Great and Clear expanations though i might add if you installed the game from EA, not origin or steam then to find your dragon age files its in Program files(NOT Program Filesx86) and its inside EA games
The game should be removed from steam until they can get it working. If you pay $30 for a game it should work without having to use 3rd party mods just to get it to not crash every 2 minutes.

Thank you very much! I want to play all the Dragon Age games on Steam to get ready for Veilguard and was having fun with Origins until it just wouldn't load my game without crashing. This was a great guide and an easy fix.
So, that first link under pre-patched is done for you. No need to download and run the NTCore patcher. That's if you want to do it yourself (hence the DIY mentioned there). Backup the current exe you have, because backups are a good precaution in general :P Then replace the exe with the patched one. The thing I read from another user that helped me was to pin the actual exe to start, and run that directly. I tested this 3 times, keeping my game on max graphics, and had no issues getting back in. I was crashing in freaking Lothering, and my DA Redesigned mods are glitching even on full Medium.
So it fixed itself and reloaded. I was able to get into the settings and made the texture quality low. As for the last step unfortunately I couldn't do that but I'll attempt to see if I can make sure it keeps running. And thank you for posting this video tutorial.

THANK YOU!! After watching 3 different videoes on how to install the 4gb patches i have to say, yours made the most sense! I could not for the life of me get the patch files to overwrite the original game file correctly by the other methods. Yours was simpel and easy to follow for a newbie, so thanks again! The only alternative method that i did was to download the unencrypted daoorigins.exe through Nexus and not via the steam LAA dropbox. Don't know if it made a significant difference tho
My game crash everytime when I load to the game and if I somehow load to the game - there is crash in 2 minutes. Patch didnt work for me. But when I set textures to low - everything is great, no crash, nothing. So thanks - textures help :D

Im trying to play the game myself now and tried this, and im just stuck in. It's an infinite loading screen after trying to atart a new game music still on and all, but i have to restart my oc to get it out of the loading screen
If you downloaded the game on steam try to verify the files other wise uninstalland reinstall, also see if your drivers need to be updated hopefully one of those help.
So i have to play a 15 year old game with texture detail turned all the way down on a RTX 4090 or else it will crash? I don't think i want to buy it if this is the case. I used to play a pirated copy of this game on a GTX 970 with no issues.
@@KattycatJane that's really unfortunate. I have a feeling that if Bioware wasn't owned by EA, these issues would've been fixed. All three games can be purchased on steam right now for ten bucks (total, not each), which would be a great deal, but I decided to stay away from all of them after reading about so many issues with the games and their stupid launcher, which shouldn't be necessary. Supposedly, The Veilguard won't require their dumb launcher so maybe I'll play that one when it comes out. I just wanted to play the others first so I'm pretty disappointed that they can't be bothered to fix the issues.

Appreciate for help, of course, but you don't need to do all those steps. Set textures in mid (or low) and this problem will be gone, this specific problem is related to setting texture quality on high, and in certain zones like Ostagar even in mid quality crashes happen. Don't worry about the other game video options. I don't know if any mod solve this issue, i haven't found anything about.
So dao is pretty much a lost cause and I just bought it recently and I only have 3hrs I think played and every time I open it. It kicks me back to my desktop on my gaming laptap

If you are only crashing once in a while, I would start with the affinity fix aromg 2:20 and see if that stops crashing altogether. Most people have had success with graphics at low which does take away from the game but unfortunately in my experience was the only way I could play but my crashing happened every 5 minuets so hopefully since your is less often the affinity might be what you need to help stop the memory leak. Also, I very much agree this should be fixed by the devs since they are still profiting off the game, but they have known of these problems for years and have not seemed to care much.
My folders look nothing like yours, I can’t figure out how you extracted your zipped folders, mine isn’t saying zipped after I downloaded it and it isn’t showing 4 different folders like yours
Sounds like it could be corrupted try going in to verify the files if you have it through steam or just uninstall and reinstalling it to see if it takes it

Another asked if my computer was too weak. I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3020. Hey I'll take any suggestions but can't try until Wednesday. Go my dying PC hooked up next to new to continue Cit Elf campaign.
From a quick look it should be able to run the game on all low settings so i would definitely try verifying when you get a chance some times it does help. So my fucking problem is that i have it on the EA app and its too zoomed in for me to change the settings and press play!!!! no one on earth has this fucking issue but me AWESOME!!!!!
I am not sure if it is something with this game or my pc, but every time I play this game in full screen my cpu temps hit 80s. I could play any other game in the highest graphics settings and my cpu rarely hits 68 (I have 7900 xtx and 7800 x3d) . If I play in window mode the temps are normal.
Hi! This video has been so much help. However, Dragon Age: Origins is not appearing in my Task Manager. Is that step something I have to have and if so how do I go about getting it to appear?
So if you are running the game then minimize it and open task manager and it is not showing it could be because of some type of malware or you may need to do a clean boot from what i can find online. Try running malwarebytes you can use it for free when it asks for an email you can hit skip and it will still run to see of it can find any malware and if it does it can remove it.
Good video but i installed the patch and when i launch the game i get an error screen that says "STEAM- Game launch Failed" Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition failed to start (error code 51) do you know what i can do?
Have you tried going to the game on Steam going to properties then local files then verify integrity of game files then restarting your computer that has worked for me in the past with the 51 error

All I did was just set texture details to medium and my game never crashed again.

For me the 4gb patch didt work,when i click it it just opens up the same map with the 4gb patch in it. It does not show what i see at 1.33 min :(

I do agree. With it being as big of a problem and the fact they are still selling it they should patch it so people can enjoy what they pay for.
my system keeps telling me the file is in use... but I don't know by what. Everything is closed, so I can't copy over it...

Have you tried temporally lowering your screen resolution to see if that will allow you to access the settings

As far as I know there is no controller support for the pc version. Perhaps you can find a mod?
