Kate, this posting is so rich. It has given me much joy to think about Finn. I also surely have blemishes and flaws. Sometimes called pollyannaish. Loyalty, generosity, friendship. What a trilogy tale that is..and yes often there's the stink of death in all our nostrils as we learn the processes and protocols of sacrificing the old. Without which we can't learn to walk new paths of wholeness. Thank you for your love of story. It's very healing. May all your chooks lay golden eggs today. Blessed be🎉❤😊
Lovely as always Kate -- I appreciate all the characteristics you described, including blundering into things :) I'd have to say, though, the one I feel most drawn to -- and hope to continually practice until the end of my days -- is learning to tune into 'the music of what happens.' It has truly taken most of my life to shed a habitual living in my *response* to things and not with things as they are -- and once I found that state of being with what is as it is it's almost like a new lifetime, certainly a new appreciation for simply being -- 'what is' becomes precious, whatever form it takes. Writing this I'm reminded of Stevens' The Snow Man -- I think that describes it. Go raibh mile agat as always for your thought-provoking invitations 🤍🤍🤍
That's a precious place to live - in that music. I'm practicing right beside you, and we both know: it's WORTH IT. Thank you with all my heart for your presence and kind companionship and deep understanding.
Hmmm, I would say I am very aware and notice what is going on around me, and that I am generous. I can learn from Finn’s connections with his friends. While I certainly am interested in my friends I would like to listen to them more with my heart and intellectualize less. Compassion is another quality a good hero ought to have. I am a fan of being reliable. Thank you, again.💚
Foolish and flawed can be all of us at one time or another!😊. I like the quote "You are more important than me.". It allows the individual to acknowledge that all you meet may be intertwined on an energetic level. The flaw is not seeing others as heroes!❤
Thanks for sharing, Kate. About the loveliest sounds I would say the voices of my loved ones, specially when we laugh together, the sound of a bird coming to greet me, my kitties mews, and the sound of fresh bread being wrapped in a paper bag 🧡 Also, I loved the mention of the virtue of being a good friend and truly listening, lately I have been so caught up in work I realize this is a wake up call to be more present and to really really listen.
Mer Cait! Ta ionadh orm! Fionn after all, had that extra bit of wisdom from the Salmon! There are many lessons in these stories! In some ways his behavior reminded me of John Wayne, the characters he often played in his movies, a sort of curmudgeonly hero…As for which virtues I would to strive for, all of them of course!! I guess I could claim to have little bits of each at this point in my life, but I think such virtues, as your folklore has illustrated, are more like guideposts along the journey.
Betsi a chara dhil, I love your idea about "guideposts." That gives us room to be imperfectly practicing, trying our best, resolving to try again, and still be a human being who sometimes blows it. I sure do. And I'm noticing more and more that the more we claim certain virtues - like "I am kind" - the more we tend to enact them or at least notice a discrepancy when we fail to do so. And there is our learning!
I am compassionate, generous, fiercely gentle, agile minded, and loyal. My friendships mean everything to me, and yet I can be distant. Finn's story reminds me that a person with flaws can be yet a hero, and perhaps because of these two seemingly disparate qualities that we, too, can acknowledge our flaws and celebrate our finer attributes. And is it possible we are a hero to someone we know, or perhaps not even know? BTW, my heart broke when Bran (sp) was so devastated that he leapt into the lake. Thank you, as always, for the gentle and thought-provoking post.
What you share here is GOLD. What I'm taking away from your words is a reminder that in every moment we have the opportunity to be a hero for someone - flawed, yes, but still contributing, inspiring, giving a hand up, sharing a laugh. And as a dog-lover, I'm right there with you in feeling the pang of Bran's hurt as the one he loved best in the world turned against him for just a moment. Ow. An urging here for restraint, perspective, and kindness. Thank you for your reflection, PearlyGirl.
Lovely to listen to , if only we could really know how others perceive us. I think its hard to comment. I hope I am generous of spirit, the list of flaws might be to long to list😂 many thanks for sharing .
