Kinison was banned from NBC after his 3rd SNL appearance. He went against the directions of the censorship crew and talked about drugs and religion on live TV which caused NBC to ban him. Immediately after being banned, NBC received countless letters from their viewers demanding Sam to come back. Lorne finally swallowed his pride and called Sam and had him come back with Dana Carvey introducing the 4th appearance(this video). RIP Sam, you are my favorite comedian and wish you were still here.
Agree, tho To be clear if NBC ever bans a guest Lorne falls into SNL and not NBC esp then and that time. Lorne most likely fought fully for every and all times Sam was on, sadly the NBC corporate execs would have been the ones to force the ban. This episode was so great, all of Kinison’s appearances on the show were great but the mid late 80s ones as this were so bold!
I remember this...Kinison was the host of this episode.
Over 30 years later and I still remember all of those things. I used to have a Sam Kinison poster on my wall back in college. Ah ahhhhhh!!!

People may not know or have forgotten, Sam Kinison was a Pentecostal preacher before he became a comedian.
Yes...lol. I saw Sam in a candid interview once and he said that he never lost his faith in God, he just lost his faith in organized religion. After he got a divorce it was very difficult for him to find another job in ministry so he decided to try comedy instead.
@@mazatano ... I too never lost my faith in God, but I can't remember the last time I went to church. As much as I tried to stay in organized religion, the reasons for leaving just kept piling up.

Don't wax nostalgic like every generation does. It was okay...sometimes.
There were just as many bad sketches during the whole history of SNL (probably more) then there were good. I guarantee you this episode had its share of duds.
I began watchin' SNL in 2007 and then I went back and forth.
For sure there were bad sketches before 1994 and there is a lot of great sketches after 1994 but, hear me now and believe me later, if you make comparisons between seasons, the 19th season (1993/1994) was the last GREAT one of SNL, then it went up and down, up and down but it never reached the greatness of those first 19 years.

Wow, what a trip~ I only just saw SNL's Church Lady skits for the first time last week. I assumed they were pretty recently filmed, like maybe five years ago. Then when I saw the title to this one, I wondered why a recent show would mention Mr. Kinison, then, BAM, Sam's in the shot… turns out these skits are over twenty years old. I'd never have thought it just to watch them. They seem wholly current. Then that second when Sam Kinison was seemingly brought back to life was just magical.
Now whom, would have wanted you to believe, that these were recent? Hmm? Perhaps, .....🤣🤣🤣😛

Sam Kinisen got sober, was kill by a drunk driver, argued w/ GOD before he died..
There were less boundaries then. If you watch the Richard Pryor show he did sketches with Marilyn Chambers another legendary 1970s porn actress. There’s him, Sandra Bernhardt, and Robin Williams, the mind boggles at what was going on off camera.
Fourteen people didn't think it was special.

In 2016, I was at a convention featuring a mix of B-horror stars, as well as the likes of Leslie Easterbrook, Gary Graham, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict (Battlestar Galactica), etc., Seka was also there. Her panel was right before the Battlestar Galactica Q&A. It doesn't get any better than that..😝

Obviously, not much of a sense of humor. There are actually different kinds of humor, such as the classics(Don Rickles, Milton Berle, etc.) from this genre (Eddie Murphy, Sam Kinkson, Gilda Radner, etc) and the new generation(Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy, Jeff Dunham) they all cross lines every one of them. Politically correct humor sucks, as today’s comedian can’t say their jokes for fear of being cancelled. So, back off. The man had immense talent and that wasn’t his actual personality. Public/private.

I’m kind of a smart ass myself, and just because I’m a little older doesn’t mean I don’t have a life. I have a wife, kids, grandkids, I golf, fish, boat, referee high school and small college football, and lay back only in the winter, as Ohio is cold.
