- Hi again !
Let’s talk about TRIGGERS !!! 🔥
Massive topic in the Metal Drumming World, despite its ability to divide people's opinions, and making some of them hate about this technology 🤬
I will try to explain how it works, its benefits and usefulness to us, Drummers.
Also, I’ll show you the new FootBlaster Triggers I’m using, which are my personal favorite when it comes to precision and reliability.
These little things are the products of years of research by the man Christian Giusto, Necrosy’s drummer himself !

Youre awesome Thomas!! I love your content man!! I hate when people say "TRIGGERS ARE CHEATING" that clearly tells us that they have no knowledge about triggers lol, triggers dont allow you to just hit your pedal once and produce insane double bass lol, still gotta play everything the same and gotta play TIGHTER because like you said its very easy to hear inconsistencies in the double bass with triggers, awesome video as usual! Love you brother!
Thank you so much !!! I am happy to read this !! :D
Love you man !!
Cheers from France ! \m/
Technically you could have loads of kicks from one strike if the sample has loads of kicks but I agree with ye
Thank you for the explanation!
GamesIntense your welcome !! I hope you understood a little bit more what triggers are :)
Thanks. Will this triggers work with my axis pedals and ddrum module too?
Hey dude love the videos! What is your tension like on the bass drum head and foot pedals? Thanks!
Thank you very much !!!
Well it's simple, the both maxed out ! :D
That was a very informative review, awesome I liked it. What pedal are you using?
I use the Czarcie Kopyto pedals 😉
Great video Thomas!!
Zax Drums thank you man !!
Hi, these videos are amazing!!. Can you share your settings in the Roland TM-2?
This is what he said to me his settings are:
Sens 20
Threshold 4
RetriggCancel 2
Awesome 👍 thank you
nice video! what are your settings in the module? and do your triggers hit before you touch the skin? or only when you dig your feet in to it? i keep having double triggers even when there is a mm space when i hit the head softly.
I hit the trigger when the better is touching the head (my heads are tightened to the maximum, so my beaters aren't digging into the head !
My settings are approximately
Sens 20
Threshold 4
RetriggCancel 2
@ thank you!
can you do some double stroke playing with them where you alternate the audio between trigger and acoustic several times during the play through to hear the difference?
It is something which has been asked several times, and I might do it ! Be patient, I could do it this year if the time lets me ! 😊
that really helped thanks bro
Your welcome man !!! \m/
Happy I can give you some infos you did not know 😊
Nice video man
Can you make once a video of your roland tm 2 modul settings please?
Drummprox 44 thank you man !! I can yes, when I’ll have time I could explain all the settings possible in a drum module, and my personal settings !
Thomas Crémier I need this too. Thanks!
@@velez4ever I'll prepare this one, but now is the time for drum play through of my band 😉
Do not hesitate to come talking on Facebook if you want my settings right now 😉
Thanks for the thorough explaination! I'm not a double bass player (at least not a good one), so I was wondering why (only?) blastbeat/metal guys were putting triggers on their pedals. Why put triggers on the pedals instead of on the drum head? Do you get false triggering when playing faster but with less attack? I'm guessing the lower signal to noise ratio could cause false triggering.... the noise (continued drum resonance) is higher compared to the signal (attack of the stroke) than in a slower more powerful stroke? Initally, I thought the triggers were to layer sounds on top of the drum acoustics, which seemed odd to be so popular. Your explaination of using the trigger to compensate for loss of power makes sense. As far as cheating, of course not... but reminds me of when guys use to say that mesh heads on vdrums were cheating because you could have higher rebound independent of tuning.
You are completely correct !
For years I had triggers one the head, but with time technologies evolved, and the first brand making an external triggers mount on the pedal is Axis with their E-kits which work great !
Having the trigger on the head creates some issues with vibrations, hitting the snare too hard could create a false triggering, playing ultra speeds means less power, so the need to get the sensitivity up, and you find yourself in a vicious circle against false triggering and miss triggering …
With triggers on the pedals you get these issues away, you can but the sensitivity as high as you want without getting noise to trigger the sample 😊
And you can of course use a trigger to blend the acoustic signal and the trigger signal, it adds the consistency of the sample's attack to the acoustic signal which could lack power when playing fast 😊
Let's see it as distortion, or boost pedals for guitar 😉
Hope it makes sense !
Cheers from France, take care !
@ perfectly clear! Thanks for taking the time to clarify.
@@adrumwhisperer My pleasure man ! :D
Take care and be safe !
Nice video. Will use your coupon code if I decide to get footblasters. Just need a few days to think
TheSlayerswe take your time to think about, the coupon will end the 27th ! What concerns do you have ? :)
@ no I'm just deciding whether I want to spend the money, not rich you know. I play an ekit at home but have a band where I play acoustic drums and the roland kick trigger is alittle unsatisfactory.
TheSlayerswe I understand ! It’s the problem we all have in the musical field, great gear costs a lot. The RT-30k is good but has a lot of misfires for my playing, the FootBlaster are more accurate :)
Take your time thinking about it !
Decided to get them. Thanks for the code!
TheSlayerswe Yeah ! Tell me your thoughts when you tried them :)
Where can get some bass drum sample for the trigger modules like Roland tm2
I want a bass drum sample like yours or for the death metal genre
You can find it on the web, just search for "death metal kick sample" you will find a loooooot !
Another solution is to use drums library and select the one you prefer. Some Mix Ready drum libraries are available and kicks sound heavy and powerful already !
You can also check some songs you like and hope there is a kick hit alone 😉
In this video, I use several drum libraries I blend together to obtain a custom multi samples and layered kick sound !
Hope it helps !
@ Thanks a lot!!
Is it possible to use triggers like these work an electronic set, like the alesis strike?
Of course ! You just have to connect it to the drum module and set it correctly ! 😊
I noticed you keep changing your settings on the Kopyto pedals through many videos, im struggling to hit high tempos past 250bpm from following your techniques and settings on the pedals, would these triggers help me cheat the speed so I can get to your level? Lol
Well that's strange because I never changed the settings of my pedals since I found the ones I am comfortable with (ok, maybe just decrease the spring tension of 1 step).
Playing above 250bpm was a big step for me, and I need to be able to play 8th notes at 250+ tempo full leg motion, then to launch the heel-toe technique to play twice as fast !
And no, unfortunately, it's not triggers making the speed … it only helps to have consistency in sound 😉
Keep drumming, you'll get it !
If I play single note on bass drum and set on trigger so the trigger will produce secondary note for double stroke bass drum, doesn't it?
Well… trigger doesn't produce secondary note hahah
You'll have to play the secondary note !
ua-cam.com/video/HuWI3aJzqAU/v-deo.html
Double strokes is the fact to play 2 hits right then 2 hits left !
My left trigger works like a charm and I can easily play up to 290bpm double strokes but with my right trigger it doesn't always register the hit especially if I hit harder. I use footblasters too and I have tried changing the position of the trigger as well as sensitivity but it doesn't help. Do you have any solutions how to fix this?
I am sorry to hear that !
Try to put the right one on the left pedal, and the left one on the right pedal, is it doing the same problem ?
If it's the same thing, you have to work on the precision of your right foot 😊
Hope you'll find out from where comes that issue !
Yeah, I figured it was the retrig cancel messing things up
@@thejontte4394 That's a good news !!! Means it wasn't your technique, not your trigger !! 😊
We can say that footblasters are better than bass triggers or they work fairly the same?
I can tell you that it's really better because thanks to its construction, it won't have any false triggering coming from the vibration of another shell. It will only trigger the sample only when the footboard hits the sensor. It is really a different vision, and I really prefer !
@ Thanks, it makes more sense now when you mentioned the false triggering, making a clean signal. (Question) What you will use as triggers having an acoustic drum set with mesh heads?
@@JoeyRam. I am still using the FootBlaster triggers ! They are so precise !
what is them music in the background?
Unfortunately it Is a song I composed with a friend of mine, but the project has stopped … and won't restart !
But if you really want to have that song, give me your email address, I'll send the track demo to you !
Cheers !
@ yes please antoniogmvelez@gmail.com
What module?
Everything is listed on the description :
Roland TM-2
Thank you for video, you are really extremely drummer. High quality drumming! But i have a trouble with discount code. Coupon "thomas" does not exist!
Thank you for your kind words ! Please try with the « Thomas » with a capital T !
If it doesn’t work, I’m going to check with FootBlaster directly, but it should work :)
Coupon is working !! You can try again and you’ll see it appears 😉
nicee
Anoltha Sinuhaji thx man !
Antis nat chitin atol. I love technotronic exilint dramer
What do you mean by that ? :)
Tu me fais penser à Mario Duplantier
Dans quel sens ? 😊
(C'est une de mes icônes de la Batterie, et c'est surtout lui qui m'a donné envie de jouer de cet instrument quand j'étais tout jeune…)
@ ton style à la double et le coté frenchy, of course ;-).
If youre an alien you can hit strongly even if you play fast. Just look at krimhs drumming
That's called down to earth, advertising another drummer🥺
Krimh is one of the most hard hitter of the metal drummers out here ! So yeah, I want to let the people know it is possible 😊
give away double pedal thomas i vans you from indonesian hehehe
Just saw your video... thomas does not work on The site
Thanks for watching ! What is "The Site" ?
No wonder death metal has fucking sucked since the early 90s
Ahaha taste and colours, and triggers exist and are used for so long, you would be surprised of how often triggers / samples replacement are used in the metal industry !
So it is cheating in other words...
Is it cheating to use amplifier with electric guitars ? ^^
@ Abso Lutely! I play guitar as well, and there's a lot of fuckers out there that can't play shit on clean or acoustic, but give them three loopers, delay and distortion and become Gods in an instant!!! hahaha just being a typical "triggers are cheating" drum snob ✌😂
If youre an alien you can hit strongly even if you play fast. Just look at krimhs drumming
That's called down to earth, advertising another drummer🥺
Of course, and Krimh is an excellent drummer, so for those who don't know him, you need to check him out ! 😊
