  • Today I launched solo at 6 and stayed in shallow to avoid the wind. I had some sardines ready to drop and got started in about 20’ of water. Conditions were ok but the water was very dirty in the early morning. As the fog lifted and the sky brightened things started cleaning up. A few Lizard fish later i decided to head to deeper waters and find some better live bait.
I made it roughly 50-60’ and got one decent hookup which i still somehow manages to loose.. back to the drawing board on these larger fish. I think the trap rig i am using it great but there can be a lot of pressure on the bottom hook and it seems like this is where the line is popping. Found some live bait as the birds and dolphins started working closer to shore.
The dolphins put on quite a show as they effortlessly picked off sardines and anchovies in the shallows. The came in really close and gave me an amazing Santa Barbara experience. Feeling very lucky to have this amazing ocean and wildlife to enjoy right in my backyard and home waters of SB.
Always learning more. I will get there soon and land that big one from the Kayak
