A few items to consider here: Are the Installed cartridges Non-HP OEM ink cartridges...i.e. current or previous generation aftermarket or refilled cartridges installed? Or possibly, HP OEM Original cartridges are installed but they are now several years old with OUT OF DATE (obsolete) smart chips installed (and are no longer compatible with the current printer software version). Updating the printer to the latest software version will usually allow both HP NEW and NEW AFTERMARKET cartridges to function ok since chip versions are usually updated each year. ....but may disable older cartridges with older generation chips, unfortunately. Accessing the deep service level menu sometimes allows you to unlock select printer/cartridge error conditions, but not always. UH
If you take a flashlight and look behind the printhead/carriage assembly, you will see an encoder strip (very thin plastic reader) that runs the width of the printer...don't touch that as it is very delicate. Just behind the encoder strip you should see a belt hooked onto a gear at the left and a spring on the far right. See if you can carefully reach in there and pull the carriage out by gently applying and pulling FIRMLY on the belt to the LEFT. If not, then the service station underneath the issue could have a motor problem. Also,...have you attempted to clear the printer back to it's Factory Default settings?....this might just be a printer firmware hang issue. Here is the basic procedure for that (varies my specific printer model): Press return arrow 4 times Press support menu Press right hand arrow 3 times to system configuration menu (or locate Default Factory Settings menu) and press ok Press right hand arrow 2 times to ink initialization status and press ok Press ok to clear. Good luck! -Thank you. ;). UH
Thanks for your advice. Saved me on buying another copier. So blessed to have people like you to help all of us. Thanks again.
Very glad to hear my procedure was able to help you recover your printer system.
-Thank you! ;). UH

This fix does not work.
Check cartridge connectivity & chip compatibility (new versions, either HP OEM original or Aftermarket new chips are usually required). Thx!
