Great video Mario, I am sure someone already made this comment but if they didn't be careful manual activating the vvt when you suspect it is advanced already, if you advance it more the pistons may contact the valves, and some of those solenoids are pulsed and connecting strait power may burn them out. Hi, sorry this is Chinese to me. Girl here, trying to figure it out. VW 2013 CC that’s been sputtering since a oil change. Now PCE light came on and check engine blinked but acceleration was bad actually RPM’s went up to 4 and dropped drastically going 20mph. Heard the engine rev. Turned it off and on again, no lights, but RPM’s still jumped around from a stop to going. Made it home but just looking for answers before getting screwed taking it in to a mechanic tomorrow. Thanks so much if you can reply!

Hello mario, i bought a Gli 2006 2.0 turbo fsi. It has a problem. Lack of power. When i was introducing to turbo motor wold, i spent some money for trying to fix my car. And until today is not been possible. My problem now that i see videos and i know something about these motors, my timing maybe have a problem. I changed my timing belt. And clean inyectors, changed sensors. HPFP too, and still the same. Well. Problem is my adjustment valve information on VCDs is specified 28 degrees. And actual i have 60 degrees on ralenti. If i press accelerator only moves 1 or 2 degrees. So. When changed timing belt. The marks stayed the way we found them. You think is a timing set problem? Or maybe vvt not working? I tried and check vvt valve and opens and close evert time i conect power directly. What do you think?
Another great diag video, 1 question, how much diag time did you charge for that paticular job, you spent alot of time taking parts off also? I would like to hear from other mechanics out there also on what they or other shops would have charged for that diag.
Well Buddy, you did your part. Diagnosed and confirmed. Great job Mario..😎 Oh Yes, Tommy is the VW nut 🤣🤣 LOL One of Danner's protege and somehow has managed to dam near sound like Paul at times too. Also, Congrats on the Pico 👍 Cheers
Top job Mario. 👍 Nice to see you back in action. I’ve missed not seeing you around on UA-cam much recently. Incidentally, did you think there was an indication from that engine of unusual noise, sounded weird in the video but I know sometimes the video can make stuff sound weird even when it’s normal?
Thanks! European cars are well known for sounding like that. Being a direct injection engine, they have extremely loud injectors. Unusual? Lol all Europeans cars sound unusual 😆
Good diagnosis. Thank you for sharing. Congratulations on the Pico. Congratulations on 985. Thank you for not showing a palm tree in the background. Ha ha . A happy holiday to you and your family.
Great find. What's the story on your Micsig? What failed, and are they going to repair it? There's nothing like having a 12bit scope, so I'm sure you really going to like the PICO even though the Micsig is way more convenient to use IMO..
The micsig seems to have overheated somehow, while it was inside an Acura that I was filming. The company thinks they did their part by sending me a firmware update. Still no good. I sent it to my brother to let him handle it. With the right set up, the pico is pretty convenient. The only times the pico was inconvenient is when i need to take it on a test drive with the laptop and all. But really i don't care, I love the thing! Thanks for watching buddy
Nice video, good diagnosis as always. You seem to have the hang of the pico already, did you watch any videos about the software's functionality? Or any articles on making it quicker and easier to use? I've had mine for a good 6 months, I seem to be a lot slower and navigating etc
Yes i saw all the videos i could, by picoscope automotive, trained by techs, dmitriy L, Matthew shanahan, googled as much as possible. The scroll wheel/horizontal zoom i found out by mistake 🤣 and of course watching scannerdanner for a couple of years sure helps:) i played around with the demo a bit before i got the pico. Thanks for watching! Any questions don't hesitate to message me.
I put my new parts on and it ran good no problems for afew hours then boom p0016 came back along with all cylinder misfire codes any ideas why I ran good with no check engine light for them hours?
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics I'm getting into the habit of diagnosing with scopes and thanks to guys like you that make me a better tech. Keep them coming. Merry Christmas happy new year
Can I add that there is timing advance info you could have accessed from the scan tool that might have made the scope unnecessary. Through making my own video's I've realized my usual diagnostic process would be to duplicate or confirm the complaint, check codes, check relevant measuring blocks (data stream on Vw), then do scope checks or voltage checks ect. We've done bunches of tensioners on that engine (CCT), as they seem to be a common failure, and Vw has updated the part many times. Tensioner on that engine should be a maintenance item, and changed at a interval like a Timing belt at 80,000 or something like that. We just recently rebuilt the head on one that had jumped time and customer kept driving till it jumped time far enough to bend all 8 intake valves.
You are correct. I've since learned that there are some pids that will reveal if the vvt system was at fault, or timing. But would I say that the scope was unnecessary, absolutely not. I use the scope to see it for myself. I don't see many of these cars so I did not jump straight to the relevant blocks like someone who sees these cars often would. But there are many ways to skin a cat. Even if i saw those blocks pointing to timing, I still would confirm with a correlation comparison, I guess you could say I wouldn't place all my diag faith in just a couple of pids, i like to confirm by seeing what the ecm sees. But I do appreciate your comment, and you taking the time to watch 👍
Hi, I have a 2013 Audi A5 1.8 TFSI and when I got the car it had a slight misfire when idle and when accelerated it would stop but there was no fault sign. I then serviced the car and yet again same issue so I then changed the ignition coil and spark plugs and yet again same slight misfire no fault code. I was then told to add a additive to the engine which might help so I decided to add that before starting the car and as soon I started the car after a while it started to misfire a lot and have a error code of P0016 nothing else. I’ve never had such misfire as the engine cuts out with the misfire. Could you please tell what it might be ?
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics one more question help me please, at 7.55 minute. the shaft that touched the screwdriver. expressed not sticking out. how should he be? a lot of people tell differently. By this I am confused.

So is the car going to be sold or is it trash? What was the cost? I have a 2015 VW Jetta with the EPC code, replaced the battery, swapped out the starter. Still a click and no turning over. It started 3 times and then stalled out before all these issues. I went to work on it and had the issues I just stated. Now I have a P0016 code. Total POS Jetta. I hate VW’s. Let me know if you think I should stop and send it to a mechanic.
Grab a wrench and try to spin the crank clockwise. It's very possible that your timing jumped and a valve has collided with a piston, preventing the engine crank from rotating. DO NOT GO COUNTER CLOCKWISE
I believe the root cause was lack of maintenance. Low oil levels. It was severely neglected. Lack of oil pressure to the tensioner may cause it to loosen tension to the chain
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics thank you, I have a similar problem, the customer has a massive oil leak and ran it with very low oil. I got a p0016, P0303 and p0366, it's all pointing towards a jumped timing chain, but I didn't want to start taking things apart cause they're asking for a worst case scenario because they don't have a ton of money to drop on the repairs. Thanks for your help
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics yeah, but really not sure exactly. So far volkswagen dealership replaced my fuel pump and air bags. Then told me to be on standby with timing chain

What can cause the jump in timings?
Any lack of chain tension. Bad tensioner, broken guide(s)
It's a 2012 it's worth fixing if the timing jumps more than the valves will get damaged

What’s the cost of that repair ?
A arm and a toe.
So what happened, are you saying the chain jumped time
Yes, it did
Thanks for the quick response, thanks. last question, what do you think was the cause?
I believe the root cause was lack of maintenance. Low oil levels. It was severely neglected.
Lack of oil pressure to the tensioner may cause it to loosen tension to the chain
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics thank you, I have a similar problem, the customer has a massive oil leak and ran it with very low oil. I got a p0016, P0303 and p0366, it's all pointing towards a jumped timing chain, but I didn't want to start taking things apart cause they're asking for a worst case scenario because they don't have a ton of money to drop on the repairs. Thanks for your help
How does this even happen in the first place?
A loose tensioner can easily cause a jumped chain
Suppose to get a recall on those timing
A recall on jumped timing?
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics yeah, but really not sure exactly. So far volkswagen dealership replaced my fuel pump and air bags. Then told me to be on standby with timing chain
Recalls are for safety items. Never heard of a recall for jumped timing
I consider a fix if you figure out what the answer is.lol
