Clipless pedals are a game changer for climbing with one gear. I’ll never forget cranking up a climb with flats, slipping a foot and absolutely destroying my shin on pedal pins
I ride a 29"er hardtail single speed named Ultron. Now that I'm back in NW Washington for construction season, I'm going to plan my riding in BC around the VAncouver Canadians baseball schedule this year of 2024. Looking forward to riding the North Shore, The Fraser Valley, and Squamish. Just try to become the best all-around rider I can be on my single speed riding some of the most challenging terrain in the world.
Going down on a SS bike is great. The lighter rear end due to the missing cassette/derailleur floats over stuff better which I like. You can really pedal once you are going faster, but you can pump the bike to accelerate a bit and of course staying off the brakes helps so if you do encounter a small uphill you've got lots of momentum to coast up it. Enjoy SS life!
The Tyaughton is SUPER capable, and far more capable at the hands of a more experienced rider than me. To keep things simple, I run 20 PSI front and back, all the time. I also have a tire insert for the back wheel.
Single speed isnt that bad, especially on dh bikes My riding buddy has a singlespeed kit on his DH bike and he doesnt suffer at all, in fact, he doesnt have to worry about changing gears all the time, so he has more time to focus on the line and other stuff

I still do that, but I’m starting flats for now 😅😂
Sorry I missed the ride! Looks like Ned’s is a lot of fun! Getting to Ned’s is not an easy feat on the SS - Well done 🎉 !
Thanks! It’s so epic that you make the trip! Looking forward to our next ride!
Subscribed, greetings from the UK 👍🏼🍻🇬🇧
Thank you! 🙏

Nice! That sounds like an awesome riding plan 🙌

Thanks for the tips! I’m really enjoying it so far!
That rock roll from the side does not look that bad. Just the over the top look, makes it appear to be worse. You rode up on a single speed, epic!
It wasn’t pretty, but I made it 😅
Excited for this journey! Most of my climbing PR’s are on my ridgid singlespeed.
Whoa, that’s so awesome! 🙌
Off road ? That's crazzyyyy
I'm glad to know the Knolly Tyaughton is a fully capable bike!
What psi did you use for trail?
