No more hot glue fingers. Great tutorial, thank you. Update: I just finished your method and it is wonderful. It came out so neat , no hot glue blobs, no burnt fingers.
Great demonstration, very thorough. I just tried my first design board with the hot glue and was so frustrated with the lumpy and uneven result that I pulled all the binding and batting off. Then went looking for a different method and found your channel. A WONDERFUL method of making these boards! Thanks so much
Best video ever! I am doing this! You can get foam board at Hobby Lobby with adhesive on one side. Holds the flannel down but it’s pricier. I see a matching set of three sizes as gifts for my quilty friends
Thank you so much. I did not know that. I’ll look for the sticky foam core boards the next time I’m at Hobby Lobby. Thanks for sharing! They do make nice gifts because many times we won’t make these things for ourselves.
I took an even easier cheaper route lol. I use the foam board and batting but taped each side with painters tape or any tape I had. They work great;) If you use the pretty design tape it would look just as pretty as binding fabric;)
After the hot glue mess I was going to use some fun duct tape from the dollar tree. Then I came across this version. I think using the tape is a great idea.
I love the idea of using glue stick lines to hold down the batting! I made my batting layer stick by spraying the board with spray adhesive first and layering on the batting. Just another option.
I just saw a similar but larger design board on Lori Holt's website. What a great idea! Your tutorial was very helpful. I work mostly with small projects so this will be perfect.
I used the Ultra Hold too! Instead of turning the ends over, I used my Pinking Shears to trim the ends and applied a few drops of Fray Stop. So the mitered corners would hold better I used a drop of elmers glue all and ironed to dry the glue. The ultra hold method was so easy that I made 6 Mini 5 x 5, 4- 10 x 10, and 4- 15 x 15. They are holding up very well.
Terri - what a great idea - using Pinking shears. I finally bought a pair last year (for something - can’t remember😄😄). And I, too thought a drop,or two of Elmer’s at the mitered corners would be good. I need to hit JoAnn’s for the Ultra Hold and the Fray Stop!!! Great hints.
Much better way than with glue! One suggestion: leave an inch or more free at the beginning if you are starting with a selvage edge. When you join the two edges, cut the binding to slightly overlap, but finish with the selvage edge on top. Of course this will only truly work if at least one selvage has the print or weave all the way to at least one edge. This will eliminate any need to fold over an edge. You can also eliminate bulk by trimming at an angle the folded back sides at the starting edge before applying the ultrabond.
I always have many quilt projects going at once so I love making these-I have some from Lori Holt and now I can use leftover fabrics!! Thanks Robin!!💗💗💗
So glad I saw your suggestion! I just finished two boards, and using the selvage end as is worked great! The join was so much flatter than turning it under.
Excellent tutorial - I will have more comfort using this method rather then the hot glue! As always you explain the steps in simple terms and show us at the same time - it makes following the steps easy 🙂. Thank you for all you do!
Robin, thank you, thank you, thank you and again THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this video! I created two quilt design boards with foam boards and flannel. I used fabric adhesive, but it turned out to be a hot mess around the edges of both foam boards. Even after I applied an ample amount of fabric adhesive to bond the flannel to the foam board, the flannel kept loosening and peeling off the edges of the foam board! This was so frustrating! I almost used up an entire can of very expensive fabric adhesive with very poor results! Your method is very simple, easy...and way cheaper! I am definitely going to try your method! I'm on my way to Walmart to get the Heat-N-Bond product and glue stick from Dollar Tree! Thanks, again.❤
I can picture your frustration. I’m glad you found my video. I didn’t think I’d use a design board but even when I’m making things other than a quilt I use mine often. I might even make a few more. Happy sewing!!
I used the ultra hold without realizing it, for appliqués on a quilt. I did not like the effect of the stiffness in the quilt but after sewing down the appliques there was no residue from the glue on my needle. Just an fyi...
I’m making eight 15 x 15 inch boards for a special project and am putting the batting on the board with sheets of heat and bond I got from a bolt. It’s not cheap, but I didn’t want to use spray adhesive and I wanted the batting to be smooth and tight to the board. I wouldn’t even try this project if I hadn’t come across this video! Glue guns and I aren’t a good mix. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I just made two boards and they turned out great! I was tempted to buy a couple of boards because I hate working with a hot glue gun. This was a wonderful solution. Thank you to your listener who made the suggestion, too.
Wow. I thought I was the only one who struggled with making design boards with hot glue! I burned myself badly and the glue cooled on me before I could maneuver the binding!. Left bumps! So thank you for your video! Yipppeee
Thanks for sharing this method. I have several design boards to finish and didn't particularly care for the hot glue method as it was messy. Certainly going to try this! Much neater looking. I love using design boards - they have made such a difference in my cutting and organizing of fabric for piecing. A small thing, but so helpful!
I found this method so much better. Quicker. Cleaner. Less painful. 😉. If preparing several blocks at once for a quilt a stack of design boards would be very helpful.
Thank u so much for this method! I made one today and they are so perfect. They have adhesive backed foam core boards now so I didn't need the glue stick...just take the paper off the board and the batting sticks to the board...no fuss no mess. Really luv the heat and bond...first time I saw this method!
Love this idea over the hot glue. You are correct the lumps drove me nuts and the burning myself well... ya... Thank you for sharing I will be making alot more now.
I am going try to use the Ultra Hold to hold on the batting on first. I am also going to join the ends like binding, on a 45 degree only just using the Ultra hold. I will turn over about 3/8 in. and tuck in the end and press in place. That Ultra Hold is great for wall hangings that are only used a few times & then are outdated. Great no sew project for anyone! Thank you for a great video.
I watched your video today and just happened to have the materials to make a design board per these instructions. One thing that helped me center my seem on the edge of the design board was to use a STRAIGHT pin with a top, and push the pin into the edge of the board so my binding was centered. It did not move when i pressed the binding down. I like to add a bit of embroidery thread to the front of the design boards. I use a buttonhole stitch. Obviously, you should remove the staight pins once your binding is secured. Thank you for this tutorial!
Wow Robin! Thanks SO much for this video. I'm glad I came across it before I whipped out my glue gun. This is WAY more easier and less messy. You're awesome!
I love the idea of using ribbon as I have a stash from making hairbows and pillowcase style dresses. Easier than making binding as well. Thank you for the great idea!
Yes, I have purchased the boards online and they are really cute - but are expensive. I have a written how-to for those boards but I’m not great with the glue gun either - plus,I was thinking it would make a nice program for my smaller quilt guild. I just happened onto this video this afternoon and I’m totally sold on this process!!!! So I’ll be adding the foam core and Ultra Hold Heat&Bond to my shopping list. I’d like to make several sizes, especially a larger one as I do like larger blocks and I also do hand appliqué with larger blocks so would work for piecing and appliqué. Thanks so much, Fabuulous video.👍👍👍👍
Thank you. I’d like to make some larger ones for my tote bags. Medium for zipper pouches. I don’t make many large multi block quilts but I do enjoy making mini quilts. It’s nice to have all of the pieces in one place.
I just made one but used corrugated cardboard since I had a lot of packages arrive over the holidays. The process worked very well, but since the cardboard is thinner than the foam core, I didn’t iron along the edge first. I ironed a little on the back and then the same area on the front. Worked great! The cardboard wasn’t white, so the board has a darker look since the brown shows through a bit. I love this method because it is exactly how I bind my quilts. No new skill set to learn! Thank you!
I like that you used Elmers glue stick. I did do that when I made my design board. However I did sew my binding on. I’m sure your method is great also. Thank you for all the little tips!
I actually made one of these today BEFORE I saw your video, I used the hot glue, I’m terrible at hot gluing! I wasn’t really happy with how it turned out so when I make another one I will DEFINITELY be using this method! Thank you!!
I have two small boards that I use regularly. One made with hot glue and one with the fusible. I can tell the difference every time I pull them out. The fusible one is so much neater and smoother.
Great! thank you Robin- , details and how to use Heat and Bond Ultra made a difference- and the details you are watching out on Heat Ultra is so helpful! Wonderful tutorial on how to make this design board was Great!! YES BEST EVER! Sandi Myer❤️
Late to the video and thank you for an informative video! I also used mini clips while I was ironing and after to keep everything from coming apart and I think it will keep the fabric adhered to the board better. Leave them on overnight and it turned out great! Thank you!
OH MY GOSH🤭. A friend and I started to make a design board w/hot glue😬! About a fourth of the way into project I started to take pictures of the project (A STICKY HOT MESS}🙃! However we did LAUGH a lot😈. Next I tried liquid glue in a tube, 😂🤣! With that lumpy mess we decided that we didn’t really need Design Boards😢. Came across this method by accident👏! Tomorrow I will surprise my friend w/design board that doesn’t look sticky or lumpy and that can actually be used🎉. Thanks for sharing. M🍀
Omg i just made 9 boards last night and i see your video this morning I'm so mad ugh lol. The hot glue sucked I burned my fingers too and it ooozed out of my fabric so some boards aren't as neat lol. Now I will make more using the hb ultra hold. Thank you so much for your tutorial.
Love the mini board. I like this method better than the glue gun.. About 30 years ago I worked in a factory and when they closed I got spools of bonding tape 1/4 wide heavy duty for hemming seams. I kept them now I can put them to good use. Thanks for the tutorial. Have a great day.
I have to say, I love this new version of your mini project boards! I try to stay away from hot glue as much as I can!!!! Thanks for your thorough explanations!!!!❤
Thank you for the tip. I made my first no glue project board “live” for this tutorial. Afterwards I did wish I had used something to glue the batting down.
Hi Robin, Just seen your design board video. What a good idea. I finished my Chrissy tree ornaments and a little basket to put my throw away bits in. Next I want to start some of your string bits. I'm new to all this and really enjoying doing them. I have a very dear friend in South Carolina that I call my sister as I haven't got one. We've known each other since 1996 when we took part in a teacher exchange. First time I'd flown on my own. We have 'crossed the pond' many times since then. The last time she came over was for our daughter's wedding in 2019. Our son did an exchange year in NC before he went to university and had a great year. Our daughter went to Florida on an exchange with the school county band and played in a concert at Disney World. My husband used to go to the US with his work. We had a wonderful time every time we came over and we visited lots of places east to west. Long may you continue your videos. Jenny
I love the idea of using the ultra hold waaaayyyy more than the hot glue! ❤ I am going to have to make a few sizes but I love your Mini board! 👍🏻😜 I have a mini iron too! I find it very useful and I agree....It definitely gets a lot hotter than my regular iron. ~ Mini thanks for this video Robin!❤
I so glad to be watching your video! I had a very busy day and I want you to know that I enjoy your channel's content. I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! Thank you for posting!
Thank you, Robin, this is so helpful. I tried following Lori Holt's suggestions for using fabric and glue on my boards and just quit, it was so fiddly for me. This is much easier and prettier too!
Hi, artists use toned palettes so colors are more readable. Usually, They tone them in medium gray or light brown. This board is like a pallette, i’d try medium gray felt.
Thank you so much for the tip. I’m usually just winging It when It comes to colors. I used to love the contrast of bright fabrics against a deep black but lately I’ve been drawn to a grey somewhere between a light and medium shade. I’ve never liked a plain white fabric as a contrast so the lighter grey is my version of a basic white.
Exactly!! King size quilt?? Mini wall hanging?? Mini wins every time. It means I can make so many more mini quilts for the same amount of time and materials. I know you love to work on smaller projects.
You could use some spray baste on the batting then stick it to the foam core board. Also when I first worked with foam core board for stretching cross stitch for framing I was told to secure the fabric with pins in the foam layer. A few pins before ironing would help a bit to secure the binding
Thank you SEW MUCH for this tutorial! I made one with glue yesterday and really did burn my index finger. This second one with the heat and bond came out so much better. I literally went to JoAnns just to buy some today 🙂so I could try it.
You’re very welcome. I really like this version so much better. Even I was able to make my first try look good. My hot glue ones were always messy, crooked, and chunky where the ends met. Now you can make as many design boards as you’d like.
This is Great timing! I have seen these boards before. But never made them. THIS IS MY YEAR TO REALLY SEW/ QUILT...❤ I thought this will be my First Project of the year, ( for the year of the Rabbit). I love Chinese foods and this year is my Aminal for their horoscope. That means Good Luck, doesn't it. ha,ha. Great year to make and get it done.
Great idea! Thanks for your excellent tutorial. Think I’ll like it much better than the hot glue I used on the first ones I made. At one point I needed a bunch more in a hurry and just put the batting on, being careful at the edges, and used them without the binding. It worked just fine.
The fabric around the edges adds some color to the design boards but as you found out it’s not completely necessary. If the batting pulls away then you just glue it back down 🤷♀️.
I tried making theses design boards with hot glue and then your way with the heat and bond. The glue gun one was a mess, what a fiasco. So much better with the heat and bond. Still like zigzagging the center before applying heat and bond so I know where center is and can have even borders. Much better results with heat and bond.thank you.
And it will be a chance to break in my mini iron! I haven’t taken it out of the packaging yet. It will be a lot easier than holding Rowenta iron up! Thank you again. I’m so excited I’m off for three days and I’m going to catch up on a ton of your videos!
This is FANTASTIC!! I was planning on making some boards, but I hate hot glue. This is great!! I'm going to use basting spray on underneath the batting. Thanks for this great tutorial!
You can always use your pinking scissors on the last piece of the binding that way it won’t fray and you don’t have to turn the edge to finish it 👍🏼 and also it wouldn’t have a thicker finish 👍🏼. And on the corners I think I’m going the hot glue a button on each corner that way the Midas corners will stay closed 👍🏼 I also think it would look cute 😍
I hated the hot glue too. This version allows the fabric to lay down smoothly. I know it’s just a mini project board but It still matters. Especially when you pick It up and you can feel the lumpy glue. Happy Sewing!!
Robin, this is wonderful and so easy and neat. I didn't like the hot glue method and this is a very efficient way to make up some design boards thanks for passing it on.
Going to get the ultra hold right now!!!! Thank you so much. I love the idea of these boards and have a thrift store flannel sheet and a bunch of various sized of squares cut from Amazon boxes I collected. I don’t order that much but I know a shopaholic...
I used double sided tape the crafting type from my scrap booking supplies works amazing and used a couple strips in center of my batting came out perfect
I was wondering how well double stick tape would work. If It would last. I guess if a year later It stops sticking It would easy enough to replace. Thank you for sharing.
@@rsislandcrafts Its been way over a year since I have done it this way and it has held up just fine...im happy with it I am gonna try your way also never hurts to try a few different methods ...TY for sharing
Hello, Robin! Great tutorial! This video just popped up in my recommended list. I’m now subscribed and am looking forward to exploring your past videos. Thanks, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Here’s what I do to make sure the batting stays on. I use iron on batting that comes with adhesive on one side. I just iron it on the cord board before I ate,pt to add the binding.
Love this idea. I do not have a design board. I just use a mini wool pressing mat as a design board. Maybe I’ll give it a try and make a larger one for bigger blocks. Thanks for the ideas.
@@rsislandcrafts yes, and I too hate the hot glue gun. I get hot glue everywhere and burn my fingers every time. I should not be allowed to use one. I keep it in a place where I have to really think about it before I work to get it out. Do I really want to mess with it? Usually the answer is no and I find some other way to do it. Thanks for your clever option in this project. If I do make one, I will use your idea!
Dollar tree sells a spray adhesive in the craft section which is similar to tacky that I have been using to spray the foam board with to get the flannel to stick everywhere. It is wonderful and only costs $1.25
@@rsislandcrafts Binder clip(s) to hold the item. Even, sometimes, several linked together ; ) or a pinchy plastic clothes hanger and outside is always good so long as there's no blizzard!!
Thank you! Can't wait to make mine tomorrow. I'm going to apply the binding to the front first to see if this makes a difference. Maybe pull a little more binding to the front.
I’m very pleased with this version. They’re quick projects and easy to try different techniques on each one you make. Then you’ll know what works for you. Have fun!
I just watched Lori Holts vid from 9 years ago! I was nervous when she used the glue gun 🔥 🥵 then your video came up next and bingo no glue gun. I checked out your etzy shop . I ❤ that cute little purple 💜 polka-dot house bag ! Lol 🤔
Thank you so much. I always burn myself when using hot glue. I’m not any better with super glue 😉. Thank you for checking out my Etsy shop. I think the little mushroom houses are cute too. I do not have a video for the bird pressing station. Lisa Capen Quilts has a video tutorial. I use the wooden top of a tv tray. I’ve made a few versions but this time I used a couple layers of cotton batting and two layers of the bird fabric. Here’s Lisa’s video - m.ua-cam.com/video/kJ4fkUigTDQ/v-deo.html
I just made 2 boards with hot glue and I'm not impressed with the final result. They are usable and look okay but I know they could look better. Did not like using hot glue. This is a great alternative.
Here is my hot glue version - ua-cam.com/video/t5ddbIzLsOE/v-deo.html
There are so many decorative rolls of Duct tape out there. I use that as the "binding" for my design boards.
Yes there are. I actually bought a couple rolls of shiny metallic duct tape but then I learned about this technique. Plenty of options for everyone.
Does the duct tape stay securely attached to the batting?
@@susanmei9980 I haven't had any problems at all with duct tape. It's really sticky.
@@kathygist6488 thank you for responding. I will try that! 😊
I use duct tape too
No more hot glue fingers. Great tutorial, thank you.
Update: I just finished your method and it is wonderful. It came out so neat , no hot glue blobs, no burnt fingers.
You are welcome! So glad you like the method, and I’m so happy your fingers didn’t get burned. I like the smooth finish. That bump really annoys me 🤣

I like that you used Elmers glue stick. I did do that when I made my design board. However I did sew my binding on. I’m sure your method is great also. Thank you for all the little tips!
I’ve seen a video where someone sewed their binding on. Looks great. Whatever works right? ✂️✂️✂️
I think you should make you self "mini" more of these. Have a great weekend.

best looking tutorial on this I've seen.
Thank you so much 🦩
I actually made one of these today BEFORE I saw your video, I used the hot glue, I’m terrible at hot gluing!
You are welcome! Im glad It was helpful. The heat n bond ultra gives the design boards a much smoother and neater look.
Late to the video and thank you for an informative video! I also used mini clips while I was ironing and after to keep everything from coming apart and I think it will keep the fabric adhered to the board better. Leave them on overnight and it turned out great! Thank you!
Great tip!
@@rsislandcrafts thanks!
Tomorrow I will surprise my friend w/design board that doesn’t look
sticky or lumpy and that can actually be used🎉. Thanks for sharing. M🍀
It’s fun to craft with a friend. Especially when you can laugh together.
Mini = this process is a lot more efficient and more kind to your fingers Thank you Robin Sincerely Your Friend Lynne
Much kinder on my fingers.
Oh no. I’m glad you found my video even if a day late. You might be able to peel off the hot glue version and save the boards.
Thank you so much for this information. He went over everything, nice and slow, and it was easy to understand!
You’re very welcome.
I am glad I ran up on U doing this design board. Thanks
You’re welcome. I’m glad you found me too. This was a game changer. So much easier and neater compared to the hot glue method.
Very nicely done. I like this version of your design board. Does not need to be a mini style could be as large as one needs it. 😉
Love the mini board. I like this method better than the glue gun.. About 30 years ago I worked in a factory and when they closed I got spools of bonding tape 1/4 wide heavy duty for hemming seams. I kept them now I can put them to good use. Thanks for the tutorial. Have a great day.
What an excellent shop closing “gift”. Hemming tape is very handy. With that much you could even use It on quilt binding.
thanks for the tip for binding. @@rsislandcrafts
I have to say, I love this new version of your mini project boards! I try to stay away from hot glue as much as I can!!!! Thanks for your thorough explanations!!!!❤
Yay! no hot glue, but I have a sugestion use spray baste to adhere the batting to the foam core. I'ts what I had at the time and works wonderfully.
Thank you for the tip. I made my first no glue project board “live” for this tutorial. Afterwards I did wish I had used something to glue the batting down.
Hi Robin,
Just seen your design board video.
Thanks. Glad to hear it’s not just me. I’m very respectful of that mini iron. 😉
I so glad to be watching your video! I had a very busy day and I want you to know that I enjoy your channel's content. I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! Thank you for posting!
Thank you. 🦩
Thank you, Robin, this is so helpful. I tried following Lori Holt's suggestions for using fabric and glue on my boards and just quit, it was so fiddly for me. This is much easier and prettier too!
You’re very welcome. I struggled with the glue too. I never could get It to lie flat or look nice.
Mini is one of my favorite words! Most of what I make is mini! Bigger is not always better! :)
Exactly!! King size quilt?? Mini wall hanging?? Mini wins every time. It means I can make so many more mini quilts for the same amount of time and materials. I know you love to work on smaller projects.
Thank you for making Friday morning a great start to the day .. enjoy seeing all the new items .
Thank you Jo.
You could use some spray baste on the batting then stick it to the foam core board. Also when I first worked with foam core board for stretching cross stitch for framing I was told to secure the fabric with pins in the foam layer. A few pins before ironing would help a bit to secure the binding
Great ideas. I like the pin idea. I never have spray basting in the craft room.
@@rsislandcrafts another product to consider is mod podge
Loved the tour Robin! You’re doing a great job getting settled in and organized.
Thanks Kathy! I’m trying to not pressure myself too much with unpacking. Sewing is much more fun 😉
I love Chinese foods and this year is my Aminal
for their horoscope. That means Good Luck, doesn't it. ha,ha. Great year to make and get it done.
Awesome!! Having a handful of design boards will be helpful for your year of sewing.
This is great! I had the same problem with the hot glue. My first boards look awful! Thank you for sharing this!
I think we all can agree that the hot glue version was a bit of a mess.
Hey, Robin...that came out really well. I used a tiny slip of Steam a Seam 2 on the corners and it worked like a charm. Another great visit with you.
Thanks Janet. Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
You’re very welcome. Adding the zigzag is a great tip. I like It to be centered too.
Great technique. Like yours better then the last five demos.
Wow, thanks!
And it will be a chance to break in my mini iron! I haven’t taken it out of the packaging yet. It will be a lot easier than holding Rowenta iron up! Thank you again. I’m so excited I’m off for three days and I’m going to catch up on a ton of your videos!
Sounds like you’re going to have a nice three days. A new iron, crafting, and crafty videos. Sounds like fun to me.
I tried the hot glue was awful. I am going to try this! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! I was surprised at how much easier this was.
i made these like demonstrated and they turned out so nice, look much better than my glue ones!! thanks!
That's great! After my glued version I was a bit hesitant but my first ones turned out great too. Happy quilting!!
This is FANTASTIC!! I was planning on making some boards, but I hate hot glue. This is great!! I'm going to use basting spray on underneath the batting. Thanks for this great tutorial!
Basting spray is a great idea. As I use my
boards the loose batting has started to bug me.
Thank you. I will try to make this. Your very good at teaching. I've always wanted to have one. You are so nice.
Thank you Jenny. You’re very sweet. Once you make one you might not be able to stop.
Thanks for sharing. I like the look much better than the hot glue .
You’re very welcome. I agree. It’s much smoother.
Wow! What a great solution. I’ve avoided making these because hot glue is such a pain for these awkward and small areas.
The hot glue version was stressful. You can’t wait with hot glue.
Great tip. Thank you
I just made a few of these with hot glue...and am so glad to find your alternative!
I’m not usually very particular but I just didn’t like the hot glue version. Mine came out too bulky and lumpy. Not to mention the burnt fingers 😉
I made them a few years ago and I HATE the hot glue this idea is fabulous!
I hated the hot glue too. This version allows the fabric to lay down smoothly. I know it’s just a mini project board but It still matters. Especially when you pick It up and you can feel the lumpy glue. Happy Sewing!!
I like this method much better than hot glue!
The results are much cleaner.
Robin, this is wonderful and so easy and neat. I didn't like the hot glue method and this is a very efficient way to make up some design boards thanks for passing it on.
Diane I was so happy to see how neat this process is. Plus it’s easier in my opinion. The lumpy hot glue boards were the reason I stopped making them.
super cute fabric
I love this method. We made some using the pretty duct tape but this version is nicer. Thank you.
I bought some fun duct tape but never ended up trying It.
Going to get the ultra hold right now!!!! Thank you so much. I love the idea of these boards and have a thrift store flannel sheet and a bunch of various sized of squares cut from Amazon boxes I collected. I don’t order that much but I know a shopaholic...
Amazon is very good at supplying us with nice sized boxes.
@@lucialeite5250 That’s wonderful. Exactly. You never know if you’ll find something that works as well if not better than your current technique.

Love the mini board idea using the heat and bond 💕
Much nicer then the hot glue method, thank you!
I agree. I’ve noticed that the no glue method still looks nice after weeks or months of use. My hot glue ones just seem “dirty” or messy.
Oh my, I have the ultra hold and was wondering what to do with it. Now, I know. Thanks for doing this tutorial. Now to collect all of the supplies!
It sounds like many of us have the ultra hold in our stash but we don’t use. This is a good project to use up some of It.
Here’s what I do to make sure the batting stays on. I use iron on batting that comes with adhesive on one side. I just iron it on the cord board before I ate,pt to add the binding.
That’s an excellent tip. I haven’t tried fusible batting yet.
It works great, I also will use duct tape that come in a lot of different patterns. Jo Ann’s has it. It works great instead of a binding!
@@mdnisg61 I did buy some duct tape if fun designs but I haven’t tried using It yet. This technique caught my eye.
@@rsislandcrafts try it, you’ll like how it works.
Love this idea. I do not have a design board. I just use a mini wool pressing mat as a design board. Maybe I’ll give it a try and make a larger one for bigger blocks. Thanks for the ideas.
A wool pressing mat is nice and grippy. If you’d like to prep more than one or two blocks having the extra design boards might be helpful.
Thanks for the handy dandy video!
You’re very welcome 🦩
Great video. I plan to make my boards with your method! Thank you so much❣️
You are so welcome!
Dollar tree sells a spray adhesive in the craft section which is similar to tacky that I have been using to spray the foam board with to get the flannel to stick everywhere. It is wonderful and only costs $1.25
Awesome tip! Thanks for sharing. I’m actually headed there now. I’ll grab some 😎
So much better than hot glue! Thanks for sharing
So much better.
I used a few spritzes of spray adhesive to hold my batting on my boards.
Spray adhesive would be perfect. As long as I did It outside. I make a sticky mess with the spray adhesives 😜
Great tutorial and no hot glue but a mini iron....yea
Thanks. Any excuse to use a mini iron 😉
I just made 2 boards with hot glue and I'm not impressed with the final result. They are usable and look okay but I know they could look better. Did not like using hot glue. This is a great alternative.
I wasn’t very pleased with my hot glue version either. This no glue version looks cleaner and crisper. Plus It felt easier to me.
I just found your videos on my UA-cam feed. Great idea - I was wondering how to make these.
Welcome!! I’m so glad you found us. This version of a design board is quick and easy. I hope you make a few. 🦩
