Such a beautiful prop and interesting information on the frames, thanks for sharing that!
For embossing the text you can:
1. Use your Cricut to cut the text from cardstock in the same font and the same size as what you want foiled.
2. Use a manual die cutting/embossing machine to emboss those letters into your project. For a project the size of the book cover you will need a machine with a wide enough opening. There are several on the market that have a 12" opening. They're not cheap.
3. I think that running it through the Minc will flatten the embossing so it would have to be done after the foiling.
3. I know I didn't explain this well but look up "dry embossing with die cuts" to see what I mean.
I'll look into that method - thanks!
Having met Mr Lockhart at a book signing, I personally wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw a Garden Troll, I'm sure many of his fans would disagree.
You’re truly magic, Danny!
Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Another fantastic DIY by a very talented wizard! Thank You
This bookcover looks so gorgeous and professional🤩
Fabulous job and well done finding those gold frames ✨
Thanks! I was lucky - I just stumbled upon them.
Love this 😍😍looks SO good!
One thing you can do. Get another copy of the cover and cut out the words and add them to cardboard or heavy stock. Then seal the sides with glue. Then lay the gold over. I've done it before with other things for model bases. It takes a little time, but the results are awesome.
Absolutely gorgeous prop!
Thank you so much! I just love my boy Gilderoy
OUTSTANDING. I really love this.
I love it! It looks really cool
🤩⭐⚡🙌 Thankyou so much for sharing ,Danny!! Another amazing DIY⭐⭐I absolutely love the book cover and your detailed research content . It's fascinating to learn about the original designs created by Mina Lima and imagine them 20 years ago putting these props together under pressure . I'm an artist and designer, though my area is fine art, clothing and costume and I'm not very good at graphic design. I love your designs and You inspire me to push myself out of my comfort zone 😆. I'm really looking forward having a go at this and excited for the Patreon content 👏👏✨
I think this book cover looks amazing. Thank you for sharing
OMG this was absolutely amazing. You are s talented and never fail to amaze me with your idea's.
Hi, I just discovered your videos, I am soooo going to do all the book replicas you have, being a real bookworm these have become a must have.
Thank you for sharing
This wa so very cool to watch and the book came out AMAZINGLY !!!!!!
Love what u created with the Magical Me book.
It’s so beautiful! 😍🤩
Danny you are so amazing!
Danny can you do a Mirror of Erised DIY ? It would be so cool like a cut out to put onto a regular mirror at home .
It would be amazing to see you making animated paintings! ;)
looks great
Hi Danny! Here's an idea... Could consider making a wizard's chess DIY replica?? It would be awesome!
PS: I am a fan of your videos...
Well it's beautiful !😍
I’m not sure if you mentioned this already or not but the cricut has an embossing tool you can use. And maybe it’s a different model, but that could be a good option. And if that’s what you were discussing with the wood and metal I apologize. Although some foam beneath the paper might be a good option. Thanks for these I love to watch them with my kids, and we make some of them for holiday decorations and parties 😊
It's awesome. I love it so much 🥰👍🏻
You should mold and cast those frames for people to buy for their own!:)
Omg yay!!! You did it 🤩🤩🙂
How is the Advanced Potion Making writing going? Sorry if thts an annoying question, but ive been so excited since i found out that was ur plan
Hi Danny! Wondering when you are posting your next graphic design video because I am recently been getting into that. I actually designed the map of Kumandra I suggested a month or so ago and it came out great! So thank you for inspiring me to try. Also, I'll bet you could cut some frame similar out of cardstock with a Cricut!
Hi! Yes, you could cut a similar shape with a cricut, but the tricky part is the embossing. And the next design lesson video will be soon ‐ probably next week!
OMG Danny! I have recently been thinking through how I would create this cover. I had planned to buy pebbled faux leather to cover the book in and then cut out the spot where the picture would go. I was thinking of stretching on the the title so I would raised.
Do a hand of glory craft with clay and wire
I absolutely love these! I have a set of those Dresden frames from the same Etsy seller. I bought mine years ago for this project but could never track down the background image for the cover. Are you going to offer printed versions of the cover? I don’t have access to gold foiling
The frames are great! I do have a version of the cover that includes the frames, printed. It's in the zip file download.
So posh, Great job ! I think i would use patina on the frame to make it less glowin and add more depth.
That would be cool to see what it looks like! The movie prop is bright gold.
if it helps, i believe you can see the actual footage of gilderoy lockhart's book cover at universal orlando, but i don't remember. if you can, you can probably record it from there and edit it. obviously, easier said than done and that's assuming it's there.
Maybe you can use your 3D printer to recreate those gold frames.
Lockhart reminds me of Zapp Branagan
is there a way to make it ventricular? regardless its very cool
I'd say photogrammerty for 3D printing in resin. If you don't have one or access to one I have a Elegoo Mars and 3 Saturn printers.
Wow...
Hey Danny I’m making the daily prophet replica. Can you give a file with just the background texture? So I can bind the two sheets together with.
Also, the file with background missed the extra ministry notice. Can you add that? Thanks. 11x17
I can't speak on whether or not this would look professional, but after foiling if you flipped it over and ran over the back of the text and gold details with a dotting tool or pen nub, it may give you a little bit of the "emboss" indent you are looking for.
I considered doing it by hand, but I would want perfection and my hands aren't steady enough.
Could the frames be 3d scanned and then 3d printed and painted?
Danny, why not use rubber cement instead of the GemTac? And have you thought about making an STL file and selling 3D printed replicas of the frames??
You could use rubber cement. I chose gemtac because I had some and there are no fumes. I don't think the frame would work in plastic, but that's a good idea to recreate the relief.
Love this! the file link is not working for me - do you still have the files available? :)
I do have the problem as well😢
the download link on your website is for the 54 question test, not the book cover.
Danny, do you have a resin 3D printer? I bet if you made a negative and positive relief of that text with a certain tolerance, you could get a great embossed effect.
I don't have a 3D printer, but I'm feeling more and more like I should get one.
@@wizardryworkshop it's definitely worth the expense and learning curve for prop making. I'd recommend resin (SLA) 3D printing. Resin prints can be more fragile, but the detail is amazing.
I've looked into it. Resin also uses dangerous chemicals too, right? From what I've read anyway. I don't have any ventilation in my studio.
@@wizardryworkshop the resin fumes can be irritating to your respiratory system. I don't have ventilation in my studio either. What I do is use a respirator and disposable gloves while working with the resin. While the lid is closed, it is not noticeable if you have one of the newer printers with a gasket seal. On top of the that, I use carbon filters in and near the printer to filter the fumes. Once your done printing, just don the respirator again during cleanup. After that, there is no smell or residue.
Ok, cool. So that wouldn't be a big issue. The other thing with resin is, the printable area is much smaller than others, and if you want a lage area to print with resin, it gets quite pricey.
I’m not currently on patreon (I have been in the past) but when will the special post being going up?
Probably tomorrow - I need to get the files finished and uploaded.
@@wizardryworkshop can’t wait! Have rejoined to get some other stuff as well ☺️
Hi uhmm... can you please make an O.W.L Examination Result card?
‘’ Gliderloy Lockhart, Order Of Merlin third class, Ordinary Member Of The Dark Force Defensively and 5 times winner of Smile Charming Reward “
I just looked & they are still for sale on Etsy via Dresden frames for x2 £3.80
If they were there when you looked, they are gone now.
I have some ideas on how to emboss without it looking like a Pinterest fail.
1. You could cut the areas into sponge rubber ( cardboard might be better, but I don't know if the paper might rip) and use both sides.. so to speak. Glue the cut out areas to one base and the rest to another. You should be able to sandwich the paper in between both and run them through some press.
2. You could but fotocromic stamp making plate and "print" the image to the plate (you can find tutorials on UA-cam). Once set with UV light you could wash off the areas that were not set and you will have a rubber stamp with the embossing image, that you can use over and over again.
All ideas are just ideas. I have not tried any of these.... And they are all really complicated... But since you wanted to use a raspberry pi just to have a moving picture on the cover, I'm sure, you are up to the task 😁
I'm thinking about making a 3d file of the relief, 3d printing it, and making my own frames with it. The same might work for embossing the foil.
@@wizardryworkshop that would work great. I tried to think about stuff you already own... Will you try resin printer or the filament ones?
@@Aegopodium I'm not sure, I'm still looking into it. Any suggestions?
@@wizardryworkshop I was told that the results of resin printers are a lot smoother and detailed, but costs are really high. The time factor is intense in both systems. There is more work in cleaning and curing the resin. I have talked to my brother who owns a filament one and is planning on purchasing a resin one in near future. You can get a really good idea of the different systems by watching Adam Savage's Tested.
@@wizardryworkshop I just remembered that there is another techniques you could use: you could get a laser plotter. These things are insane, as you can cut all kinds of materials!
Are you now feeling ok
Buy a rubber stamp frame, emboss in gold
Embossing powder doesn't make the mark when it comes to professional looking embossing.
Maybe using a CRICUT or other die cutting machine may be able to cut them out.
Have you read the books?
Of course
@@wizardryworkshop oh ok
Hey, Danny! It will be nice if you do a complete, realistic-looking collection of all chocolate frog cards! All we have today are some cartoonish versions from Harry Potter games. See here: harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Chocolate_Frog_Card
Another nice resource: fortheloveofharry.com/list-of-all-chocolate-frog-cards/
And another cool idea is to build an album/book for us to keep our collection!
You can split this project into several videos, such as: "Chocolate Frog Cards - Part 1"; because there are lots of cards
link for template is not working :(
How so?
@@wizardryworkshop Im trying to do my own project, but how did u got photos?
@@cptshooter you said the link isn't working for you. What problem are you having?
@@wizardryworkshop after clicking on link there is 404, I have found it by myself on page using search but link to download gives Gimp Potion Label Template.
@@wizardryworkshop i was going to say the same thing, i tried downloading the file and is "the Gimp Potion Label Template", if you can solve it, it would me amazing! thanks for all the hard work!
