучше всяких таблеток. Движение - это жизнь!
Wow!!! What a great movie. Congratulations from Brasila - Brazil. Best.
I already love to ride bikes… and this motivated me! Headed out the door
Ian is like the badass wholesome uncle we all wish we had
Cycling has become more than a sport I practice. It is now my life style. I cycle to work almost every day and I go for longer rides twice or three times a week. It is not about hom many kilometers I ride, but how much fun I have. I put on my earphones, get on the saddle and feel the joy and freedom.
As a bike store owner for over 12 years, I really liked your video.
Thanks for watching, we're glad you liked it!
What a breath of fresh air. I've always thought of bikes as human-powered machines too. This dude gets it. There is no other freeing feeling I can find that comes close to riding.
What a ripper flick to see someone living their dream. All power to you and thank you
Yeah this dude got the energy of a guy living his best life. I hope his shop smashes it.
Just finished riding cycling is awesome 👌
Your attitude is the future of cycling. And your business model is the perfect antidote to one make franchises. Thank you from the UK.
I like that quote: Ride your bike, don’t just romance the idea. ❤
Great vid...really inspiring...sold the car 6 years ago and bought 2 bikes....life changing.....If I lived near you I would be a regular
Fascinating, inspiring story - we could all do with a local bike mechanic like him!
Love this film , just perfectly demonstrates the true value of riding a bike . Thank you .
There are men in this world that bright with their own light, surely this guy is one of them .
Brilliant film & an even better message 🚴♀️🚲
Thank you, I'm in my early 20's and I've always been wanting to just go cross country and enjoy the freedom, bikes are such wonderful machines to enjoy that happiness we all look for.
