Don't forget why it is a mess to get it neat and tidy it requires a lot more money with more switches and patch panels. Also with those cheap rack mount non keystone patch panels, you have no choice to strip the sheath back and have the conductors exposed, you need 8-10cm of length to terminate them. The keystone rj45 can be rather expensive each too.
I just did one like that last week in Alabama. Took a full week to retrofit and replace the network, WiFi, Access, and cameras, but in the end it went well!
What a mess before you got there. So much better after you cleaned it up. I can't imagine how the previous installer/cabler though that CAT5 (>=) cable can be stripped and terminated in that manner. In what world does that even look close to being correct? Absolutely blows my mind. Nonetheless, excellent work - and great video!
Looks great as always! You are quickly becoming on of my favorite installers. The aesthestics and fine details are what set you apart. Great job buddy.
Another Great job for you Customers Cody. After working in Telecom for 40 year before Internet being added to the comm Rooms Nice to see you look at the future for your customers too plan for more future needs.
Been following you now for a while, and honestly, regardless of the certifications I have, and plan on getting in the future, what you do, truly is a dream job for me. I love working with my hands :D Good job!!
I'm just getting into networking myself and I groaned at that back cable mgmt. Good choice of background music and well presented vid too. Keep it up brother 👍
The company I switched to, all the cabling is a disaster. They left 2' in the drop ceiling and put a RJ 45 on directly into the switch sitting on a ceiling tile. The jacks in the walls are stripped just like yours but they unwrapped the twists.... I installed a 12u rack and made patch cables with keystones on each end. Panel now looks nice and organized but uptop looks a little sketch with 20 keystones all hanging out 😂
Love the work man, I find it hard over here in Ireland as most places are happy enough with their current Hikvision & other brands, I have not seen Ubiquiti cameras anywhere!
Great job buddy! I had a client that did not want to pay for the clean up and eventually I walked away from that project. It was even worse than yours.
Hey Cody, aside from the grommet do you put in any dielectric grease? I've done this with my outdoor cams - nothing crazy just some inside the jack before terminating the wires and then a coat around the RJ45 port to prevent water from seeping in. Just wondering if it's overkill.
Hi Cody, do other contracters reach out to you and say thank you for making there job easier in future when they find it so tidy and clean, because i assume not all contractors work like this clean and future proofing as you do or is it a normal thing for other contractors to work also so clean and future proofing and its only a mess when non professionals started to do things..
Love your videos. I have a Lorex system at the moment but im thinking of upgrading to two AI pros and 6 G5 Pros. could you do a review on these cameras please?
Hope someone clears all that stuff off that transformer. As an electrical loss prevention specialist for an insurance company I once visited a hospital where they had all the buildings blueprints stacked on a transformer. When they removed them, they found the ones directly in contact with the transformer housing were chard.
It's great seeing the professional way you handled this job! Would love to see a video on how you handle new business. Is it all organic or mostly repeat customers? What have you found that works well?
You mention the unvr is at capacity, how many and what cameras is it running? Nice tidy up. Client should take you up on getting space back into that room
I wonder if Marine Dielectric Grease in the RJ45 outside would eliminate any corrosion problems in the future? Great job making this video. Nice to see a Canadian. Hello from PEI! 😀
What would be really nice is if they fix up teir system so you can actually use the RSTP streams that are built in for substreaming and the option of staff accounts that can only view live feed not have access to recordings there are so much they need to fix in their product
1) If someone trips in that cable mess your client could also be sued. 2) tidying this up will cost less in the long run for your client, those non compliant cables will cause issues and that’s more call outs. 3) insurance, a broker or claim assessment go give out an unfavourable impression and jack up your insurance cost or even be denied a claim for not having compliant cabling
In the controller go to unifi devices in the left side bar, select your gateway in the list and then in the right side bar you should see port manager. Click that and then once you can see the list of ports click on one of the WAN ports. You should then see config for the interfaces and which ports are LAN and WAN. If you are using an older USG you need to click on settings on the right panel and then configure interfaces.
Have you had issues with the unvr4 failing? I have had probably 10 fail outright, and maybe a dozen more stuck in bootloop with protect stopping constantly.
I should probably make a video on this. We charge a set rate for the cat 6 cables ( it’s going to be different around the world) but typically between $130-$160 per run cat 6 plenum ( Canadian) The rest would really just be time . So how many hours it takes to put the cameras up times our labour rate
From my experience, if water is tracking down the cable into that camera, the grommet alone may not be sufficient to prevent future water ingress. I feel that poor waterproofing is the biggest problem with UniFi bulletin cams.
For the camera that got fried because of improper installation, it appears to be a G4 as you said, why did you replace it with a G4 Bullet and not a G5 Bullet? As you well know, other than the metal construction the G5 bullet is cheaper and a newer model.
Is there a way to have the unifi phones be able to notify you if they swipe the doorbell? You get notification on your computer and the mobile app but I was curious if there was a way for the unifi access on the Unifi Phone to notify you. I know you can unlock the door from the phone and view the cameras from the phone but im having trouble with the notification system
In the US it is illegal to place cameras facing bathroom or shower/locker room doors. Hallway to it is iffy depending where you are. This comes from talking to many business owners i know that have commercial and industrial properties across most of the US. A few have had lawsuits regarding cameras facing problematic bathrooms and locker rooms. In my area it is illegal to place cameras facing bathroom doors, locker room doors or shower room doors, unless you have permission from a local judge and a few signatures to make it "legit and legal".
This video is from Canada. It is illegal to place it inside washrooms, locker rooms, etc. in Canada but it is perfectly legal to place cams just outside at the entry/exit points as long long as the cams cannot viewed into the locker room/washroom. Placing cameras outside but near a washroom is just like placing a cam inside any public access buildings.
At 7:10 you say that the UNVR is overloaded, however there is 4-8 cameras shown in the video apparently patched through to the switch.. Can you explain in more details exactly how the UNVR is overloaded in the configuration that you have shown? I am considering a purchase, however if it cannot record 4-8 cameras without issue the it is a no go. Or am I mistaken in the amount of the cameras in the system? Thank you!! Eidt: 7:10 {7:44}
@@MactelecomNetworks glad to hear everything is fine. Sorry such direct question Always seem a little brash, i did Not know how to Word it better. Always enjoy your videos
Why would you change the previously PROPERLY configured network topography by moving the UNVR uplink from the USW to the UDM. So the UNVR can get what, a 10Gbps link to the UDM, but only a 1Gbps link to the USW (where the cameras are) or a 1Gbps link to the internet? You didn't gain anything, and now you're unnecessarily putting the camera data across the UDM rather than just keeping it all on the USW. Dumb.
Why a 2nd NVR? Why not just use the larger NVR they make and sell off that smaller one? Seems like extra processing being sent through the switches having two chipsets separated vs one bigger chipset in the bigger NVR. Just thinking about how to save and prioritize bandwidth.
That was nice that the kitty let you add all this cabling and camera extra stuff into its video!
👌

Why install another nvr vs swapping out to an nvr pro? Wont managing two separate protect instances be a bit of a pain? (never done it)

Thanks. The customer already had all bullets and prefers them
Do you have specific color coding on patch cables that you use? blue for cameras, white office devices? red for WAN connections and so on???

Are there any heat problems when all those Unifi rack mount devices so close to each other in one rack? Or is the rack equipped with cooling fans?
Nice job. Curious if this was done during the work day? If this was just the camera job, I say 'yes' but did you end up interrupting anything?
This was done during the day. No interruption other than cameras going down for about 5 minutes. This is just for the building cameras

Grommet for G5 Bullet camera? Could You please share the details of this to protect from the potential water damage?
See the Unifi NVRs have the ports on the back of the device, how have you been connecting it with everything else? Directly to switch/udm?

General question, what happens with the old gear you are taking out of prople's network setup?
Do you resell it on ebay or do they go into the trash?

G4 Dome cameras seem like the better option for these ceiling mounted locations. Is there some reason you’re using Bullets?
We didn’t do the original install at this location the bullets were already onsite.
