- 'dhartimata' was produced in 1939 by New Theaters Calcutta starring.Saigal,Uma Shasi,Nemo,k.c.dey. Music direction was by Pankaj Mullick & the movie was directed by Nitin Bose who is credited for introducing Play back singing in Indian Cinema. It was a story on co operative farming. In those days play back singing was in its infancy & the stars had to sing & act at the same time but when you listen to the beautiful music one realises what a musical genius was Pankaj Mullick the way he blends piano, flute guitar, tabla & many more. without losing the sweetness & melody of the song. k.c.dey sings this song in the movie but Pankaj sings in the record disc because in those days singers-actors were under contracts e.g. saigal was with Hindustan Records,Pankaj was with Columbia, kanan was wih Megaphone co. & k.c.dey was wih HMV.
I am a diehard fan of Pankaj mallik's songs.Old is gold.
I too.
Ek adbhut anubhuti... Satyendra Dogra
The Best Song of all time : excellent quality recording : Pankaj Mullick K C Dey Uma Shashi K L Saigal : Hats Off !!!
If u have observed minutely, the u will find that there is no interluding musical piece between stanzas. As mullick's stanza is about to end, uma shashi's voice can be heard & so that of saigal saab's. This miracle can b heard only in one song, i.e. naachere gori dingo' from laajawab.
After almost 84 years the appeal remains same! This song will never become old!
What a wonderful song. Duniya rang rangeli. It's 100 perceny buautiful Lyrics. Is duniya me har cheez ko daam chukana Partha hai. Old is gold.music super
kitna adbhut Sur hai ,Mahan gayak k l saigal sahab uma Shashi ji ,ajj ka koi bhi singer inke samane dhul aur mitti hai. lacks of salutes to k l saigal sahab .
VO DIN KAISE ACHHE RAHE HONGE, JAHA ITNA ACHHA SANGEET SUN KAR MAN KO SHANTI MILTA HOGA, LAJAWAB, MAZA AA GAYA, MERE BACHHE KEHTE HAI YE KYA RONA SUNTE REHTE HO?
MERI AGE 44 saal hai mujhe bachpan se purane gane pasand hai vo din mujhe bahut yaad aate hai

Encaptivating music and singing. Kottee kottee pranam to the music maestros of this song
What a lyrics by the great Pandit Sudharshan Sharma ji!
An evergreen with music flowing and singers singing without the usual pause .Three singers and a lyric so evocative ... [ I have been listening since years ] I feel no one would dare repeat a composition like this ! ] I am an old doctor now and this is the best " tranquilliser ever ! Surendra MBBS Agra 1967 ]Thanks for allowing me to hazard a comment !
As a couple of my friends would say, I agree with you 101% ! Old gems like this were immensely sweet despite, or perhaps because of , their simpler orchestral support. Splendid upload by Mr. Vahanvaty.
This is a song that can lift drooping spirits and give inspiration to anyone wondering how life is going to be at any stage. From the moment I heard it in 1938 in the movie Dharti Mata, it has remained fresh in my memory and I try to listen to it as often as I can. The fusion of the three different singers, with their own styles and variations in pitch and raaga is so aesthetically done and so melodiously blended that one simply gets carried away. The lyrics lend considerable weight to a tuneful melody and the overall effect is one of an extremely "Feel Good" factor. Surely, one of Pankaj Mallik's greatest creations.
Wonderful & apt description of this song straight from the heaven
Soocha nahee jaata wo kaisaa zamaana hoga.....jab ye sab banaya jaa raha thaa....agar time travell hota to sabsay pehlay is song kee recording k day me pahunch jaata

Old is gold. Such beautiful gems are mesmerising and take us to the past and leave long lasting effects on minds.
Outstanding composition and never again will we hear the trio's dulcet voice strung together in a haunting melody full of meaning !!!
Wonderful
Fluid change of singers and beautiful music. Thanks
Very nostalgic. I remember live performance by none less than The God of Music by Dada Pankaj Mallick, in the hall of Khar High school, Mumbai circa 1958. He sang the full song by himself with endless "once more" chants from the audience. I remember Dada extolling the audience to sing with him. What an heavenly experience. It was साक्षात्कार of the divine. Pankaj da, you will always be in our hearts.
You were extremely lucky to watch the music maestro in person

Good music, good lyrics & great singers. My nanaji used to sing this song.He was great fan of Pankaj.Mallik
My most favourite song. Deep meaning and very melodious voice. It's tragic that UMA DEVI discontinued singing and took to comedy role
Absolutely unbelievable that such a wonderful syncronous recording, with so many singers, was done in 1938 [released in 1939] when there was no tape recorder for retake nor editing .. Creativity at the highest level, indeed! .. And what a melody!! ... My full 'Pranam' to that great music director, cum singer, Pankaj Mallick for creating this wonderful song which one wants to listen, and appreciate, today [in 2013] even after 75 years... This single fact speaks for the greatness of those people and their creation..
I completely agree with your words!
samir dalwai Thanks for the appreciation of my message .. Seeing your views as late as today
P Vijay - The sound engineer for this song was Mukul Bose, brother of the director of this film Nitin Bose. Mukul Bose was considered a genius in his field and it was he along with brother Nitin Bose who introduced the technique of playback music in films - a fact which is not know to most. Mukul Bose was probably one of the few people whose feet Lata Mangeshkar actually used to touch to pay her respect.
Very beautiful song 👌 lyrics 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 kl Sahgal Saheb 🙏🙏, Pankaj malik saab 🙏🙏🙏🙏

28-6-2021 Monday. Sir very thanks for presentation of this golden voice all are. Very. Very stay in my heart because I will hear this sweet voice ever day
Thanks to all of you
This is the music that is worth listening to compared to most of the music of modern Bollywood, which sadly has become a cheap imitation of Western music. The combination of Pankaj Mullick, K.L. Saigal, and Uma Shashi is matchless in producing immortal music!!!
Kc dey 🙏🙏🙏🙏,uma kashi,🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏, kl Sahgal Saheb 🙏🙏🙏🙏
