Your suit oxygen refills when in an oxygen rich environment. No more suffocating on earth. Its been like that for a while now
“Do you want an assembly or do you want a refinery? You gonna want both”, lol
GPS your spot and turn off everything to conserve power. That way you can always find your way home without power at the pod on.
I did a trench at the beginning and rolled all the ore down the hill back to the drop pod. If you empty out your inventory you'll have a dozen or so giant boulders at the bottom to feed into the refinery.

@@giddyupboah2457 Only not. In fact, it is not mentioned in the Scriptures. In the old days, not everyone had their own scriptures, so maybe they were not informed, for example
@@_JustynkaPL Not entirely sure what you mean, but the idea that the Earth orbited the Sun was classed as heresy by the church, only in 1758 did they decide that is was not heretical. In 1992 the Vatican admitted that Galileo was right. So the church most definitely did believe the sun orbited around the earth. That doesn't mean that everyone nor every branch of the church held these same beliefs.

I remember playing the crashed red ship when this first came out. I spent endless hours breaking that fucker down.. it was great!
I rebuilt it, with great care and high hopes. Overloaded it with Ion thrusters so it could land on Earthlike. It succeeded! And then I got bored and lost the save. ;)
Yeah i watched a series who SURVivED A ARMAGEDDON METEOR MODE FOR PERMADEATH NAMED NERD3
SERIOUSLY awesome

You can find ice like an ore
@@desireable9128thx
i have to make a new world because mine autosaved imediatly
I have explored all around my pod, no ice, not any, not even an ore pocket. All I can see is a mountain with some snow on top and that’s over 9kms out, which is hard to do without a Jetpack, what do I do.

My Captain,My Captain! That is exactly what I wanted as I'm just starting!
hah I just subscribed him for this video
I've got about 400 hours in this game, know a lot about it, and am helping friends get into it.
Yet, I also watch this tutorial as if I am going to learn more stuff.
It is damn entertaining, though
I just re-installed the game after not playing it for 8 months. And I see this video after I've but another 10 hours into my game...landed on the polar ice cap :)
Its fun for a bit then you start to get bored then you install mods to try to make it fun and have a reason to build guns with your buddy then you both get bored because the A.I you added still isnt enough challenge nor reason enough to continue and then you drop the game and play something better and hope they fix the game further vs nickle and diming us with dlc which is a joke in itself.
No U you a real one homie
One valid tip us SE veterans often don't consider, is that "Interior Wall" blocks take considerably less resources to build than light armour blocks. In the old days we all avoided them due to them having weird balance (cost more, heavier, and were a pain to build), but in balance patches since then they've been improved and are well worth using if you want to save on resources.
Sorry Shack but keeping your helmet closed does not use O2 anymore. They fixed that almost a year ago.
If your in a pressurises suit it should run out of o2 if you don’t open it though...No?
@j because for re-pressurisation purposes, the helmet could, instead of asking you to open the visor, open a vent if it detects the atmosphere is breathable
hombreg1 the suit might absorb oxygen from the environment so that’s probably why the devs did that
Love this, it can be hard to get started and it’s been the only real deterrent for me getting started in the game.
And once you get started and get to space its kinda a well what do I do now situation and you quit out of boredom.
I just passed the 7000 hour mark and SE is still entertaining. Tutorial videos like this one are why I ended up subbing to Captain Shack in the first place back in the day. For anyone new to SE I can seriously recommend the ARMCO community. There are so many veteran players willing to help, including some of the top modders and I have yet to see the slightest whiff of any snobbery which some games can attract from vets towards new players.
this video randomly showed up for me and im glad it did. it looks so interesting! i just bought it on steam and cant wait to play/stream it :P
Been interested in a base building game since playing Fallout 76 recently and falling in love with building stuff again. Did a quick search, found this vid, and I gotta say that you're incredibly informative and easy to follow. So, nice job man
I’ve been following you because of this game, seeing this actually brought a tear to my eyes and a ton of nostalgia. The survival series was always my favorite, and as I’ve gotten back into the game due to official release, I’ve been looking at these awesome uploads.
Can’t wait for more.
Thank you so much for this video! Just bought Space Engineers for my Series X, and your survival tutorial is great! Easy to follow, and enhanced by your attitude towards the game. I'm off to watch Tutorial #2. By the end of the video, I ran out of Ice and I had to travel 25km to the nearest snowy mountains....and 25km back. After three tries and reloading a save, I was able to jetpack over and back on a single H2 bottle....my last one. I couldn't find any lakes lol. Time to build a cargo truck!
Thank you for this tutorial! I reccomend this to my friend because he was just starting and it helped him. We now have an awesome survival world.
@7:33 ahahaha, "we can engineer our way in [and out] of problems"
Yes, yes I have definitely engineered my way into many problems, I appreciate the warning.
(returning-after-a-long-break type of player here, thanks for the tutorial, very well made, it was a helpful refresher to me! ^^)
This series is totally under rated. The amount of planning, writing and coordination that went into this is incredible! Jack, I hope you never stop making story’s and universes!
I played way back and was always confused.. I remember how I flew around the red ship and ground some of it, then got bored and moved to the scenario with the big ships which was alot of fun but I ended up just fighting pirates with the fighter. I abandoned the game after that because I didn't get great performance out of my crappy laptop.
fast forward to just a few days ago and I picked it up again, and joined a server to start new. I landed in the earth pod and asked around for how I could get resources and people told me that the drill had an ore detector. I mined a few resources and saw that I needed a refinery to make ingots. I tried building it with materials I gathered from a nearby drop but I saw that I just had too few mats for the whole infrastructure around the refinery and changed to another server, where I was met by a faction that wanted to conquer the moon. They had alot of resources and one of these repair and break down machines, which I built a miner with and am now serving in their mission to control the moon.
If I had known how to use the survival kit to make ores I wouldn't be trying to conquer the moon right now
this is how ignorance leads to violence and destruction...^^

or just watch a tutorial :D
I'm not sure I see the problem here. Conquering the moon seems like a pretty worthwhile endeavor to me.
LOL
So... the moral of the story is, you shouldn't try to learn to play the game, as your ignorance will guide you to a path of great conquests, glory and success!
Just started Space Engineers, had no fecking clue on what to do... then watched this video. So intuitive and has got me off to a flying start. Thank you for this video :) Subbed!
I use to play when the game first came out. With over 1700 hours of play and tons of time spent building and coding mod assets, it feels good to come back. :) Your video was pleasant to watch which made it bearable at an hour long, lol. It was a very nice refresher. Thank you for the tutorial. You were very fluent moving from subject to subject. :)
This has come at just the right time i was thinking of starting up a new game, Great video look forward to the rest!
Hi Capt, I've been playing SE since 2016. This is an awesome video for new players, especially since now started playing SE MP with a friend that I got into SE! Looking forward to future tutorials!
ah... crashed red ship.. i remember that as the start of a very old survival rp series you did a long time ago.. wonderful times those were

I watched those when I was first starting the game like 4 or 5 years ago. I recently got back into space engineers and I watched the whole series in like a day.
"I'm gonna edit this out" he sings. ^Doesn't Edit it* XD
I think he actually edited it in, specifically.
thats the joke

First time watching you and it was an immediate subscribe. I've been thinking about getting back into SE for awhile and you are the one that is going to be guiding me along the way.
Really enjoy your SE videos. First started playing and watching you when you were doing the Engineer Corps, which is still one of my favorite SE video series. hope to see more.
Finally bought it on Xbox. Thank you for this it was confusing me a lot at first but now I'm ready to get into it
i cant believe im following you for 5 years now your videos helped me through good and bad times and even 5 years later i still love your content and Space Engineers thx Cap
Glad I could help. Happy to hear my content has made a positive impact. :D
@@CaptainShack yes especially Group Survival i rewatch it at least once a year R5 is my favourite Character
I've been watching you for years and I finally get to play the game, you are amazing
I bought this game after seeing this tutorial. then booted up and played along with you! Fantastic job....but now the universe seems so big! lol
Your videos got me into this game after thinking it was too complicated for years, THANKS!
So I am brand new here, I haven't bought the game just yet, but I was in the Microsoft Store, and I am considering it, I watched this tutorial to see if it would be something I enjoyed. Which I will be buying it as I relate this game to Ark Survival Evolved... Reason for my comment is more so this part here, I wanted to compliment you on your tutorial as you go into detail, you EXPLAIN things in direct detail as to why or why not do something/get something etc. the explaining part is what hooked me, You talk clearly, and slowly which are also beautiful for this tutorial.... so I needed to give you feedback on what I thought was a FABULOUS job... I hope at some point you see this post and read it, because how you do your tutorials in my opinion works VERY well.... Kudos to you
I have many years experience of playing this game, but there is always good to see your videos :)
All of this funny moments ;)
I have waited a long time for this, thank you Captain Shack!

Man I wish I was taught this from the get go. My first time playing this and my damn drop pod flipped over, and I thought "Guess I'll just have to deal with this." Played from there until I managed to reach space.
Ok, I'm pretty much in love with this vid. Funny and informative, the great union! Thanks for this.
Your the only channel that actually helped I brought the game as this seemed to be an awsome game many friends also suggested it but I Coudnt get my head around anything but this is really helpful even down to the menu setup so thank you so much
I'm so fucking stupid. I didn't know I can just use the survival kit to melt resource. I dissembled my whole landing pod and waited for those green unknown signal things to land. This tutorial really helped me out unlike the in-game tutorials! Thank you :)
last time i played this was in 2014. you got me to install it again. i'm as excited as the first time i tried it.
I needed this since I have xbox and my friends want to play this a lot thank you Captain and good luck with the future work
same
Hopefully you own a keyboard or the game is unplayable
I actually don't and when get a hand of everything it's pretty easy I just wish the player count was more
@@fireboymilton2611 multiplayer is so unoptimized as well
@@founderoftheempire8589 Not had any issue with a controller yet, only issues we've been having is that we keep meshing though the ground and end up falling though the fucking planet, we are currently on the moon which seems to be actually working out, another issue is connection issues here and there but a restart fixes it when it gets bad, seems that the longer the game goes the worse it gets till you "refresh" the world.
Thank you shack, watching space engineers and playing it are definetly 2 different things, thanks to you I now know how to properly set up a starting base, i was using solar power......wind is far better.👏👏
Was thinking about getting this game, wit these videos im sold on it now thanks man!
This has helped me immensely , thank you. 🙏🏻
Played this back in the day, thought my base was safe with two automated missile turrets but nope one ship just wrecked me and since haven't played it. looks like its changed a lot so will probably get back into it. Thank you for the awesome tutorial.
Build underground if you are at risk of being attacked. Much saver to live in a cave.

Hey I just got into space engineers n your videos helped out a lot!!
Best tutorial for this game.
Thanks man.
I enjoy your commentary, very nice and informative.
Excellent tutorial ! very clear ! keep going sir you're a beast !
Pretty neat video, Im glad the game is finally on xbox- been waiting for awhile.
Normal Survival Engineers: "Okay lets make a quick base set up so we can quickly get working on more helpful things"
Captain Shack: "Lets make a f*cking mansion"
Remember that time where you had to fly around in the earth lander just to find a good spot to put up a base? I remember doing that for 50 hours or so.. maybe the dirt turning into iron and such was not a thing yet or I was just an idiot but one things for sure! I still have no idea what I'm doing
Shack, I've been in Brazil, away from UA-cam for about 4.5 months now. It's good to hear your voice
this tutorial was super helpful for me and my friend! thanks!
I have needed this guide. Cos I have had this game for months, and avoided it, cos I didn't know what to do. Now, I might go back to it
Heh, that IS a very familiar lake. I spawn almost on that lake every time!
Thank you so much for this. Just got this on xbox and the start is overwhelming. I figured out how to get ingots and stuff but no idea how to build bases. Ty
Hi Shack, just bought the game and loving it! Also downloaded the empire StarWars mods from ARMCO and it is very kewl, created a little scenario, stranded scientist marooned after the destruction of the second death star, landed on an icy moon, this is where the fun begins, hope there is no wampas...Excellent video, very instructive and useful, keep it up!
best beginner guide so far. subbed!
I challenged myself by starting a Star System map with Economy enabled, wolves, spiders and drones disabled, Unknown signals enabled at first for the components and credits, and I spawn in with no ship, no tools, no nothing except the $10,000 space credits the scenario gives all players. It's really rough starting out, you may die a few times just trying to find a Trading Station at the start, but once you find one, it will become your lifeline until you can slowly start building your resources up.
Collect resources close to the Station, and sell them if you can, otherwise, just collect parts from Unknown Signals, check the loot in the station about every 10 or 15 minutes, because the loot respawns. Soon you'll be able to complete simple "acquisition" contracts that will earn you money, use that money to buy a ship, if ships are not sold, then build a basic rover to scout the planet for other stations.
I'm a real challenge. You'll find tools in the station lockers, and you may get lucky and be able to buy some tools if sold at that particular station.
I was interested in this game and now i am sold
You should do a video recommending the best mods for beginners because I know that’s an area this game excels at but I don’t really know where to start.
Yes please do this
Thank you for this awesome tutorial👏👍👌👋
suddenly got the urge to install this old game.
it actually looks much better than when i originally played it.
The SCV reference FTW!!! “I can’t build there!”
loved your video very clear audio good video
Keep up the good work cap
Good job...let's do another lol...I'm ready...downloading now
Go in to controls and turn things off on the drop ship until you need them. O2/H generator being off except for the 5 seconds you need it to fill tanks will make the drop pods battery last multiple days of playing vs a few hours if you leave it on all the time..No.2 Disassemble extra Enhanced welders & grinders and hunt unknown for the one that flys away from you. Shoot the thruster with the gun under the seat and grind the thruster down, this will all get you cobalt so you can make grids for storage. Very useful if you have no cobalt mines in the ground on in a lake found. No.3 Press "Enter" type "/gps Mine name" to easily name your ore to find it again
Just got Space Engineers, can't wait to know what I'm doing
Nice guide!
Hey man, you got me ono SE when you were making your "earth that was" series with valfore alty and tabby and been following the game since :p
Awesome, now we can all crash like the pros!
Once you get a basic base, i always go for making a quick portable miner. This helps with all the time spend using a drill.
thank you for this tutorial !
I always found "space pod" to be the easiest start. Sure, you have limited oxygen, but what is on the ship can last hours. More than enough time to find ice. Also don't have all that pesky gravity to contend with.
Hey Shack! Thanks alot for doing thus series! I myself have never been able to wrap my head around the neceseties of a survival (non-native speaker) start and this video has helped me alot with that! One question though, what are those unknown signals? What do they do?
Again, thanks for the vid!
They’re little pods that drop periodically, they have buttons on them for consmetics and sometimes they have small cargo containers. It’s almost always a good idea to tear them apart for steel plates in the beginning
You hit that tree so hard it fell XD
If it autosaves before you decide to leave your drop area. Go into the pod, press Y (on PC) to turn off the vehicle or toggle off the survival kit, then Backspace to respawn.
Great job! Hope your channel does well.
ty for the help
1. I like the video. 2. it killed my soul you didn't use the periodic table to name ores. 3. use welders attached to cargo to weld up the more expensive base units like full sized assemblers and refineries. 4. lights on base towers (13 blocks tall and wide to get full wind) have saved me when I forgot to set a GPS waypoint.
Cheers for this, just got it on Xbox and kind of baffled on what to do.
Fun Fact: Using the thruster on the bottom of the earth rover, you can leave its atmosphere. If aimed correctly it is possible to enter Earth's atmosphere, and through some luck, you can fall down the side of a mountain, and use the wheels to slow yourself down
yes i have indeed done this
It would be super cool for you to host a game for new people and we can play together. I have owned the game since it was first released and it has changed so much. I haven't touched it in years. It's super daunting. Thanks for the Video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Luv your space engineer series. Only wish W4 was their to help out and that it was a bit longer time wise.
Very good 👍.Do it more.
I’m subscribing just because he’s so friendly
I love to see basic base made with small blocks.
Thank you!
Very well done Shack. When we need to know how to die and respawn, we can always count on you :p
When talking about experts on dying and respawning you must never forget Capac
Edit: Spelling
Great video just what I needed thanks a some people make a drilling rigs I will later on all right one I will first make a roll over I love you put a drill on the front of it this one was so fun I'm playing on Xbox one else the old Xbox One one terabyte I only watch one tutorial but I figure out how to do selfie on a screen even though you're not doing next box so I can still figure out what to do with it Carol I'm not stupid
thanks i had forgot how to play it had been so long
Just to say.. Every block does not have a small and large variant. Small conveyors are just one :) And. They are defined as small grid and large grid. Took me a long time to understand that hehe.
Make this into a series!!
You sound like the type of guy I would play with even though I started playing this game 3 years ago.
