If it's obvious and likely to be dangerous then I would have to say something. If he rolled up with a helmet in hand and said nothing then I wouldn't know any different.

Hey Charlie we are all here to help each other. Knowledge should be used for good not power. You've taught me some handy bits over the years and I'm glad to have answered a couple of questions for you. You're an honest and humble bloke and I respect that.
As for the buyer/ helmet saga. You have a good heart. Many would just grab the cash and carry on. I very much doubt he'll take heed of your wisdom but at least you will never feel you could have done more when he ends up under a bus.
    Peace and love brother! 👍✌️❤️

Hi Charlie. Buying a helmet off Temu for £10, sorry but what a muppet, he's asking for trouble. As you said, it's not legal here and would probably break apart if he had an accident. Enjoyed the video thou, including the rant at the end. New project incoming 😅👍

yep, agreed! hopefully he doesn't have an accident and gets a proper helmet asap, some stuff off of temu is OK but I wouldn't but protective bike gear from it! have bought a small backpack, cleaning cloths in bulk and other bits cheap as and they're ok.

Can't believe some people Charlie & they always find you, lol.
100% correct to educate them in a kind & friendly manner.
Ideally, you should always try on a helmet prior to buying for fitment and sizing.
We have all liked the look of certain helmets and styles, but they just dont fit everyone. Personally, i would rather be safe than looking cool or keeping up with my friends.
I'm really looking forward to the 250 project, btw.
Stay safe and ride steady 🤘

      Cheers mate

Like I always tell people new to biking, "What price do you value your head?" It's really as simple as that!
You did the right thing sending him away.
Storytime now about someone very similar I met when doing my DAS years ago before the test became 2 part...
This young fella had only just passed his CBT on the Saturday, didn't show at all for the Monday for initial assessment on 125's and then rocked up on Tues expecting to get on the 500's with everyone else. Instructor told him straight that he wasn't comfortable putting him through the full licence test, but would continue with him on the 125 if he wanted, which he accepted.
He had to borrow a helmet and gloves (bearing in mind this was the end of January and it had snowed twice during the week already) and had no proper jacket or anything, so wobbled around freezing cold behind everyone else.
He did this every day until test day, it was freezing cold and raining just enough to make it a miserable ride, but not enough for the test to be cancelled, so we had to head from Sutton to Guilford and instead of going backroads as we did during the week, we went straight onto the duals to get some practise with that. This guy turns up in a thin cotton summer jacket with a t-shirt underneath, suit trousers and slipon shoes, when I checked my mirror at one point while hammering along at 50 in freezing cold sideways rain, he was crunched up into such a small ball it looked like the bike had no-one on it!
By the time we arrived at Guilford, this poor sod looked like he'd just been pulled out of a lake and was then told he was the first one out to test, watched him wobble out of the gates with the examiner behind him and went to roll a cig while waiting my turn.
Before I even got a chance to light it, they were back. Apparently he stalled the bike at the junction at the end of the road and then got to a roundabout where he stalled again and then dropped the bike...twice in the middle of the road. So examiner brought him straight back and went off to calm down for 5 mins before it was my go!
I did feel a bit sorry for the guy when we were riding back, especially as it just rained even harder and already being drowned, dropped the bike and failed the test spectacularly, that ride back must have been brutal. Turns out he only wanted to do the test because all his mates had bikes and he wasn't even really interested in them!
I didn't care about the rain at that point, I was too elated from passing my test and knowing I had a Bandit sitting in my front garden ready to go!

I'd advise if I felt like they're not being safe or were unaware of a law they were about to break but after that it's on them what they do once they've bought it.
I sold a car once to a horrible man, no MOT(failed MOT on brakes and rust), no tax(this was years ago when the tax transferred over). Stank of weed! He drove off in it so I called the police straight away and IIRC they managed to pull him over later that day.
I thought about it a lot afterwards and if I should've not taken his money in the first place but he was the type of guy that probably would've kicked off and got physical, ultimately he got his comeuppance in the end though

Good point. If someone comes to me with a helmet I wouldn't check it. But these guys told me so I felt strongly that I should say no. Which I did.

No you don't need a helmet when pushing a motorbike.

    • @motorcyclerescuer

You do. You have to be fully road legal to even push a motorcycle along a road. Unless the law changed recently

Unless the law changed recently you have to be fully legal with helmet even if pushing yes. I'm curious now as to if the law has changed. I'll look it up

Yes the bike has to be fully road legal, mot, taxed, insured, but if your pushing it you don't need a helmet, I put a link in my other reply to the government web site Charlie.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  7 днів тому +1

My Google just said the opposite. It agreed with me. Said you have to have a helmet even when pushing.
I was done in the past for this. I ran out of fuel and was pushing a bike to the nearest fuel station. I left the helmet with a mate. Was pulled by the police and they got me on this. Around 18 years ago.
