      I know! I’ve had the same thoughts many times. It’s difficult to imagine isn’t it?
      This channel has a link in one of the descriptions that shows a huge shark and I was shocked when I saw it. Apparently it isn’t even one of the biggest sharks either. I truly can’t fathom how terrifying it would be to jump in the middle of the ocean(which I’d never do)and have something that big attack you😳😵. I’d certainly be one of those people to have a heart attack as soon as I realized what was happening.

    I had not heard of Cheribon either. I'd take getting shot versus being dumped in shark invested waters. You mentioned the Indianapolis. I had never heard of the fate of the Indianapolis until Robert Shaw told the story to Richard Dreyfus in the first and best Jaws movie. That movie started my fascination with sharks in 1975 which continues to this day. I love your show and look forward to each new episode.

    RMS Nova Scotia (1926) and the USS Indianapolis (1945) were both sank by torpedoes. I think oceanic whitetips were the primary species involved in both sinkings. There were a lot of tigers at the USS Indianapolis as well. But I have always heard that the oceanic whitetips are usually the first on scene. And the sound of a sinking ship or airplane was like a dinner bell for them. I think it’s safe to say all of those were predatory attacks.

    • @SharksHappen
      @SharksHappen  2 роки тому +18

      Probably at least 6 species at all sinkings, Blues being the dominant in numbers is what I always read. But, history seems to be changing as it does when enough time passes. I will cover the Indy and the survivors will show you that your assumptions are wrong about the White Tip. Only the last few years has that crap started. I've been an ocean swimmer all of my life, but listening to your stories, I shake inside wondering how I was never eaten alive? I've had two brushes with sharks while on rafts, one while body surfing, and I had a big shark encounter one time when I was snorkeling on top of the ocean several miles off of the coast of Florida. I love to snorkle and there was some seaweed floating around on the surface of the water creating a habitat for some beautiful tropical fish...I was really enjoying the beauty and the peacefulness...but out of the corner of my eye, a little bit behind me, I saw a shark was swimming up from the deep. I was about 35 feet from the boat and the shark was fast. I barely made it safely back to the boat...maybe 18 feet between me and the shark. It was pretty scary. From the ladder I watched it slowly circle me and the boat for the next ten minutes or longer, before it finally swam back down to the blackness where it came from and I could no longer see it. Now I'm done with sharks.... No more diving, snorkeling, swimming, boogie boarding, or body surfing for me. I'll leave these beautiful Florida beaches for other souls to enjoy and to explore...I'm afraid that at my age, I have outlived my guardian angels.

    Some of the Japanese got eaten by saltwater crocodiles during WWII on Ramree Island. They were fleeing British troops over 16 miles of mangrove swamps, and apparently every crocodile that was living in those swamps and even the big ones that typically hunted and fed in the surrounding seas came in that night to have a snack. There are differing accounts, though, with some saying nearly 500 soldiers were killed and/or mauled that night and some saying that it wasn’t the crocs.

Shit, am I hungry enough to take on something of that size ? Wow. I can see that being so possible to explain the differences in the collection of shark bites of varying situations being hard to understand if ‘intent’ is present. I’d say when they bite it’s because ‘they intend to’.
