    “We want to build in the steepness in the left side bend and take out the steepness with the right side bend”-This is the most important thing I’ve been told after 10 years of playing golf.

    The timing of this video was incredible. I have always had a decent iron game until recently where I’ve been raising up in my backswing due to other mechanic changes. The left side bend brought me back into form on the backswing, this is awesome! Thank you!

    Sooooooo goood. I've understood the need to tilt but have never seen anything that resonated. The left side crunch puts me in a great plane combined with turning but, the right side crunch in the downswing is the real piece of gold for me. I have had the best and most consistent ball striking using that swing thought because not only does it put me in a great position but it also keeps me from casting the club like I love to do and gets me on plane. LOVE IT....thanks

    Great explanation - ‘build in steepness on backswing with left (lead side) sidebend, take away steepness on downswing with right (trail) sidebend.’ Key concept I’ve been missing for 30 years of inconsistent driving. I’ve been turning with no sidebend….

    I have been trying to figure out my swing issues for weeks and bingo I found this vid. I know from watching video of myself on the practice range that my swing looks just like the "bad" one. I can't say that I entirely grasp the "fix" but I intend to watch this vid over and over until I get it. I want those feebies that come with a good back swing! Great vid!

    This is so important because it gives amateurs the feel of a real good swing - you don’t turn side to side. You actually turn up and down. Side bend is vital to stay on plane.

    Great video!! I recently came to the realization that I was taking the club too inside on the backswing. So I widened the backswing & swung more inside(elbow in) on the downswing. Almost like doing a figure 8 & what a difference it made. Here I thought I was doing the takeaway correctly!

    Really great video, except for one small but very important thing...
    In order to get the right hand UNDER the left hand to grip the club (reverse for lefties) you have to first feel that the right side bends so that right hand gets down lower (under) the left when you grip the club. If you don't do any right side bend, your hands face each other more like holding a putter palm to palm. Try it in front of a mirror, unless your right arm is longer than your left !! your right side MUST first bend to allow the right hand to go under the left.
    So to grip the club, you have to first feel the right side bend, and LOCK it in place, THEN do the left side bend to make the turn back as per the drill.
    =
    When you come out of the turn on the way down, the locked in right side bend is still there; otherwise the club opens up a bit and you may fade or slice.
    It's a great drill to train yourself for the turn provided you remember that your right side comes down crunched.

    The Athletic Motion Golf Guys did a video on what were some of the biggest differences between Pros & AM swings. In the Top 3 was Pros on average have a shoulder plane tilt of 40-45-degrees and AMs have on average 15-20-degrees - it's an Enormous difference that leads to so much chaos. The other top 2 are the Angle of Right-Arm bend at the top (Pros 80-degrees, AMs 125-degrees) and 3rd, the amount of Torque applied to the grip at the top (to square face) - Pros -> huge, AMs basically ZERO.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 роки тому

      Thats 100% correct! Always has been....always will be!
      If I were to add 2 more I would add
      4. Grip placement in hands
      5. Hip sway (both sides)
      that would make a nice top 5 .

    • @malmond1972
      @malmond1972 2 роки тому

      Is torque in the wrist, the same as flattening/bowing the wrist?

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 2 роки тому +1

      @@malmond1972basically yes - where you really see it, is with the longest hitters during their transition from backswing to downswing, when the left wrist bows/grip-twists under load, which is really just a further down-cock loading of the right wrist for more stored power - take a look at Keopka or Champ's transition with the Driver and you will see it.

    You must have watched me play today. I didn't realize I was making a flat turn until toward the end of the round. I tend to do this when I'm a bit sore or tired. I topped a 3 wood off the first tee and had several more during the round. This seems obvious, but this is something that pops up in my swing from time to time.

    I watch you from time to time. Glad I came today. One fundamental question: does this mean that I'm essential "stacking" the club on the back swing as I won't really need a recentering movement, as I`m already there. What do you think?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 роки тому

      You can think of it that way.....thats what the best ball strikers do
      Sternum on top of or ever so slightly farther from target than hips at top

    So Eric, given that the shoulder setup with a driver is different than an iron, do the mechanics of the side bend remain the same?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 роки тому

      Hey Jason! From above comment same topic
      Good one...same concepts with some minor adjustment
      1. You tilt more away from target (right side bend) at setup with driver
      2. You tilt less toward the target (left side bend) in backswing
      3. You tilt more again away from target in downswing
      Thats because
      1. The ball is in the air and we want to hit up vs down like irons
      2. Club longer and flatter makes us stand taller at setup which requires less left side bend in backswing to keep inclination to ground .
      Replace the amount of forward bend with backswing side bend is the idea

    Eric and JT, I have been doing this off and on for a couple of years, but mainly with the driver and it is a killer. I am a 3.6 index and when a I start doing this out of the blue it’s hard to fix on the fly. My question is, that I set up with the driver and have no idea how to start the move away. So is it a side bend, Turn and rotate sequence with hips also rotating? Or something else, I know in my mind what I want to do yet still do the killer move you showed not to do. Any help would be appreciated .

      you tilt toward target in backswing (left side bend)
      you tilt back away from target in downswing (right side bend)
