Hmmm. good question! The premise of this was that the North American tectonic plate, having gone as far west as it could, had begun moving east, kind of like a ball bouncing off a wall. In such a situation, the Yellowstone hotspot would apparently go into reverse. This may not trigger any kind of an eruption, let alone a super-volcanic one, but would almost certainly kill all the geysers, hot springs and stuff. On top of that, if the rift that split the North American continent is wide enough, Yellowstone might well end up under the newly formed sea... and if that sea is as deep as implied by the rift view scenes, it could produce a super volcanic eruption, and no-one would know it had gone off due to it never breaking the surface of the sea!

Hmmm. good question! The premise of this was that the North American tectonic plate, having gone as far west as it could, had begun moving east, kind of like a ball bouncing off a wall. In such a situation, the Yellowstone hotspot would apparently go into reverse. This may not trigger any kind of an eruption, let alone a super-volcanic one, but would almost certainly kill all the geysers, hot springs and stuff.
On top of that, if the rift that split the North American continent is wide enough, Yellowstone might well end up under the newly formed sea... and if that sea is as deep as implied by the rift view scenes, it could produce a super volcanic eruption, and no-one would know it had gone off due to it never breaking the surface of the sea!
