I’m strictly a jiujitsu guy and have always sucked at wrestling but your explanations are so good and the technique so superb I believe I can implement this into my game. Amazing! Thanks.
Wow, a real game changer. Traditional Sprawl counter won't work as effectively anymore. Great wrestling technique, awesome details. Thanks for sharing!
single leg is my favorite technique in grappling, i do it from everywhere , from standing from guard from bottom, this video very helpful to me thank you
jepp. I’m a wrestler and this is how i was thought back in mid 80’s (44 years old now). Either you can shoot all the way in (difficult) or you get to this grip and start to work from it. Great stuff and your style suits me 100% since I’m trying the jiu jitsu way but with a wrestling background. I’m in Sweden and it’s not likely I’ll ever get to your gym but i’m liking it so much I’ll get the t-shirt and support your effort. Keep up the good work!
As a skinny dude, my most favorite single leg is to pivot to the side if them while having the single and hooking the leg I have with my leg and transitioning to a double. It's the only single leg thats worked for me. I'll try this out tho.
Amazing video coach! Would love if you could make the ultimate guide for the sweep single since this video would complement it nicely. As a beginner grappler, with no previous wrestling experience, it would help my stand up game immensely! Oss
You're choking the snake! That's the way my high school coach showed a single leg, and it never even crossed my mind to lock my hands with a gable grip until my college coach showed his variation of a single leg, but he does it slightly different. He does a single leg with a gable grip, but you stagger your legs real far so you can get a ton of shoulder pressure on the side you hit the single leg. This does two things. First, you're able to put an absolute TON of pressure on his hip while running the pipe. Second, your grip is up way higher if he does manage to sprawl out, so you never get extended. If you're circling, and haven't dropped your elbow to circle behind, then you suck the hip in, just like you would to regain position from a double leg. Either way, I agree with you. Choking the snake lock, is a much much better finish than most people give credit for.
While I completely agree on how this grip mechanically works better than the standard "gable grip and suck in to you" method, would you say that a con of this method is that the limp leg escape is much more viable? I experimented with this and found if I missed in just a few inches south, especially during the knee slide/pivot portion of the move, I would lose control of the knee and my opponent would effortlessly limp leg out.
Yes I agree with you. There is always a counter to a counter. The best thing to do is use the proper tool for the job. When I sit in the position I often times change to the palm to palm. The idea I try to preach is don’t sit there and finish immediately but I agree with your assessment.
@@TeachMeGrappling I concur. Just wanted to thank you for providing one of the best grappling channels on UA-cam. I think your channel as well as Lachlan Giles and BJJ Scout (if Keenan..uh...BJJ Scout I mean, ever does an breakdown video again) are the best things on the internet.
@@marioreyes9738 lol he probably isn't keenan even though thats a funny joke. most likely he is some random british or canadian dude. I'm coming to the conclusion that this channel is the best as well on youtube for pure grappling
What you are saying is right,a copule of years ago i saw a video of John Smith saying the same things, but in my opinion you did a better job explaining the small details, but now i have a question,i was trying to work on my snatch single (when you don't drop to your knee but snatch the single from ths feet kinda like reza yazdani used to do) do you think that this lock would still be beneficial doing that kind of single leg,or it just works with the one when you drop your knee to the mat?
Why do you use use the inside hand to grip the wrist of the outside hand? Does it make a difference either way? For the gable grip the outside hand is always on top, so i'm wondering why you switched it up for the ball and socket.
When you stand up and hold his leg with this 'long arm grip': how do you secure his knee? My training partners often tend to turn away and slip out with their leg as soon as they can free their knee
before you mentioned wrestling with someone bigger i was thinking the same thing..im having trouble finding counters to counters..namingly the guillotine if your opponent switches sides..
Awesome vids Coach! If possible, could we see a quick clip at the end of your techniques in a live scenario? In tournament or just training would be great. Probably turn some non-believers heh.
When on ground, if he tries to stuff head, you rest on bicep… but what about when standing? What if he stuffs the head when you have this lock and are standing up?
ua-cam.com/video/pomEyJv5ujA/v-deo.html This is the exact same way that Daniel Cormier does it. I'm guessing he may have learned from Oklahoma as well.
It's not about the physical alignment of the arms and legs only, but also about the direction of the forces applied which can't be seen on video and without proper explaination you'll miss them! Taking the time to listen to his details will save you 1000x that listen time waisted on wrong apply of the technique over the years! Just do some math: 20 min 'waisted' explaination versus 10 years waisted energy.

No I use it for snatch singles as well! Yazdani is a beast!
Just use the part where he shows after you knee slide and pivot to get to your feet and proceed from there.
