The excitement I feel when I hear "Next time on Monster Hunter Ecology" is similar to how I felt when I first watched Walking With Dinosaurs when I was younger
I initiated as a Hunter in MH: Tri. I saw the game in a VG magazine that I used to buy back in the day. It featured the Lagiacrus armor (my current pp) and Lagiacrus and it was loved at first sight. I needed to play the game. To this day Lagiacrus is still my favorite monster and monster hunter my favorite franchise.
I'd love to see underwater hunting come back in Wilds, though to be honest I'm scared of how they would implement it. I'll be the first to admit I never played (3? The one with underwater hunting originally. I started with 4U) so as much as underwater hunting seems really cool, I'm not sure how to actually implement it.
@@airbots4789 To be fair, MHtri's underwater combat gave a bad reputation to the concept because of it's jankyness, but MHtriU's underwater was really quite good and many remember it fondly, there's not much to reinvent
@@IndominusRex-wc1ey Most likely, not only because Scarlet forest has a coastal area. Lagia having electricity based power would whop Uth Duna who relied on slime and water.
The monster that make the most sense for Lagiacrus to fight against would be (no confirmed just what I think should be) Ludroth, both normal and Royal, being a prey item, Plesioth being both prey and a comptetor for the same food source, Uth Duna as a competetor, the Raths when out of the water and maybe some of the weaker brutes, like Anjanath
If Capcom is to make him come back in Wilds, I hope there will exclusively be the Ivory one. Normal Lagiacrus without underwater combat doesn't feel right
@zanderstick The thing is that in a World demo or alpha build they showed blue Lagiacrus, so I guess they wouldn't bother making a new model. But having Ivory shoot his electric boogaloo at you from Uth Duna's underwater zone would go pretty hard
Thank you for that look into Lagiacrus, paying my favorite Monster the repect he deserves. I had a good chuckle when you got to the GU head scratcher of how Lagiacrus can suddenly use his shockers on land. And thank you for going into Abyssal Lagiacrus being really just a variant wrongly classified as the Rare Species.
17:00 I'd equate that to be similar to saltwater crocodiles. Wide ranging and great travelers, adaptable and nomadic when they lack a territory. Regular instances of gene exchange from these traveling individuals means populations remain relatively similar to each other in appearance.
Lagiacrus' body plan reminds me of real-world sauropterygians like Nothosaurus, even the theory of how its legs could soon evolve to become flippers is reminiscent of plesiosaur evolution.
Abyssal lightning attacks are beautifully haunting, like a version of thunder element becoming dragon element with the intense blue and black sparks and all of them cover way more space of effective damage than the lesser counterparts
1: LET’S GOOOOOOOO! MONSTER ECOLOGY IS BACK! 2: I’m certain that you must be VERY excited for MH:Wilds especially on the premise that a previously thought extinct species of monster is seemingly back.
28:37 I like to believe the hunter who stabbed the abyssal lagaiacrus is josh from ragegamingvideos since he basically is a trainer who trains cotton who is basically a rookie hunter that and also it should be him because memes
After seeing how the last 2 seasons went and seeing the 1st half episode of this season, I can only imagine how long it will take for it to be complete, but I am confident that this will be just as great and lore filled like the last 2
Yaaaaasssss. Im bummed i am so late. I listen to ya content every evening to go to bed but also every morning to wake back up haha 😅 glad theres a fellow fan creating this nice world immersion for the rest of us 🎉
This is my favourite monster. I have like 1400~ hours in Tri, and it was my intro to the series. Its an incredible pseudo-boss, and something I farmed for its full armour as my like "look how cool I am" set. One of the best flagships IMO.
Abyssal Lagi lokks so badass, the dark scales broken up by the blue glow beneath them and its shellshockers, just immaculate. Though it is sad that we might not see him again in the forseeable future because water combat was mostly hated
The Lord of the Seas is here. Here's hope that we'll see him in Wilds. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the stuff covered here like the raptors, bears and the brutes like Deviljho and Barroth.
Having never played Tri, learning about the Lagiacrus was an eye-opening discovery...and it made me understand why so many fans hold it in high regard (and hope for his return) That said, that poem in the Abyssal section....makes him sound like sea devil (though not hard to see why once you see him). I'm looking forward to the next installment when you release the wyvern hounds!
I am biased since Tri was my first MH but i still thing that Tri did it best in terms of lore and going with the "coexistence with nature"-Theme. Lagaicrus was such a awesome monster and Ceadeus was probably the best lore reason for a final boss in MH. Just an old Emperor of the Sea in pain about his missgrown body and u help releasing him from that pain without killing him. Its beautiful.
I wonder what monster is next probably zinogre Also I like you said in needs to breathe air ONLY every 12 hours And what a twist, what everyone who thought was a rare species is actually a variant
I have a better theory on why Abyssal Lagiacrus is a rare species: It's in the name, "Abyssal". I'm willing to believe that there is a subspecies of Lagiacrus that is fully aquatic, but they usually live in ocean depths so deep, observing and documenting them is near impossible.
I wish they bring back my favorite monster in the series. I still remember the Double Lagiacrus battle in the underwater arena on tri, in order to get the Rising Soul long sword.
On the topic of quartz in Ivory Lagi's shell, I'm pretty sure quartz is a piezoelectric material, meaning it produces a voltage in response to mechanical stress and vice versa. So maybe that has something to do with Ivory being able to use its lightning abilities on land.
Favorite leviathan let's freakin' go! Lagiacrus is basically the Monster Hunter World's version of a crocodile or alligator, my favorite modern animals. The fact that Abyssal's color scheme reminds of Godzilla is a huge plus in my book.
17:55 I mean, it stands to reason; if it can use its shell shockers in fresh water, it can probably use it on land, right? It's not the water itself that conducts electricity so well, it's all the minerals and other stuff that does it?
Damn... These videos just make me want an Animal Survival game based in the Monster Hunter setting, like The Isle or Beasts of Bermuda. I'd 1000% love to play as Lagiacrus. I got my start in the 3rd Gen, so its got a special place in my heart alongside the swimming mechanics. Some monsters would be absolutely busted, of course, but... Some balancing for the sake of gameplay is always an option.
Maybe to go with this, you could finish your monster phylogeny series. Though maybe for the length, you'd have to put the Leviathans with something like the neopterans. Since there's only 5, though 2 are possibly on the way, species of note. And theres a few neopterans that are pretty notable.
A part of me wonders if the Lagiacrus who can use their shell shockers on land, are in an intermarry stage between the usual Lagiacrus and Ivory lagiacrus.
Can you please make ecology videos like these on god eater's aragami? I know they aren't supposed to be part of the natural order and are much more fantastical than anything from monhun, but they would be a pretty interesting topic to discuss, in my opinion.

Negatively charged atoms? Is it supposed to be negatiely charged ions? I could be wrong here but I've never heard charged atoms used in this context before
I just realized this... And I'm upset it took me this long. But if land mobsters can get as large as Zora, then in the open ocean, how large can Leviathans get....
Lovely, one of my favorites Gotta ask though - I know you 'make up' the scientific names of monsters, but why do you always list 'subspecies' as separate species? In this case you refer to base lagi as Lagiacrus mogialis and Ivory as Lagiacrus eburnalis. In this case Lagiacrus is their genus, not species name (following real taxonomic rules). For future ecology episodes, if you ever mention the whole "fake Subspecies" thing again, maybe you can put an additional spin on it.
