    If anyone from Ubiquiti or Rack Studs is out there, a great product collaboration idea is to make Unifi Silver Rack Studs and add them to the box of all Unifi products or buy them as packs. This new switch is sweet; I would love to see an 8 and 16 port, all 2.5G POE++ version. Then you could keep the new U7-Pro APs all on one switch.

    • @webluke
      @webluke 11 місяців тому +1

      I would also like to see the options for each network to have different speed options or have an expected speed setting and a not at the expected speed. So if you had your back hall network and the speed should be 10G but is running at 1G, the color could be red, showing there is a problem with either cables or devices.

    The RGB is cool but the switch should be more of an upgrade than half an upgrade with fancy lights. I would have like to see all 24 ports 2.5GbE and support for POE++ or at least half POE+ and the other half POE++ with RGB lights. And they should have included a mini RPS cable with it like you get with the RPS itself!

      To be fair there are many more PoE++ ports than the previous enterprise 24 but you are right that the entire switch should be 2.5GbE

    I really hope for an update to the Dream Machine Pro SE so that it is possible to turn the port activity LEDs on and off. This would be a game changer for many. That being said, the Unifi Pro Max is an interesting Switch, PoE++ is definitely important for upcoming access points with Wi-Fi 7 support.

    Is there a way to make the LEDs solid? The constant fade pattern is very distracting. It looks like a very nice diagnostic tool for home labbers, but not in a professional environment. A suggestion might be to have a momentary push button or switch LCD selection that you can turn the LEDs on/off for diagnostics. If Ubiquiti could take this concept of identification by port using the old Ethernet LEDs, it would be a more accepted and not require a completely different/custom Ethernet port.
    Example: Unifi Controller: diagnostic mode switch on- ports untagged VLAN 100 light up and all other LEDs turn off.

    • @FHTheron
      @FHTheron 11 місяців тому +2

      Exactly this. After I got over the flashy keyboard animations and realised this is far more useful than keyboard backlight RGB with solid keycaps, I started to wonder why I don’t feel this way about the many blinking LEDs on a normal switch.
      Drop the animations and fading, reference the old two-tone LEDs as “limited usefulness” and this suddenly seems more professional.
      They have that touch screen, it should be used as a trigger for EtherLighting by default. But, next time, put in a presence sensor. Having these on when nobody is around is silly. Oh wait, those old LEDs are on all the time already.

  • @laberet
    @laberet 8 місяців тому +1

    No link light or blinking for activity? REALY? RGB is cute but I rather the LED be able to used for those functions... I need one of these for the PoE++ and 2.5GB ports but honestly rethinking and will look at other options after seeing this

    Everyone sh1tting on this but in many corporate and enterprise setups this is actually very useful and valuable. Easily see at a glance what port is is on what vlan / department / company even. I have supported many semi complex setups with many vlans where multiple companies and each company has a few vlans. Data, voice, separate depts etc. This would be extremely useful. Rather than having to potentially trace a cable, or consult an excel sheet, or login to the device config.

    As much as this is cool, I think Unifi is loosing it's way, creating solutions to problems no one asked. The Cable Modem for example. Many ISPs, in the UK and from what I understand in the US as well, lock you into using their equipment regardless if their router is just in modem mode/bridge mode, and the only ISPs that the Cable Modem will work with, are ISPs that are chillax about 3rd party routers taking over completely, many aren't due to logistical reasons. And now RGB switches... Network Engineers and Home Labbers are not going to be interested in a new product line for just some pretty lights in the ports, that are limited to the restricted use cases that Unifi has given. I would be more interested in having a port light up red if there's an error or something. Loss of connection, loss of PoE etc. That's more useful than having the ports light up in VLAN colours, when labels, colour coded patch cables and/or colour coded keystones, are already in place, and I can use the best equipment that Nature/God has given me, my eyes. While having the app is useful on occasion, if things are labelled in an organized manner, the lights are a bit redundant, and not worth a new product line. And yes, I am going to quibble over some ports being 2.5 GbE and the rest being GbE. There's a clear choice there, only need GbE, Pro Line. More, Enterprise Line. This halfway house is just another waste product, that the time and effort wasted over it would have been better served in areas where customers, and fans of Unifi equipment have been wanting for years. Etherlighting should've been reserved for the next generation/refresh of all switch product lines.

    • @MactelecomNetworks
      @MactelecomNetworks  11 місяців тому +1

      So I think the cable modem is geared towards the USA and not other parts of the world. The cable companies have to approve the use of third party. You either love or hate the rgb thats one thing these youtube comments have shown me
      Me I personally love them. When I have a tech onsite who need to find a port its going to be much easier to flash it. Need a new VoIP port look at all the red ones and pick one that is free.
      Even if you don't like the rgb just don't use it . The switch still has the following:
      🛜 8 1Gb poe+ ports
      🛜 8 1Gb PoE++ ports
      🛜 8 2.5Gb PoE ++ ports
      🛜 2 10Gb SFP+ ports

    • @Cyberbyte_010
      @Cyberbyte_010 11 місяців тому

      @@MactelecomNetworks I think your missing the point. Ubiquiti seems to be chasing 'What looks good' over 'What's useful' in a Network Engineer job. Yes, the pretty lights can be used in an helpful manner. But, if as you say don't like it, don't use the RGB, they've ripped out a valid function of LED activity, or rather, merged into the light show. A quick informative glance to see if the connection is on and PoE is working. So they've chosen to spend time and money, on a new product line, that sacrifices functionality, for S appeal. Very Apple minded. If your building a gaming PC with all the trimmings, great. But a device that is more business than pleasure, RGB lights are not a priority. It certainly doesn't deserve a whole new product line. I'm not against RGB, but again, does it really deserve a new product line for it, or could it be held off for the next gen refresh of all the switches in all product lines?
      Moving away from the RGB, as I have said before and you mentioned, the switch has, 8 1Gb PoE+ ports, 8 1Gb PoE++ ports. 8 2.5Gb PoE ++ ports, 2 10Gb SFP+ ports, but I would still buy either the pro (1gb) or enterprise line(2.5gb), as the mismatch of port speeds would require a reworking cables and keystones to match to make sure it's not a mess of cables. When you know the switch in your hands is full 1/2.5/10gb speeds, you can just swap it in, job done. This half way house on a new product that doesn't need to exist, shows a clear lack of focus on the part of Ubiquiti. They need to focus on improving on the existing issues, rather than churning out one product after another.
