    Poor Sebastian. You can feel his frustration for his whole storyline. I hated his uncle for saying there is absolutely NOTHING you can do. He didn't try to understand or tell Sebastian he should give up Dark Magic but not giving up on helping Anne. He was taking away hope with every word he said.

      I think people give Sebastian a little too much slack if I’m honest. I understand why he does what he feels he needs to do, but I can’t agree that Sebastian does not take accountability for what he’s done. What’s worst is he blames others for the measures he takes, you don’t kill someone and then blame them for killing them. And we have to remember Sebastian’s need to gain power to save his sister inevitably pushed her away and still refuses to see that.

    Interesting. What Isidora did is the opposite of what dementor always do to people, but the destination is not different. Both suffering and happiness are part of someone soul. Took away their emotion, although it was the pain, is not different form killing them slowly.

    • @MCshadr217
      @MCshadr217 Рік тому +47

      I will say there is one difference: The dementors actually feed off that happiness, and eventually their soul, leaving the body nothing more then an empty shell.
      Whereas with Isidora, he couldn't exactly feed on it, and if left uncontained, could be problematic.
      But in saying that, I didn't actually notice the similarities to begin with, so good spot.

      This is just another case of the mentor not explaining as much as they should while warning the pupil to not do this... If the jedi explained properly to anakin he would not have fallen to the darkside. If they had explained properly the reason not to take the grail from the tomb it would not have been swallowed by the earth...

      @harutothefriendlyodst7639 Рік тому +7

      @azurie580 right, because telling someone "a is bad" without properly explaining the consequence is the right thing to do, instead of a fair warning you just planted curiosity in someone, always expect someone to be curious about the "a is bad" thing and EXPLAIN perfectly what exactly will happen if they fuck up badly. Anakin wasn't evil, he was an emotional mess that grew up with people that didn't bother to understand his situation.
      The world isn't just divided into good and evil, Jedi and Sith, Death Eaters and Aurors, expecting it to be Black and White is entirely stupid.

    • @cy-one
      @cy-one Рік тому +4

      I mean, the mentors and their trials are rather BS to be honest.
      If you want to make sure that "very powerful magic" doesn't get into the wrong hands, you should test the _character_ and _moral integrity_ of a person.
      However, all the trials actually test for is
      - (optionally) person wants power (by being motivated enough to continue despite it being very dangerous due to the guardians)
      - person can think somewhat logically (puzzles)
      - person can destroy whatever is in their way (guardians, more guardians, proverbial death, big beast).
      Those are sht trials :D

    I always find it hilarious when the goblins and enemy wizards act so outraged and horrified when you use the Unforgiveable Curses on them. One encounter that made me burst out laughing was when a combatant said I had a "reputation" for using Dark Magic. Like, so you're fine with trying to shank me to death, set me on fire, in the animagus' case claw me to death, etc. The goblins seem pretty fine with killing. Isidora, taking away her father's pain, made man empty. It didn't just take away his pain. It took away all the emotion. He’s so focused on curing his sister I feel he did not take into account his sister’s wishes and what she wants for herself and that was eerily similar to Isidora, who was trying so hard to save her father despite the fact that the one who had the right to decide to save himself was her father.

    I really don’t like these flashbacks. They fail to clarify why Isadora is wrong, or why the other professors have a problem. I get the later problems (using the power on people without permission, draining her father of all emotion, using the power on students), but the root issue was never addressed.
    They needed a scene, after she takes her fathers pain, where they all sit in a room and discuss what happened. I want to hear the differing perspectives and reasons for why some may be hesitant or supportive of Isadora’s actions. Then we can have following scenes where Isadora goes too far and the professor(s) that previously supported her now switch sides.
    But we don’t get that. Instead Isadora is made out to be wrong from the start. It was because of this lack of depth that I chose to use the power. The Professors were acting like paranoid nay-sayers, and even though Isadora crossed the line in a few areas, she didn’t come off as totally unreasonable.

      I think most people are really looking at this from the kids' point of view, instead of the adult one. Yes, Solomon was stern, even harsh, but you can see clearly that he was trying to both protect his niece and Sebastian from dark magic. He made the mistake of not reaching out better to Sebastian, but he did what he could to discipline him in his view, from the clear off limits magic that Sebastian obsession was getting him into. Even Ominus, who has horrible relatives, knew better than anyone that Sebastian's good intentions but lack of accountability was gonna end badly.

    Games have already alerted us, consciously or unconsciously, in some places,
    For example, the kind and friendly professors at Hogwarts can only teach the students as ordinary teachers, while Professor Black, who has a character like a rascal and is feared by all the students and teachers, can become headmaster and lead the school and ban Quidditch, which is really a good guy being bullied.
    And in retrospect, even though the guardians acted in self-defense, the four guardians did not hesitate to kill the woman with avdcadavor. No one really said a word about it. And then it's illegal for the wizarding community to teach unforgivable curses to ordinary people, so if you use them, you send them to Azkaban, fine.

    The game is gorgeous but the story lines are just mediocre and filled with plotholes. I still don't understand, what is it that Isidora is taking away from people? Is it pain? Is it the ability to feel? Is it their soul? And why is it a kind of magic? Does it mean souls are magic? If so they can't be inherently bad... so why is this power treated like a bad thing? What is it that makes it bad? I mean, they use it to fight, but it's never said that you can only harm with it, it's just so vague. Also, Isidora looked misled but not stupid, they could simply show her how hollowed her father end up being to probably convince her that such lives she was imposing on her "saved ones" were not worth living anyway. But instead, all the reasoning is taken away and even the keepers are faster with their wands than with their words.
    And don't get me start on the Sallow family, Sebastian looked like the most sane out of the bunch: the uncle openly disliked him and the only family he had left after his parents died, was his twin sister who also got almost killed. It's only natural he grabbed on to the only loving person he felt he had in the world and did everything he could for her, the fact that they're also twins only amplified the feelings. In conclusion Anne was idiotic in calling Solomon and Solomon... well, he had it coming.

      She thought that she was taking the pain away, but it turns out she was taking all emotions away until all that was left of that human was just a shell. BOTH pain and positive emotions must co-exist to make humans whole, alive... and we shouldn't manipulate that. At least that was my understanding of this storyline.

      @@proudream ye, i get that this was the point they were trying to make... but it still felt SO inconsistent. Also, according to that logic, it shouldn't be coherent to ban Dark Arts all together and yet they somehow do so, like "Light and shadow must coexist, but also Dark Arts are bad and you shouldn't use them because shadows are bad... unless you have to stop a bad guy, in that case in doesn't count, so they're fine."

      @@actaemazantor9558 A few things to note here. Bakar used Avada Kedavra when the curse had not been outlawed yet (the flashback took place around the late 1400s - early 1500s, while the Unforgivable Curses were deemed Unforgivable in 1717), so no, it's not exactly "unless you have to stop a bad guy, in that case it doesn't count."
      Second, when it comes to comparing ancient magic and Dark Arts against normal magic, it is necessary to take into account the fact that both ancient magic and Dark Arts curses are unblockable nukes. While any magic can be used with malice, and the issue falls mostly onto the users, rather than the magic itself, it is quite a huge hassle to prevent malicious users of ancient magic and Dark Arts. So rather than risking it, it might have been a better idea to just keep those curses hidden, or banned entirely. This may also be part of the reason why the Unforgivable Curses were deemed Unforgivable in the first place.

      In Rookwood's memory where we see Isidora remove her father's pain he thanked her. But in San's memory he's a shell. We don't know how he got like that. Is that somehow a side affect or did Isadora use her ability multiple times? Or maybe thought just taking his pain wasn't enough. We're given only the keeper's point of view.
      It's like modifying/removing someone's memories. In this case, she removed their emotions.
      I think that our character might be able to remove the pain conflicted from the curse if we focused soley on just "that" pain and studied enough.
