Just found out today that Judith Durham passed away August 5, 2022, in Melbourne, at the age of 79. Her wonderful performance here is what introduced me to The Seekers - I had never heard of them until my dad introduced me to this recording. I would hear it many years later, at age 32, while traveling across Australia by train on the Indian Pacific Railway. Thank you Judith, for the music & memories!

In Spanish, this is called a "nana"... Nana means grandmother, or more precisely in this case, what grandmas would sing to send their grandchildren to sleep and no-one but grandmas knew better how to get the kids to sleep... except possibly the Seekers... fairy-tale, timeless and inspirational.

@Jameson Serono Innocence wasn't stolen from the children of those times by avant-garde thinking, that's the peaceful times. I grew up in those times. Vietnam strikes a chord because it was our first TV War and of course it's used by intellectual thinkers...ah, so there you have it. And by the way, I was in the military during the Vietnam, Cold War days (yep, the Cold War went on before, at the same time, and long after Vietnam closed up) and things were mostly peaceful on the home front. People also lived a difficult type of life back then that adds to nostalgia for those times. Unless you lived back then you would not necessarily be able to appreciate the original comment here, so why not berate it.

Lovely haunting voice. There is a short list of singers from this era of that caliber with us. Nicole Grisoni and Rosetta Ardito come to mind. I was surprised to find out Anne Murray is held in very high regard in such places as Bulgaria. I must take a second look at her art. What happens is you take these artists for granted. There are plenty of young singers with stellar talent, even here, such as Jenn Grant, but the corrupt music industry has shut them out. You have to search for them.

Loved this song when l was in my youth. In fact, l used to sing it to my younger siblings to help them sleep, when tired. Still know all the words today. Not as young as l used to be.
Rest in peace Judith. Thank you for the music, and the memories. The voice of the Sixties, and for many generations around the world.
God bless you and keep you safe in heavens Harbour. Safe in the arms of Jesus.
Deepest condolences to the family, the Seekers and Australia at this time. You're all in our thoughts and prayers.

In the 60's when my mother was pregnant with me my monster of a father nearly killed
my older brother Andrew when he was 4
my mother said this song and other songs by the seekers stopped her going crazy
she kept all four of us together on her own with no money no help from any family
I remember when I was very little we all had to hide out in the woods
this song is still like a beacon of hope

All of the Seekers songs were hits in the 60s. I wish they had continued because after they went back to Australia, music veered off in a heavy R&R direction with the Stones and Beatles. I really miss their pure voices and lyrics. Thanks for the post it evokes happy memories of the 60s in England, UK.

I first heard this song from the Irish Rovers back in the early 1970s as a child. It wasn't until years later and I heard this version that I found out The Seekers are the ones who made it famous. What a beautiful song, and a great early music video set on the 'Puffing Billy' steam train.

It's an era that has slipped by so quickly but to be part of this magic time and to have enjoyed the best that modern music has to offer, We were further blessed by groups and people who made up the Seekers, The Beatles, The Hollies, etcccc...but Judith Durham had her own special pedestal...and as pedestals go, room for only one....and as the move title states....TAKEN.! Thank you for the joy, Tears and sheer happiness you gave us. For 79 years there was a blank spot in the sky...now forever Filled.🤣

I was 3 years and 8 months old when I first heard this song. Seriously ill in hospital in Belfast with peritonitis, and hours from death. They played it over the radio in the childrens ward. I can still remember every word and the beautiful melody as if it were yesterday. That was Christmas 1966. I'm still listening and enjoying not that far from Christmas 2020. My thanks and heartfelt gratitude to doctors, nurses and medical staff who saved my young life way back then, and to God Who in His Divine Mercy enabled then to do so.
