This first incarnation of Kinison had 30 minutes that was just unstoppable, and he knew it. One of the best comedy spots in history. This conflagration of the early material and his personality was dynamite.

A unique man and comedian, total character. He cracks me up quite a bit. The definition of unafraid and willing to proclaim his thoughts to challenge individual thinking. A yeller but it’s actually funny, Rogan yells too but he doesn’t have the inflection of absurdity but with the relatability that makes Sam’s a good listen.

Rogan has nothing to do with Kinison: Kinison used his priest experience to deliver his stand up comedy in an unique way, unlike any other. There's method in his madness.

What's particularly impressive is how he had total control of the room instantly. He showed complete confidence, with no hint of fear given that this was his network TV debut. I don't know that I could have tolerated decades of the yelling thing, but while he was in his prime, he was amazing.

What amazing to me about all these Letterman clips that are now coming out is how much more committed the show was to being funny for its own sake compared to the stuff that is similar in format that’s on tv today. And with a really high success rate along with some fun failures. Not seeing many fun failures these days. Not tolerated, perhaps.

Letterman aired the presentation only in 2009, almost two decades later and as much as I love Letterman, he was wrong in this.
