Absolutely worth it in 2024 and beyond. This camera came before its time and you're right on time imo. Tell your story the way you envision it bro with this beast camera.
I was considering some of the new ones on a 5-10k budget (C400, FX3-6, C70, R5 Mark II) and after doing some research on videos like this I’ve found on eBay a Dragon-X 6K ready to shoot package with about 300 hours for only 4 thousand dollars, what a banger omg! This thing is a beast in IQ first project was a success, clients and I loved the image of that 10 year old thing, I’m so excited for the upcoming projects, can’t wait to keep shooting with this amazing camera!
I was thinking about getting the motion mount for my Dragon 6k. is the ND always on?? trying to figure out if I need to get a normal EF adapter as well
I'm actually trying to get the Scarlet-X. I've looked all over FB marketplace to trade for my BMPCC 4k and 6K-S35 kits. haha! I love old cameras for some reason.
@jmsdfilms I feel you on that man im the same way. I keep saying i should sell some of my older cameras. The Canon C100 is a great example but there is just something about the sensor in that thing and i am somewhat attached to it. Keep looking bro! Ebay is where i got mine and i see a ton of them there. Id keep the BMPCC 4K and just put back $200 for every paid gig you do. Before you know it you'll have a nice equipment fund built up. I put back 15% percent of every job we do and it makes purchasing gear a breeze if and when you need to.
@@epochfilmandphotoI still have the C100 MK II and the C200B, haha! See! Same boat indeed! I am selling both of them though cause I need a stills camera. I mainly film weddings, and having a smaller body does help. I really appreciate the tip with the savings. I will definitely do that once I get more work. For now, I'm just working to pay the bills, but harvest is coming, and I'll be ready! 🙏
Ive bought a DSMC2 Helium for around 4000 Bucks shoot ready and I put that all on a ronin s. Does beep some times but in fact looks and feels so good. Far more versatile then a Alexa :D
Hi, I'm searching online this answer but can't seem to find anywhere. Just got a Scarlet X, it came without the top fan (it does have the front fan). Does that mean I'll fry the camera? Can it tolerate use without the top fan? (moderate use, about 5-6 hours on per day)
Hello, thank you again, I replied your video so many times just to know the battery plate/mount combo ,,could you tell me which ones so I can buy it on ebay, and is it true that Gold mount is better than V mount ? thank you!
Its a Wooden Camera Gold Mount. When i bought the camera the guy i purchased it from already had it on the camera. In the past ive worked for several TV shows where we used a combination of Sony, Canon, and Panasonic cameras as well as Gold Mount and V mount batteries. Personally ive always like the locking of the Gold Mount better. Performance is the same. The V mounts would always pop out when taking it in and out of the production van but that might not be an issue for you. Im getting ready to film a video on my new cinema camera the Canon EOS M LIte and it does have a v mount that works just fine. Hope this helps.
@epochfilmandphoto thank you so much for taking the time to reply, you are true hero, would love to see more videos about your Red camera, best of luck with your channel!
I agree that the low light isn't great. This can be combated i believe by using a faster lens when shooting low light. Im excited to see what i can do with this old beast. I have a documentary that im working on now called "The Well" that will be filmed entirely on the RED Scarlet-X so well see!
@@epochfilmandphoto just get fx3, better in every way, new, and smaller, same price used scarlet vs new fx3 camera is not something you want "vintage", it's the lenses. you don't get better footage when editing on a "vintage" laptop, same way you won't get a better image using a "vintage" camera. everything an old camera can do, the newer ones can do better. and a new camera can have a vintage look with some editing, same can't be said the other way around.
@@lowIQstuff wrong, new doesn't mean better,,,also you don't need to make old cameras seem bad to feel good about your purchase,,,, (9 out of 10) Hollywood will pick the red scarlet over the fx3,,,the fx3 is still a great camera ( very light weight and great low light performance) but not enough for making actual movies, the red is more designed for that, but good luck with your fx3 man, wish you get the best out of it!
I look at all my scarlet x footage from 9 yrs ago and it looks better than my ursa mini 4.6k G2 all day. It's not even close on indoor shots. OG Reds just have a look I can't describe. I guess it's why I fell on this video. I'm about to collect a few OGs and Blackmagic will be collecting more dust
Cool to hear bro! Normally i just get people shitting on the camera saying i shouldve just bought a BMPCC 6K for the same price. Thats just to easy in my opinion and idk i like cameras that are hard to use but offer a far greater reward.
Excellent video and love the presentation of information. I have two(2) Canon 90d's and love them both! They really do everything I need but I really want to explore and play around with a Cinema camera. I'm also a proponent of maximizing your equipment so for Me personally... I don't need or require the newest piece of gear but I still want something *nice if that makes sense, 🤷🏾♂ #RobbArmstrong
Thanks for watching! Dude check out my video on the Canon c100. Its one of Canons first cinema cameras and packs a huge punch! also they go for less than $1000 on any given market.
I have this same camera and I love it, excellent video man!
Awesome! Thank you!
I repair DSMC1 If you need maintenance or repairs.
Ill def keep that in mind!

Get the motion mount, global shutter and built in NDs is worth it alone 🔥

Yo I’m still rocking the Og bmpcc with Canon, sigma and Nikon lens !!!
I love the way it looks !

Awesome video, very detailed and nice work! What XLR to 3.5mm cable is that? and what follow focus do you recommend for the RED?
Excellent camera. A proper camera.

How about toms big room in the background ha
great video dude! I freaking love the older reds :)
Same here! Filming a documentary tomorrow and cant wait to share it and break it down!
Thank you so much for making this video, these cameras are like rare gems! I bought a red epic x mysterium 5k, do they have the same sensor?
I believe it does. Your camera has better frame rate options though
Great video man!
Appreciate it!

thank you ;))))

Hey bud is that tilta xlr adapter camera specific?
I dont think so. Its just a xlr to aux adapter.
Exactly!. Ive gota scarlet mx for that reason Newsensors don't have the magic
Guys buy any Dragon sensor or any DSMC 2, really cheap today, stop buying the lowest quality REDs
Agreed. I have a Scarlet MX, but happened upon a Dragon 6K for way less than what I paid for the Scarlet.
the low light is bad and the IR pollution is crazy.
