How to install and play Dragon Age Origins Ultimate on Steam in 2024 UPDATED

- AFTER SEARCHING FOR 10 HOURS TODAY I FINALLY GOT MY GAME WORKING IN THESE 7 SIMPLE STEPS IT WILL LITERALLY TAKE YOU 5 MINUTES OR LESS (depending on how computer literate you are). PLEASE, TAKE YOUR TIME. DO IT STEP BY STEP. PAUSE IF YOU HAVE TO AND IF YOU NEED HELP LEAVE A COMMENT. I WILL RESPOND ASAP.
Steps:
1.) UNINSTAL DRAGON AGE ORIGINS
2.) DELETE THE DRAGON AGE ORIGINS FOLDER IN DOCUMENTS/BIOWARE
3.)Download: this....4gb patch: ntcore dot com/?page_id=371
and this....Unencrypted DAOrigins.exe: www.nexusmods dot com/dragonage/mods/5989?tab=files
4.)open the .zip file Unencrypted daorigins.exe - AlexFaithman-5989-1-0-0-1675337344 and drag the daorigins.exe file into the bin_ship folder in your Dragon Age Origins Steam directory. Accept the changes.
5.) open the .zip file 4gb_patch and run the .exe file and locate that file you just dropped in the directory from step #4 and click Open.
6.) go back to your Dragon Age Origins Steam Directory folder AGAIN, and goto the redist folder and run the two files:
DAUServiceSetup_Steam.exe
DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam.exe
7.) YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO! But, if you want to double check to make sure your DLCs are installed just go back to Documents/BioWare/DragonAge/Settings and there SHOULD be a offers file and addins file.

if it gets stuck on the middle of the installation of dlc's just run the game once and try again, it works.

Yea I went through the same crap before figuring it out that's why I made this video. Ita bullshit that we have to go through this. Just wait until 20 years from now you think this is bad, its only gonna get worse with them forcing digital downloads and stores discontinuing the sale of physical media like dads, Blu ray movies, videogame disc's.
I'm not good when it comes to downloading other files and adding them to games to get them working but I was able to complete this easily and now I can enjoy a childhood game... Thank you so much for the easy instructions!!

HUGE THANK YOU! This was the only thing that worked for me after trying so many other things. The only thing that is different for me is that the neither the desktop shortcut or playing from steam will launch the game, it just causes it to crash saying I need a 'CD key'; I just launch the game directly from the file in bin_ship and it works perfectly! And at this point I'll take it lol (Also, NOTE that I was not able to download my DLC as listed in step 6 until I ran the game once, and I just mean go into the title screen and then exit out, then I did step 6 and it worked perfectly and I have all my DLCs; don't know why that happened but thought I'd leave a note in case someone is having the same hang up there.) Huge thanks again!!!!
great news! its funny cause alot of people comment that this doesnt fix their problem so they are probably doing something wrong becauyse 90% of the comments on here said the same thing u said.

Awesome!!! so glad this is helping people. because it was a CHORE in and of itself sifting through forums and reddit posts. There isnt a guide for this on UA-cam becasue this must be something new that Steam just did that broke the game for everyone
@@The_Gent I just deleted all the data, and downloaded the game again, in general, there were no problems with the gameplay. But the only thing I struggled with was launching it on Steam. The clock did not go there and the cards did not fall out, as if I were playing a separate game, sometimes it wrote that the game was already running.
As a result, it was only necessary to launch the utility and clean the PC from debris.

I'm new to the Dragon Age series, and I was having trouble with the game not running after purchasing it on Steam.
I came across this video through the steam community, and I was able to solve this problem with 3 minutes or so. Thank you so much.

Be aware that if you uninstall the game and remove the dragon age folder, your save games ARE GONE! might wanna mention that. otherwise, good tutorial.

This is for a fresh install. You're gonna have to start over from scratch. 🤷🏻♂️ those saves won't be patched and will be corrupted.

This solution worked for me save for one extra step. After I did everything in the video, I found I still needed to do the step where I needed to make a fake .xml file called "systeminformation" and placed that in the documents>bioware>dragon age folder. Essentially, you make a notepad file and save it in that folder with that systeminformation name. You need to navigate to the notepad doc and change the .txt extension to .xml and after that, the game loaded up from Steam like normal. Thanks for this video, it really did help!!

For anyone having the issue where the Configure window immediately closes, follow all the steps in the video and only launch the game directly from the "daorigins.exe" file. For some reason, the game fails to gather my system information which was causing all the issues, so you have to just circumvent the configure screen entirely.
Also holy crap this was insanely headache-inducing. Steam shouldn't be selling this game if it's so broken.

@@The_Gent I am sure steam knows about the problem which makes them just as culpable in this situation. I've been trying for years to figure out how to get dlc to work. I told them. I am sure others told them as well that the dlc doesn't work and users have to find massive work arounds.
EA should fix their crap, yes, but steam shouldn't sell it until it's very clear on what to do in order to play the full game people spent money on.
I'm hoping this video will help. But I'm still blaming EA and Steam for not doing anything to help customers out.

Okay, I did everything, and it works now. The only problem I had before was that I didn't extract the ntcore and unencrypted files, so my game wouldn't even open, so once I extracted the files and did everything again, it works. Thank you

Hey so I hope you can help, I followed the instructions up until 2:29 but when I click the DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam.exe it throws up a notice about needing to activate the game and needing the CD key. There is no DLC option in game settings and the link shows a dead page. Do you know any work arounds?
Okay so followed advice in the comments, got the two executables to run and complete, checked the docs/BW/DA/settings file, addins and offers both in there. but now I press Play and it does nothing... ffs...

So in the redist folder, none of them are installing wtf do I do, like, when you say drop the daorigins.exe into the file and then just word vomit about the 4GB patch? It doesn’t make sense, I clicked it, then I clicked the DAO one and nothing, did it vice versa, nothing.

Thanks worked, i couldnt start "DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam" file (it was asking CD key) , so i clicked play Dragon age from Steam and its showed "Completed, Press close to start Dragon Origin" etc.. and then clicked file "DAUServiceSetup_Steam", soo in the end everything worked, thanks mate
Could you elaborate on this? Currently stuck at this portion and cannot get past this part. Nothing I do get either of these to work. -Edit- I got this to work mins after posting this. Relaunch the programs with the dragon age O screen(First mini screen, not the in game one) up and both will run properly.

i don't know why but when i try to replace the file, it says i can't. i followed another tutoriel but the only thing it did is delete my dlc's and not fix my problems. so yeah, i think i'm going to pass playing origins, enjoy the game for me

I appreciate the detailed and simple instructions. However, I still can't get the game to launch in full screen mode. I keep getting the "Failed to detect a supported video card" error message. In fact, the DA Configure tool won't properly display the display adapters. If anyone has other troubleshooting suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

I got the same thing; it froze on me. You have to open the game to where it gives you the pre-game launcher, then exit. After that, re-try installing those redist files.

@@The_Gent Yes, for me, seems it fixed everything. Before, all settings defaulted on every restart, constant crashes and no DLC. Just finished Leliana's DLC with zero hitches, no further steps required, just smooth sailing all the way. Playing on a hand-me-down hp probook 640 g2, thanks granma.
It's not working! When you start the game, the launcher is loaded in the steam and crashes. The game does not start.
did you follow the instructions in the description step by step and do everything i said ? I also like to note this is probably not going to work if you are on Windows 11. Windows 11 is completely broken and does not work with most older games. Thats why its so frowned uppon and everyone stays away from it

I've done everything fine up to the point where you went into the redist file and clicked the addins. When I click those, it just gets stuck loading them. Any idea what's going on there?
Try uninstalling everything. Use the file explorer and search for Dragone Age. Delete everything Drsgone Age from your computer. Restart your computer. Load steam, Redownload Dragone Age. Verify integrity of the file in Steam settings. Then try again. If that don't work, idk what to tell ya. Are you doing everything I said specifically in order as I did and wrote in the description?
Still can't use the steam launcher for some reason , but at the end it work it out by executing daorigins in the bin_ship. Thx btw

@The_Gent nope its not..anyway i solved the problem by completely different way...i opened EA app with my steam account then the game was in my EA library..i deleted the steam version and downloaded it from EA app and all working
the unencrypted didn't replace the original and wouldn't open at all. and the patch said catastrophic failure. the offers folder isn't there either. now all of the progress I had managed to make last night is lost, and the game is still crashing after character creation. what am I doing wrong? I did everything you said to do in the video
not sure what I did, but it seems to be working now. I'll try to update again once I hit Ostagar, since that's where I ran into trouble last time I got it working

It worked for me, I can play normal... But what I didn't like is that the game becomes Steam independent, as if I wasn't playing the game through Steam, it doesn't count the game time and it seems that I have the game closed.

@@davidborja8054 everything works, you are just doing something wrong. Follow the steps step by step in the description. Read the comments, see how 99% of the comments say thank you? Thats because you are a.) doing something wrong or b.) your not using the Steam version or Ultimate Version. If my method doesnt help you then Idk what to tell you. It works for me and everyone else I know.
I got it to work but when I put it oh the highest settings it crashes so I keep it at medium settings

hi! thank you so much for the video. I'm trying to double click the two things to install the DLC, but it took me to a webpage that doesn't work and the loading bars won't complete. Also, when I went to check to see if they were installed just in case, when I went to the documents-bioware-dragon age folder, it's not there. like at all. It's gone. Did I do something wrong? anyone please help.

EDIT 2: okay I just went to steam and hit play and it loaded for a bit but then that same launcher came up that happens on the first thing to double click, and it did the thing where it says complete. Then I went and checked for the folder again, and it's there and it says addons and the other thing that it's supposed to for the DLC so fingers crossed it works!!! Thank you!!!!

@@Yxtxxyxx yea, theres a ton of different responces and little bit of feedback peopel have said what they used ontop of my method to get it working. I cant belive we even ahve to go through with this crap still. I have my original Rainbow Six & MEch Commander discs from 1996 and when i goto install them thorugh the CDROM drive, it wont even install them anymore says some ERROR and the game is in perfect condtion.
Very silly question, at this point: I luckily did not encounter your problem, but I see that on your list and mine as well, "return to ostagar" does not feature in the other campaign. Is it normal? I'd hate to start the game and fins myself without that DLC ....
This is for fresh install and the DLCs will be loaded in whe.n you do the one step. But you have to do them in the order I showed and this is for a clean install. Deleting all saves and everything
It should be in there maybe you missed it cause I scroll through them pretty fast
It seems that it is ok. "Return" is literally not the "other campaing", but part of the base game. You couldn`t play it outside of the main campaign. So it shouldn`t be featured there. Same with Warden`s Keep and Stone Prisoner.

I just bought the game on steam. There was a huge bundle with all dragon age games.
So do I need to download the game then delete that one folder and everything i side after I Uninstall game. Then re download it?
Or just start after that step.
I only ask because I know these steps usually have to be followed to the T or it doesn't work.

Well if you haven't played the game before then you don't need to delete the files because they never were on your computer to begin with.

It said something about the CD key and that I could get it from Steam by right clicking the game, 'Manage', and then 'CD KEYS' but I do not have that option in Manage?
are you launching from steam or EA ?
All I can tell you is to follow the instructions in the Description step by step. I dont know nothing about no CD Key...you might have to contact Steam Support regarding that, just take a screenshot of what its saying and attach it to the ticket. Its a very simple process..

I bought the game yesterday and I spent 14h so I got some issue it's crashing when I changed the tab to the window, I watch some streamer play before their graphic is good and look beauty is it mod if I install mod now I will lose my save game? thanks for the video
this isnt for that. you have a bug/corrupted save file i think. if you restart you will have to purge your pc, including save files, because they are now corrupted. just follow the steps in the description if you don't understand the video if you decide to go that route. This will fix everything, my method, but you will have to start over.

Follow the steps. If you haven't installed the game before then you don't need to delete anything🤷🏻♂️...but like I said you NEED TO DELETE THE DRAGON AGE FOLDER and start over from scratch. This is fora fresh install of DRAGON AGE ULTIMATE on Steam..it's not hard. It's 3 steps. Read Description...if it's not working for you then your doing something wrong. If you follow the steps EXACTLY how I have them in the Description, it'll work.
I think I'm having a difficult time- I did everything except double-clicking on two things in redist. Once I click on either of them, they're stuck frozen on the loading screen (and yes I'm doing this at 3 am because it takes an hour to reinstall the game-) should I be concerned that the game's file didn't appear in the Bioware file?
i dont know what your talking about. did you follow the instructions exactly how i have them written out in the description? you have to delete everything Dragon Age Origins from your computer, uninstall and start fresh before you do anything.
@@The_Gent I did, I redid everything but the only problem is double clicking DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam and DAUServiceSetup_Steam, once they load up, their progress bar doesn't finish all the way through, it's stuck like that, and act like they're done with their progress. Aside from that, do you have a video covering the CD Key? It says it wants me to activate it but the Bioware site for that link doesn't exist and I have no idea where to get the CD Key so I can activate it manually
@@twistedstorm2986 I had that same problem. All I did was cancel the load, opened dragon age origins game through steam, left the game and tried to download them again and it worked. I really have no clue why it worked lol
@@twistedstorm2986 there is no key that's been fixed with the patch. Go through the comments on here and read the replies to what theey said they did to get it fixed. There's a couple ppl that had small issues that ended up fixing it and they all got it working. So yea, go look through them and see if they have the answer.
@@twistedstorm2986 I would also recommend before installing the game, you're gonna want to first uninstall the game via steam (I would recommend using iObitUninstaller because that removes registry stuff and other junk files that the uninstaller misses). After thats done, goto your File Browser and search Dragon Age Origins Ultimate and delete everything that has anything to do with DAO (besides other dragon age games) that pops up. Because everything related to DAO has been corrupted. Screenshots, u can move them all to a new folder on the desktop for now.
Do all that before you install the game. But the only thing I cam tell u is follow the instructions in the Description while you watch this video.
2nd, if your having problems. Go through the comments on this video and read the ppl who are having problems, their were a few that had minor issues (like you), and figured out what to do. Reach out to them and see what they say.
If you figure it out get back to me if you don't still let back to me I'm anxious to know what you did to fix it. If you do fix it please make a new post describing the problem and what you had to do to fix so others can use it for a reference.

@@The_Gent Huh? But that's the name attached to the Dragon Age Origins 4gb file. I saw someone else post 'the link doesn't work' and you replied 'hey r-word just look at the video' So I did and wow I found it and didn't need to be called an r-word.
I wish I could see this video earlier and simply follow your steps instead of searching how the hell I activate DLC in 2023 when services are off now and the DLC itself is free from 2022
well it does activate the DLC its part of the Ultimate Edition if you dont have the Ultimate Edition idk what to tell ya. But if you do everything i say to do as I say to do it (READ THE DESCRIPTION FOR STEPS AS WELL) it will work I just did it again for the 3rd time and did it for my friend as well.

I might try this out and see what I can do. My specs on my computer blow the recommended away, but for some reason my 'create new character' screen is black, I see 2 dots as eyes. I have to lower the graphics on my I9 Intel, 3090 TI card, just to see myself or guess what my character looks like, but then in game increase graphics back. Random crashes too, some of those mods have issues seems like. Does anyone know of a 'crash log' generator? If I could see what the issue is, I could fix it.

@@The_Gent I meant my own mods, not anything you showed. I was just saying I wish I could find a Crash Log to find out which one was doing it. I understand no mods in this video, but it may help make it more stable.

@@The_Gent I actually tried to run it without mods and without your guide at first, then was black with 2 dots, following your info, I can see my character... This time though one mod made my Elf Commoners stomach see through... Wish I knew more about it.
